About Happy Hollow Park & Zoo (HHPZ): This is a 16-acre amusement park and Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA) accredited zoo located in San José, California. HHPZ is open year-round catering to families with children. We are now accepting applications for seasonal, part-time Recreation Aide I positions to work in our Fall Sports Program.

DEFINITION

The Recreation Aide I is the entry level class and is responsible for performing less complex assignments within an established procedural framework where there are minimal consequences of error. This classification is distinguished from the next higher classification of Recreation Aide II by the performance of more routine, repetitive and less complex assignments.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED

Receives supervision from administrative and/or management staff. Incumbents of this class do not routinely exercise supervision but those at the higher levels may be asked to supervise from time to time but not on a consistent basis.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Include but are not limited to the following)

• Assist with the following: set-up and tear down of program equipment, preparation of playing fields and routine facility maintenance.

Environmental Programs Department

The Environmental Programs Group is responsible for environmental review of VTA’s capital projects, VTA’s Sustainability Program, and VTA’s Stormwater Management Program.  Environmental review includes preparation of federal and state environmental documents; compliance with environmental laws and regulations; acquisition of regulatory agency permits; management of mitigation plans and programs; and coordination on a wide range of environmental topics.  VTA’s Sustainability Program is responsible for reducing the consumption of natural resources and the generation of greenhouse gases in the provision of transportation services through utility management, transportation electrification, climate action planning, waste reduction, and education. VTA’s Stormwater Management Program is responsible for complying with the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit known as MS4. Distinguishing Characteristics
Environmental Planner II: 
This is the journey level in the Environmental Planner class series. Positions at his level are expected to be conversant with relevant environmental laws, regulations, and guidelines in order to achieve compliance of transportation projects. Incumbents conduct environmental analysis of projects in concert with other staff and consultants and may have responsibility for management of the environmental phase of minor projects or for specific portions of larger projects. This classification reviews environmental documents and development applications received from cities/regional agencies for project impact on the transportation system and/or facilities.

Environmental Planner III: 
This is the advanced journey level in the Environmental Planning series. Positions at this level work independently on the largest and most complex projects directing, reviewing, and coordinating the work of assigned project staff, consultants, and representatives of other public agencies in multi-disciplinary teams. Incumbents conduct environmental analyses of transportation projects and programs with minimal supervision and are expected to be conversant in and achieve compliance with relevant environmental laws, regulations, and guidelines.

Environmental Planner II:

• Reviews development proposals received from cities/regional agencies and coordinates with various VTA divisions to prepare official VTA recommendations on development conditions and mitigation measures for said proposals;
• Tracks compliance with permit requirements or other regulatory agency conditions for projects;
• Plans, coordinates, reviews, directs, and oversees the work of multi-disciplinary professional and technical staff and/or consultants conducting complex and comprehensive environmental studies;

Source Test Section

The Source Test Section performs source emission tests at regulated facilities for compliance determination, emission factor development, and information gathering. Facilities that are commonly tested include petroleum refineries, power plants, manufacturing facilities, wastewater treatment plants, landfills, and gasoline dispensing facilities. The section also provides regulatory oversight for facility continuous emission monitoring system (CEMS) operation, facility contracted source testing, and special testing or measurement projects. This role will be tasked with supervision of the section’s air quality engineering staff and performance of highly complex and specialized program assignments. DEFINITION

Under general supervision, provide recreational and educational instruction and activities, social development, guidance and care for preschool and elementary age children by leading and assisting in the selection and coordination of a variety of activities and curriculum at a childcare site.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Child Care Lead Teacher is the lead teacher in the classroom.  Child Care Lead Teachers may also be asked to temporarily oversee a school site when a Site Coordinator is offsite.  If a situation arises where a Site Supervisor is unavailable for an extended period of time a Child Care Lead Teacher with a Site Supervisor Permit will be asked to act as a temporary Site Supervisor.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:

General supervision is provided by the Child Care Site Coordinator. Child Care Lead Teacher  supervises the classrooms to which they are assigned, including Child Care Aides, Associate Teachers, Teachers, and Full-time Teachers that are assigned to their programs.

