The Position

The Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) provides oversight and strategic direction for nursing practice across the organization’s continuum of care. This role ensures a unified nursing vision and consistent standards of practice in all clinical areas where patients receive nursing services. The CNO establishes nursing policies, procedures, standards of practice, and care models that meet the needs of the patient populations served by the organization. They assess, plan, and monitor the resources necessary to support safe, high-quality patient care and foster an environment that promotes staff recruitment, retention, and professional growth.

The Chief Nursing Officer reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer and serves as a member of the Senior Leadership Team. The incumbent exercises direct and indirect supervision over skilled nursing, acute psychiatry, emergency services, acute medical/surgical services, perioperative services, ambulatory nursing practice, case management, social services, and other managerial, clinical, technical, and clerical staff. The CNO also collaborates with the Chief Medical Officer, Chief Quality & Experience Officer, and Chief Financial Officer to ensure the optimal delivery of medical services at San Mateo Medical Center.

Ideal Candidate

• Holds or is currently pursuing an advanced degree in Nursing Science
• Brings at least four years of progressive leadership experience overseeing nursing services in a complex healthcare setting

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is:

License/Certification

• Current Licensure as a Registered Nurse in California
• Certification in Nursing Administration issued by the American Nurses Credential Center (ANCC) upon hire or within two years of hire

Experience

Four years of increasingly responsible experience in a healthcare organization performing a variety of administrative and management duties.

In addition, successful candidates will possess a minimum of two years of experience within the past five years in a senior-level administrative or executive leadership position.

Education

Possession of, or current enrollment in, an advanced degree program in Nursing Science.

What You’ll Do
The Development Review Technician I/II/Senior performs a wide variety of technical, paraprofessional support, and customer service duties related to building permits and development or planning applications; serves the public at the Community Development Department Permit Center; and performs other related work as required. 

Development Review Technician I - This is the entry level class in the Development Review Technician series that allows the employee to develop journey-level knowledge and skills. Positions in this class typically have little or no directly related work experience. The Development Review Technician I class is distinguished from the II level by the performance of less than the full range of duties assigned to the II level. Incumbents work under immediate supervision while learning job tasks, progressing to general supervision as procedures and processes of assigned area of responsibility are learned. Employees are expected to demonstrate proficiency and advance to the Development Review Technician II classification. Development Review Technician I receives immediate supervision from the Permit Center Supervisor or higher-level department personnel and may receive training and guidance from a Development Review Technician II or Senior Development Review Technician.

Development Review Technician II - This is the journey level class in the Development Review Technician series and is distinguished from the I level by the assignment of the full range of duties. Employees at this level receive occasional instruction or assistance as new, unusual or unique situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies within the work unit. They may assist with training of employees in the Development Review Technician I classifications and perform more difficult and complex duties. The Development Review Technician II receives general supervision from the Permit Center Supervisor or higher-level department personnel and may receive technical and functional lead direction from a Senior Development Review Technician. May provide training and guidance to Development Review Technician I.

Senior Development Review Technician – This is the advanced journey level in the Development Review Technician series. Positions at this level are distinguished from other classes within the series by the level of responsibility assumed, complexity of duties assigned, independence of action taken, by the amount of time spent performing the duties, and by the nature of the public contact made. Employees perform the most difficult and complex duties and serve as a lead worker to employees in the Development Review Technician I and Development Review Technician II classifications. Employees at this level are required to be fully trained in all procedures related to assigned areas of responsibility. Senior Development Review Technician receives direction from the Permit Center Supervisor or higher-level department personnel. Serves as a lead worker over Development Review Technicians I/II.

The Senior Development Review Technician is a flexibly staffed classification, and positions are generally filled by advancement from the journey level class of Development Review Technician II through a competitive process, or, when filled from the outside, require prior and advance development review or permit technician work experience.

