• Evaluate the sources of outside funds, prepare and submit grant applications, and administer secured funds.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is:

• Four years of experience in a public safety, health, social services, or community-based program that included responsibility for program planning, client or customer services, program evaluation, budget administration, or community resource coordination.

Knowledge of:

• Principles and practices of public administration and program management, including planning, implementation, and evaluation.
• Principles and practices of effective victim advocacy programs, including current trends in support, research, treatment, education, litigation, or related services.
• Principles of personnel training, supervision, and evaluation.
• Laws, codes, and regulations governing victim programs.
• Community resources available for victim support work.

Skill/Ability to:

• Organize, direct, and coordinate program services.
• Work cooperatively with other County departments and public and private organizations.
• Analyze problems accurately, develop recommendations, and take appropriate action to resolve them.
• Prepare complex and detailed written reports, procedures, grant applications, and contracts.
• Speak effectively to diverse audiences, including professional, clinical, and citizen groups.
• Apply principles and techniques of community organization, including community awareness, resource coordination, and mobilization of diverse community groups, as appropriate.

Summary
Under general supervision, assists in organizing, leading and conducting recreational programs and provides highly responsible and technical professional staff assistance in developing and conducting specialized recreational programs; and performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Plans, schedules, assigns, supervises and participates in a recreation unit of the District typically consisting of part-time employees; organizes and conducts programs in program areas such as fine and performing arts, sports, outdoor activities, therapeutics and inclusion; interprets and communicates District policies to staff and ensures compliance with applicable federal, state and District safety regulations; interviews and participates in selecting new staff; establishes performance requirements; regularly monitors, evaluates and addresses performance.
• Contributes to the development of and monitors performance against the program budget; approves purchases and other expenditures in accordance with District policies and procedures.
• Identi­fies, contacts, selects and prepares documents for contract instructors; provides first-level approval and processes contract invoices.
• Prepares written public correspondence, speaks to school and community groups and promotes participation in scheduled activities through marketing plans and outreach efforts.
• Instructs participants in various athletic and recreational activities.
• Coordinates and participates in equipment and vendor selection, physical setup for special activities and the issuing and collecting of materials.
• Assists supervisor with the research, development, enhancement and implementation of new and existing services and programming; assists in monitoring program effective­ness.
• Prepares and maintains a variety of records and reports on participation, equipment and facility use.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

• May be required to drive a District or personal vehicle.
• May coordinate activities and meetings of the Community Advisory Council.

Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfac­torily. Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skill and/or ability listed below is qualifying.

Education/Experience: A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: a bachelor’s degree with emphasis in recreation or a closely related field; and two years of group recreational activity leadership experience including supervisory, public relations or marketing skills; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

As assigned to Therapeutic Recreation Unit, preferred degree in Therapeutic Recreation and/or two years of experience working with individuals with developmental disabili­ties, prefer­ably with ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis); and the ability to learn/imple­ment applicable laws and inclusion methods and practices. Knowledge of principles and techniques pertaining to the specialized program activities and program marketing and evaluation methods; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Ability: Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents in area of expertise, technical proce­dures, or government regulations. Ability to write reports, correspondence and proce­dure manuals. Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form. Ability to present information and respond to questions. Ability to speak Spanish is desirable.

Math Ability: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages and costs. Ability to determine cost of contractors and provide budget input.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions provided in written or oral form. Ability to exercise a high degree of independent judgment.

Certificates and Licenses: 

• First Aid & CPR/AED within 90 days of employment with ability to maintain certifications thereafter as a condition of employment.
• Valid California driver’s license with a good driving record and current automobile insurance.
• Therapeutics program requires a California Commercial Class C Driver License within six months of employment.
• Aquatics program requires a Certified Pool Operator’s certification or Aquatic Facility Operator’s certification within six months of employment as well as Life­guard training, American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Trainer and American Red Cross Water Safety instructor certificates.
• All full-time candidates require satisfactory completion of a pre-employment functional capacity examination.
• Department of Justice fingerprint clearance.
• Proof of negative TB skin test.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Typically supervises part-time employees in the recreation department, including performance evaluations. The number of part-time employees supervised varies depending on unit assignment.

Sausalito Parks and Recreation is Seeking Vibrant Skilled Recreation Leaders 

This recruitment is for spring, summer and fall events and activities beginning March 9th, such as Bocce and Volleyball Referee, Jazz and Blues, Fourth of July, Chili Cook-off, A Toast to Sausalito, Halloween and other fun classes, activities, and events. Ideal candidates will be available to referee Monday through Thursday each week and/or to staff events on Friday evenings from June through August and occasional Saturdays. 

Pay: $16.90 - $17.90/ Hr.

The City of Sausalito is recruiting part-time temporary help for the spring, summer, and fall seasons of recreation activities and City-wide events.  The first of these is the Bocce League referee.  

Bocce Referee
As a Sausalito Parks and Recreation Bocce Referee, you are responsible for set-up, management, and cleanup of scheduled Bocce matches. You are the enforcer of rules, an impartial judge, and an advocate for fun and fair play, all while maintaining a positive attitude and providing a friendly environment when communicating with teams and keeping score. This position reports directly to the Recreation Supervisor.  The ideal candidate must meet all minimum requirements as listed below and be confident and capable of dealing with conflict and intense games.  

Event Staff

As a Sausalito Parks and Recreation Event Staff member, you are responsible for actively participating in set-up, cleanup, and management of your assigned event.  You must arrive on time and remain until the event leader releases you after the event.   Event staff may set up chairs, tables, stages, corridors, and barriers.  You may be asked to perform traffic control or direct drivers to parking.  The ideal candidate will have a can-do attitude, meet all of the minimum requirements below, remain calm under pressure and in the face of adversity, be cheerful, friendly, and love the diversity of people. 

The minimum requirements for the position are:

• Reliable transportation to and from games or events
• Ability and commitment to arrive on time and remain until duties are completed and you are released

This position requires active engagement with children, adherence to safety standards, and the ability to maintain required staff-to-child ratios.

This is an hourly, at-will, part-time (non-benefited) position offering paid training and valuable experience in youth development and public service.
 
Schedule

• Part to Full-day summer camp shifts
• Up to 8.5 hours per day, including a 30-minute unpaid meal period
• Potential opportunity for continued part-time employment during the school year in our after school programs or other recreation programs.

                             SELECTION PROCESS: 

• Applications will be evaluated based on education, training, and experience as it relates to the position

• The eligibility list for hire will be determined by the supplemental questions. 
• Additional testing such a written, oral panel interviews, and department level interviews may occur.
