Under general supervision of the Economic and Housing Development Manager, assists in organizing and implementing an Economic Development Workplan that promotes the growth and development of the City’s economic base, including the facilitation of housing production and new building permits, the retention and expansion of existing businesses, and, sourcing new businesses for the City. This position will also support the Economic and Housing Development Manager’s staffing of the City’s Economic and Community Development Committee.

Distinguishing Characteristics

This is the journey level class within the Housing and Economic and Housing Development Specialist series. Employees perform the full range of duties as assigned. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. Because of the cooperative, facilitative and marketing nature of this role, individuals must be able to work well with and have knowledge of other City departments, community stakeholders, small business owners and real estate developers.

Supervision Received and Exercised

• Receives general supervision from the Economic and Housing Development Manager. 
• May exercise technical or functional supervision over less experienced staff.

Ideal Candidate

DEFINITION 

As a Building Attendant, you will be responsible for the daily upkeep and maintenance of the Burlingame Community Center, ensuring a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for all occupants. This role requires a hands-on individual with excellent attention to detail and strong communication skills.

Hours: (Average 10-20 hours per week). Hours depend on rentals and special events. Shifts may include, but are not limited too:

Monday-Thursday: 2:30pm-9:15pm

Friday: 2:30pm-5:30pm
Saturday/Sunday: 7:30am-1:15pm
Saturday/Sunday: 12:45pm-5:30pm
As needed: Private rentals as late as 2:00am. Shifts will vary week to week. There is no set schedule.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  (include but are not limited to the following)
Opens and closes the building, provides excellent customer service, and maintains a clean, safe, and welcoming environment. Performs regular cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning windows and mirrors, restocking and sanitizing restrooms, emptying trash and recycling, and wiping down surfaces. Assists with event and class setup and takedown of tables, chairs, and equipment, operates audiovisual equipment, and ensures renters follow facility policies, completing final walk-through reports as needed. Staffs the front desk to greet visitors, answer questions, answer phones, take messages, and process registrations and sales.

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILLS:  
Knowledge of: Operation of a community center; department rules and policies; availability of current classes; basic mathematical functions; janitorial work (including but not limited to: glass and wall cleaning, dusting, trash pickup, restroom clean up, emptying of trash cans, cleaning of kitchen, etc.).

Ability to: Work independently, learn quickly, perform heavy manual labor; work extremely well with others, including customers, staff, contractors, and volunteers; explain policies and procedures clearly and concisely; read and understand English;

Skills: Ability to use office equipment including copy machine, calculator and personal computer, and keyboarding skills.

QUALIFICATIONS: (The following are minimal qualifications necessary for entry into the classification.)
Education and/or Experience:
Sufficient experience and education to perform the above duties, which is typically obtained through sufficient maturity to perform these duties in a trustworthy manner.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL, AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Perform heavy manual labor, including bending and stooping; ability to explain recreation programs and policies with tact; calmly deal with difficult people and with people of different cultures.  Minor analysis of situations and adopting effective courses of action.

Benefits

Healthy Workplaces/Healthy Families Act of 2014 Paid Sick Leave Benefit. This benefit accrues at the rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked to a maximum benefit of 24 hours per year. There is no cash value associated with benefit.

Vacation Pay. This benefit is for part-time casual employees who work 30 or more days within a year from the beginning of employment with the City of Burlingame, and accrues at the rate of one hour for every 52 hours worked to a maximum benefit of 16 hours per year.  No employee shall be allowed to have an accumulation of more than two years’ worth of vacation accrual to their credit at any one time.

No other benefits are offered. This position is at will and is not part of the City's Civil Service System. There is no guarantee of hours and employment may end at any time.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Gilroy is recruiting for a graduate degree level Economic Development College Summer Intern for the summer of 2026. ABOUT THE TEAM 
The Economic Development team is a small, but might group that consists of a Director and Manager dedicated to strengthening and diversifying the local economy in Gilroy. The team focuses on business attraction, retention, expansion, and strategic partnerships that enhance the city’s economic vitality. Working closely with internal departments, community stakeholders, and regional partners, the team plays a central role in shaping initiatives that support sustainable growth. As an intern, you will work directly alongside leadership, gaining insight into how economic development strategy is crafted and executed at the municipal level.