Depending upon assignment, duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: 

Development Review Technician I/II 

• Assist the public at the Permit Center, provide customer service in person, by phone or by email regarding building and development review submittal/application requirements, including but not limited to applicable fees, plan review, permitting, inspection processes and project status. 
• Screen and review building permit and development review applications for completeness; enter permit data into permitting software database; route plans and specifications to all applicable City departments and/or outside agencies for review, track plan review process 
• Compile building permit and related data as directed, prepare various reports. Review and issue permits for minor applications for conformance with ordinances, applicable state law and department's standards, policies, and guidelines. 
• Calculate various fees, prepare fee estimates and apply fees to permits or other development review billings. 
• Approve and issue over-the-counter permits. 
• Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees and the public using practical principles of good customer service. 
• Foster an environment that embraces diversity, integrity, trust, and respect. 
• Be an integral team player, which involves flexibility, cooperation, and communication. 
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Senior Development Review Technician 
In addition to the duties listed above, duties may include the following: 

• Plan, prioritize, and review the work of staff assigned to a variety of development review support duties. 
• Assist the general public with questions regarding building and development review/permit requirements. 
• Accept building permit and development review applications, act as lead on complicated plan check input and questions. 
• Participate in evaluating the activities of staff, recommending improvements and modifications. 
• Coordinate and prepare counter coverage and daily/weekly task rotation schedules. 
• Provide and coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies. 
• Compile building related data as directed; prepare various reports.

What You’ll Do

The Senior Program Assistant performs a variety of complex clerical and technical functions in support of programs at the assigned facility.  Depending upon assignment, duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Coordinate a variety of tasks associated with the delivery of services under programs at the assigned facility.
• Coordinate facility booking, scheduling and rental processes.
• Assist in providing for the safety, maintenance and security of program participants, staff, equipment and facilities.
• Act as liaison with program and managerial staff, community groups and program participants.

The County of San Mateo's Department of Public Works is seeking applications for the position of Electrician. 

 

Electricians are responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems and equipment in and around County buildings. This position requires the ability to work independently in different locations with minimal supervision. While much of the work is performed independently, the Construction Services section is characterized by a strong sense of teamwork and camaraderie.

Construction Services Section
Construction Services offers specialized crafts services that go beyond routine maintenance provided by the Facilities Operations and Maintenance section. We partner with the County and Cities to deliver carpentry, graffiti abatement, and lighting district services. Our skilled team, including craftsmen, maintenance workers, utility workers, and office support staff, handles diverse tasks from remodels to new construction projects. The ideal candidate for this position will have:

• Eight or more years of experience performing Journey-level facilities maintenance electrical work.
• A Journeyman's Electrician Card (certificate).
• Excellent computer skills including familiarity with mobile applications.

Electricians work at various locations throughout San Mateo County (County Facilities/Buildings, San Mateo Medical Center, Hall of Justice, Maguire Correctional Facility, Maple Street Correctional Center, Youth Services Center, and multiple Community Resource Centers within the county).

The selected candidate for this job must undergo a thorough background check by the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office and fill out a comprehensive security clearance form. They must maintain their security clearance throughout their employment and be cleared to work in locked facilities that house incarcerated individuals.

Work schedule: Monday-Friday shifts ranging from 3:00pm – 6:00pm, Wednesday 1:00pm – 6:00pm, Saturday-Sunday 8:00am – 1:00pm. Schedule may change as needed.

Essential Duties

As a Recreation Leader for San Carlos Parks and Recreation you will:

The Environmental Health Services Division of San Mateo County Health is seeking a well-qualified candidate for the position of Environmental Health Program Supervisor – Hazardous Materials Program.

The Position

Working under general supervision, the successful candidate will supervise, direct, organize, manage, evaluate, audit, and provide accountability for one or more Environmental Health programs in areas encompassing hazardous materials/hazardous waste and environmental health program outreach for pollution prevention, public health protection, and environmental health operations.

The current vacancy supervises staff in the Environmental Health Services Division's hazardous materials/hazardous waste areas and Pollution Prevention programs. This position is located in San Mateo, but will require some travel/driving throughout the county to perform the duties of the job.

