The Department of Public Works is seeking to fill a vacant Security Officer position.  This position is responsible for performing work focused around security services at City Hall and providing a safe and orderly environment for staff and the public.  Shift rotation will be required every 6 months and will be based staff bids or the need of the department.

Duties include, but are not limited to, providing service to customers, monitoring closed circuit video and access control systems in Security Operation Center (SOC); escorting contractors to perform maintenance on security equipment; monitoring and/or inspecting vehicles at the garage entrance; issuing access badges to employees, interns or contractors for City Hall and other off-site locations. This position will also provide security coverage for various city meetings, public or private events, commissions and hearings in addition to coordinating with Police and Fire during emergency operations, medical calls or other related calls of service pertaining to the City Hall campus.

Current shifts for this position are Monday through Friday, day and swing shifts, however, the position may at times provide coverage for meetings or events on weekends or special projects on the weekend that could fall on a City of San Jose recognized holiday.

This position has a uniform requirement including a jacket & safety shoes. This classification receives an annual uniform allowance every year through the MEF bargaining unit Memorandum of Agreement. While on duty, incumbents of this position will be required to wear the approved uniform for this classification.  

Selected candidate will need to successfully complete a background check prior to date of hire.

The Safety Analyst I/II will report to the Safety Officer and will perform administrative and technical tasks to deliver program services as it relates to the City of San José's Employee Safety Management programs. This includes, but is not limited to, responding to safety questions from departments, coordinate meetings & events, track budgetary expenses, conduct training, assist with safety compliance, maintain the Health and Safety division's intranet webpage, and coordinate the employee emergency response team. The actual salary shall be determined by the final candidate's qualifications and experience. In addition to the starting salary, employees in the Analyst I/II classification shall also receive an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation pay.

The Department is currently recruiting for two (2) Heavy Equipment Operators (HEO) for the Parks Division. One position is full-time, permanent and the other position is full-time with budget approval (limited-dated) through June 30, 2020. Under general supervision, the HEOs in PRNS perform work of moderate difficulty in operating heavy motorized construction equipment requiring a high degree of skill in the maintenance of City streets and sewer lines and in the conduct of wastewater treatment operations.

Typical duties include, but are not limited to the following:

·  Operates heavy motorized construction equipment, such as: 20-ton truck crane, tilt trailer, motor grader, chip spreader, backhoes, compactors, scraper, roller, loaders, floating sludge dredge, conveyors, tractor-trailers, skip loaders, skid steer loaders, bulldozers, excavators, all-terrain forklift, commercial and/or off-road vehicles.

·  Performs minor field repair and service on assigned equipment.

·  Operates heavy equipment in emergency response, including after hours, weekends, and holidays.

·  Observes and reports possible problems with utility lines and other obstructions that might be affected by the movement of earth.  

· In some positions, uses computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).

· Due to seasonal projects, may be required to work 10-hour shifts, overtime, weekends, and holidays. 

·  May work in confined spaces.

·  May provide lead guidance to assigned personnel.

Some positions may require maintaining of Crane Operator certification.

Under the supervision of the Recreation Coordinator, this position is assigned to the Aquatics Division of the Recreation Department at the City of Pacifica.  The Head Swim Coach teaches the fundamentals of competitive swimming in a positive environment.  The duties include coaching the swim team, providing instruction and guidance during training sessions, supervising several assistant swim coaches, and performing other related work as required.

The Head Swim Coach is responsible for working with the Recreation Coordinator to ensure the development of each individual swimmer while encouraging sportsmanship, healthy competition, and attendance at meets.  This position is expected to enforce the discipline of regular swimming practices consisting of technique demonstration and drills along with age-appropriate motivation, encouragement and fun.

Essential Functions of the Position

• Attend all scheduled swim meets; supervise all swimmers; coordinate volunteers (in conjunction with the PSL Parent Board); create all swim meet line-ups and information.
• Coordinate practice group scheduling and assign athletes to appropriate training groups; maintain appropriate records for team members and meets.
• Plan, prepare, and conduct team practices; develop strong team building qualities through demonstrated leadership.
• Attend all swim team staff meetings; attend all registration and parent meetings; coordinate and attend all swim team special events and fundraisers.
• Actively coach swimmers in competitive stroke training to improve technique.
• Recruit new swimmers to program.
• Have basic computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel or related programs.
• Possess excellent customer service skills in all forms of communication.
• Meet all safety and operational requirements in the facility; abide by the USA Swimming Code of Conduct and Park, Beaches & Recreation policies and procedures.

Supervision Received and Exercised

Receives direction from the Aquatics Recreation Coordinator.  Exercises supervision over all assistant swim coaches and all swim team participants.

Qualifications

Minimum two-year history of coaching on a competitive swim teams is mandatory, plus a minimum two-year history as a swimming instructor.  Familiarity with the USA Swimming rules and local swim conference rules and regulations.  Certification in Safety Training for Swim Coaches or equivalent is required, if candidate does not currently possess this certification they must obtain it within 30 days of employment.  Current lifeguarding and C/PRO certification required.  Current and valid California driver’s license required.  Experience as a head coach of a competitive swim team is highly desirable.  A Bachelor’s degree or an Associate Degree in physical education, recreation, or a related field also is desirable.

All employees of the Parks, Beaches & Recreation Department that work with children in any capacity need to successfully pass the Department of Justice fingerprint requirements prior to employment.  All employees must provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.

Working Conditions

Environmental working conditions include outdoor and indoor swimming pool environment; exposure to potentially hazardous chemicals, heat, cold, sun, and inclement weather conditions; and work around slippery surfaces.

This is a part-time, at-will, non-benefited position. Hours are limited to less than 1,000 hours per year.

The City of San Jose is recruiting for a part-time School Crossing Guards in the Police Department during the normal school year.  Work involves providing for the safe conduct of elementary and junior high school children across heavily traveled streets and reporting problems requiring possible police action. Positions may involve substituting at different corners or a regular location assignment.  IN GENERAL, THESE ASSIGNMENTS ARE A SPLIT SHIFT WITH APPROXIMATELY 10 HOURS PER WEEK.  School Crossing Guards are required to work outside regardless of weather conditions and must be able to provide a uniform as specified by the Police Department.   Work includes outside duties and exposure to weather.  Work may include the physical ability to sit, stand, walk quickly, step up/down from the curb, reach, push and/or pull, twist and or rotate, bend, lift and carry up to 10 pounds, use hands hold and use a stop sign the entire shift, use other hand to stop traffic and use a whistle at the same.