WORK SCHEDULE 
Internships can start as early as May 26, 2026, and end as late as September 30, 2026. This paid internship is offered at 15 - 25 hours per week with flexible scheduling. The office start and end date of the internship will be determined at the time of hire. Work hours are generally Monday – Friday between 8:00am – 5:00pm.

PAL (Police Activities League) Program Attendants work in the formal Suisun City classification of Recreation Specialist I. Starting hourly rate will depend on qualifications. This position works on average 19 hours per week.

The Department: The Recreation, Parks and Marina Department is responsible for the operations and programs of the Suisun City Marina, the Senior Center and the Joseph A. The City of Live Oak is seeking a dynamic, visionary, and experienced leader to serve as the Community and Economic Development Director. This key position will oversee the planning, implementation, and coordination of community development initiatives, economic growth strategies, and planning projects to enhance the City's growth and quality of life. 

Under general administrative direction of the City Manager, plans, directs, manages, and oversees the activities and operations of the Community and Economic Development Department including planning, building inspection and compliance, code enforcement, affordable housing, economic development, and related services; coordinates assigned activities with other departments and outside agencies; and provides highly responsible and complex administrative support to the City Manager.

The Community and Economic Development Director is an “at -will” employee of the City and serves at the pleasure of the City Manager. The position is considered a Department Director with responsibility for directing the activities of a Department with the City. Positions at this class level serve as a member of the City’s senior management team and provide advice and counsel to the City Manager regarding strategic planning and problem solving issues relating to the assigned Department and the City overall.

• Works as the single point of contact with existing and prospective businesses, developers, brokers, and partners to facilitate business expansion in or relocation to the City; provides guidance to business throughout the development and permitting process; assists new and expanding businesses in site selection, acquisitions, and facility construction.
• Oversees building plan check, building inspection, and code enforcement, planning activities, and ensures compliance with appropriate laws, ordinances, and regulations.
• Monitors legislation and developments related to economic development matters; evaluates their impact on City operations and programs, and recommends and implements policy and procedural improvements.
• Prepares and reviews complex documents including development agreements, specific and master plans including financing implementation plans and related contracts; testifies in court as an expert witness for the City on development related matters.
• Explains, justifies, and defends department programs, policies, and activities; negotiates and resolves sensitive and controversial issues.
• Gathers, tracks, and analyzes local, regional, and state economic and market indicators and other data, draws appropriate conclusions, and makes appropriate recommendations; conducts research regarding economic conditions and trends in the local area and makes recommendations for programs and activities for the City; identifies target industries based on operating, workforce, distribution, and infrastructure criteria, and City objectives.
• Serves as a representative for the Department and City in coordination with governmental agencies, community organizations, and other stakeholder groups as a participant in meetings, committees, and other professional settings.

The General Maintenance Worker plays a vital role in keeping our communities and centers clean, safe, and visually appealing. This position focuses on a specific set of tasks tailored to meet the needs of the Recreation & Community Services Department, differing from the broader responsibilities of a full General Maintenance Worker under the Public Works Department. The Recreation Coordinator or Recreation and Community Services Supervisor is the key point of contact for this position, providing general direction and/or supervision.

1. Field Preparation: Assist t with basic field preparation for baseball and softball, including tasks like dragging the infield play area, marking chalk lines, and other essential setup activities.
    
2. Groundskeeping: Support keeping the exterior areas of community centers clean and presentable by removing trash and maintaining general tidiness. Assist with watering and care of indoor plants within recreation centers as needed.
    
3. Facility Cleaning: Perform light janitorial duties, including cleaning restrooms, fitness centers, and lobbies.
    
4. Events & Equipment Support: Assist with event setup and teardown once events are completed. Maintain special event equipment, furniture and supplies and promptly report any damaged or broken items to a supervisor for replacement.

The Newark Recreation and Community Services Department is seeking enthusiastic individuals who are passionate about working with the public and have a genuine interest in coaching and serving as positive role models in their community. This role involves teaching the fundamentals of various sports, as well as coaching, refereeing, and scorekeeping for both youth and adult sports programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Coach and referee youth & adult sports programs to maintain standards of play and ensure the safety of all participants.

• Teach and explain the rules and regulations of basketball, volleyball, baseball, etc.

Essential Duties

• Maintains required records, including team registrations, team rosters, program supplies, and program statistics.
• Oversees adult recreational sports leagues.
• Supports youth flag football and basketball leagues.