The Hazardous Materials Program Supervisor will work in the Certified Unified Program Agencies (CUPA) program and additionally oversee the Pollution Prevention Program. In addition to supervising Pollution Prevention Program work, this position will supervise CUPA regulatory programs, including the Hazardous Materials Business Plan Program, Hazardous Waste Generator (HWG) Program, California Accidental Release Prevention Program, Hazardous Materials Program Fees, Underground Storage Tanks (UST) Program, and Above Ground Petroleum Storage Tank Program.

Key responsibilities include providing subject matter expertise on the Hazardous Waste Generator program and supervising a team of nine specialists across multiple programs. Additionally, the supervisor will also serve in a leadership capacity with the District Attorney's office, political leaders, and county management, and will ensure compliance with all inspection and reporting requirements. Additionally, the incumbent will provide programmatic supervision around website management, messaging, and outreach services for grant work and to other programs within the Division, and ensure messaging and branding alignment with County Health.

Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will bring enthusiasm and a strong commitment to public service. More specifically, the ideal candidate will demonstrate:

• Proficient in all CUPA regulatory program areas and possess a valid ICC (International Code Council) certification as an underground tank inspector.
• Knowledgeable of the division's enforcement options, such as the Hazardous Materials Administrative Enforcement Orders (AEO) and the District Attorney referral processes.
• Experienced with at least four years of journey level experience in hazardous materials management in the areas of storage, transportation, handling and disposal of hazardous materials and/or hazardous waste; underground tank construction, monitoring and removal; or underground tank site remediation.
• Knowledgeable of hazardous materials management, including its scientific background, technology, principles, methods, investigative techniques and problems; laws, regulations and codes governing hazardous materials; emergency response procedures and protocols; government agencies, community organizations and business establishments as they relate to environmental health and hazardous materials management; basic practices in the transportation and disposal of hazardous wastes.
• Knowledgeable of contract and grant monitoring and expenditures, grant applications, RFP processes.
• Approachable and politically astute with a supervisory style that quickly fosters trust, loyalty, respect and commitment from employees.
• An experienced hazardous materials management professional with a thorough understanding of the full range of issues, practices and regulations related to the CUPA programs.
• An innovative leader who has collaborated with other agencies with positive outcomes that benefited public health and public education.
• Technologically savvy and knowledgeable of electronic field inspection systems and other computer-based technologies utilized by regulatory agencies.
• Highly focused and organized, capable of establishing and implementing program budgets.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively manage time, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced regulatory environment.
• An excellent problem-solver with superior oral and written communication skills.

• Possession of a California certificate as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) is preferred, but not required.

In addition, the ideal candidate will have four years of progressively responsible experience in an environmental health field, such as hazardous materials management, infectious waste, or food sanitation, including at least two years of experience with a regulatory agency.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

This position requires a valid International Code Council (ICC) certification as an underground tank inspector. If you do not have the ICC certification, you will be required to acquire it within six months of being hired. The California Code of Regulations (CCR) requires local agency inspectors conducting underground storage tank (UST) inspections to have a current inspector certificate from the International Code Council (ICC).

The San Mateo County Employees’ Retirement Association (SamCERA) was founded in 1944 by the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors to provide retirement, disability, and death benefits to County employees. SamCERA operates as an independent public agency under the authority of the County Employees’ Retirement Law of 1937.

The Board of Retirement consists of nine trustees:

• Four elected from the membership
• Four appointed by the County Board of Supervisors

The Board has sole fiduciary responsibility over the fund’s assets and is responsible for administering both the basic benefits provided by the 1937 Act and any optional provisions adopted by the County Board of Supervisors.

Your Role
Appointed by the Board of Retirement, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) leads the management and administration of the retirement system in alignment with Board direction, policy, and goals. The CEO provides high-level administrative support to the Board and oversees a staff of 22. This role is key to developing investment and benefits policy, coordinating member services, and driving long-term strategies to meet SamCERA’s mission.

Salary and Benefits

• Annual Salary: $264,784 to $330,949