• Assist in the development of a diversified program of recreational games, sports, arts, crafts, and other activities for elementary school children.

 Under general supervision, the Courier makes pickup and delivery of District inter-office mail, supplies, and equipment in accordance with District policies and procedures.

• Operate a District vehicle to pick up and deliver items from all District facilities on a daily basis
• Pick up the daily deposit from community centers and ensure its safe delivery to accounting
• Move transportable equipment among district locations as requested

• Organize supplies and tidy copy room storage cabinets and workspaces

Examination:
Candidate selection will be based on competitive examinations. Test content will be related to the job. A driver license will be requested for identification and admission to the testing area. • Written Test/Practical Exercise:  A written test and a practical exercise may be used, in addition to the appraisal interview.

This position performs a variety of work in the monitoring of county, state and federal detainees and maintains the security and safety of inmates and staff.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

• Performs booking procedures, including receiving, booking and assigning prisoners to cells; performing body searches; fingerprinting, and photographing prisoners, etc.
• Maintains custody of prisoners’ private property.
• Maintains the safe and orderly operation of the County jail facility; monitors security cameras and door warning lights; screens and monitors visitors. Inspects all of inmates’ incoming and outgoing mail and telegrams.

THE POSITION 

The City of South San Francisco seeks customer service-oriented individuals to join the Community Resource Team at the new Library | Parks and Recreation Center. This position is shared between the Library Department and Parks and Recreation Department and works under the direction of the Community Resource Analyst. The Community Resource Clerk will typically be stationed at the lobby desks on the first and second floors of the new Library | Parks and Recreation Center at 901 Civic Campus Way in South San Francisco, however, may temporarily be assigned to other sites, or to represent the departments at special events. This position will provide a welcoming presence by greeting members of the public and responding to visitor inquiries to assist with wayfinding in the facility and sharing information about activities in the building as well as city and other local community resources.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal Community Resource Clerk possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills and will be comfortable working in a diverse community setting, providing customer service to community members of various ages, ethnicities, and abilities.  Candidates with bilingual skills are strongly encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate can work independently as well as with a team, and can make quick, quality, and educated decisions, taking a proactive approach to deal with customer service issues. Skill in using a personal computer and associated applications is required. The ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, is highly desirable. 
 

TYPICAL DUTIES:

• Assists in implementing the day-to-day operations at the Library | Parks and Recreation Center.
• Helps oversee use of the facility, ensuring appropriate security is maintained, policies and procedures are followed; appropriate equipment and materials are available, and building is operating efficiently.
• Registers participants in programs and assists patrons with Library or Parks and Recreation account inquiries.
• Performs typical service desk duties including but not limited to patron registration and account management, checking in/out materials, utilization of self-check equipment, assisting patrons with fines and fees, payments and placing reserves, and answering patron questions and requests.
• Maintain the posting of current promotional materials, such as flyers, brochures, guides, and other printed materials.
• Assists in coordinating the scheduling of classes, activities, meetings, events, and rentals in the facility.
• Assists patrons in using and locating library materials and equipment; explains library services, rules, and procedures.
• Works cooperatively with staff, parents, children, and other public and private sector employees and volunteers; coordinates with appropriate agencies to ensure that necessary services are provided to clients.
• Provides customer service in person, by telephone, and electronically.
• Performs general housekeeping duties related to the organization of materials and equipment in the common areas of the facility.
• Prepares for programs, including set up and take down; organization of required supplies.
• May be responsible for opening and/or closing the facility according to established procedures.
• Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:

Experience: Minimum of 18 years of age. One year of paid or unpaid work experience involving customer service.

Training:  Equivalent to graduation from high school.

Licenses/Certificates: All licenses and certificates must be maintained as a condition of employment.

•  Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a current First-Aid and CPR certificate within the first 12 months from date of hire.
