THE DEPARTMENT

The Library and Recreation Department is comprised of two divisions, Library and Recreation & Childcare, that are dedicated to enhancing the quality of life of San Rafael residents. The Department’s mission is to enrich the community through discovery, learning, and play, and strives to maximize the delivery of strategically aligned programs and services to provide the highest value for the community.

The Recreation Division operates with a $4.93 million budget and 18 FTE. The Recreation Division includes 3 community centers, one cultural center, an aquatics center, two community gardens, 3 ballfields, a multi-use turf field, 3 community parks, 11 neighborhood parks, 6 pocket parks, and 5 special use parks. The Recreation Division is responsible for developing innovative, diverse, and community-centered programs and services at the City’s park and recreation facilities.

The Albert J. Boro Community Center and Pickleweed Community Park are important facilities managed by the Recreation Division. The Albert J. Boro Community Center and Pickleweed Park are located in the heart of the Canal neighborhood, a vibrant and diverse area that has traditionally been marked by socio-economic disparities compared to the rest of San Rafael. The facility is heavily utilized and is an important resource for a predominantly Spanish-speaking community. Programming of the facility is supported by the City Council-appointed Pickleweed Advisory Committee.

The Community Center is co-located with the Pickleweed Library and is a successful example of joint and collaborative use between the City’s Library and Recreation Divisions. The Pickleweed Library is scheduled for major renovation starting in Fall 2025, with select library programs relocating into the Community Center. Pickleweed Park is currently wrapping up another major renovation, which included converting two full-size soccer fields to all-weather turf, and adding new amenities, including a basketball court, fitness equipment, play area, and gazebo. The park is expected to be fully re-opened in late July.

 

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The Recreation Supervisor will oversee the Albert J. Boro Community Center and Pickleweed Park, serving as a key leader in enhancing recreational services for the surrounding community.

The ideal candidate for the Recreation Supervisor position will be a dynamic and service-oriented leader with a strong background in recreation programs and services, staff supervision, and community engagement. They will have demonstrated experience in planning, organizing, and overseeing recreation programs and services that align with the diverse needs of the community. A successful candidate will be skilled in fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment, managing and mentoring staff, and implementing innovative programs that enhance recreation services.

This individual will be an effective communicator and problem solver, adept at engaging with community stakeholders, fairly and transparently balancing the needs of diverse user groups and ensuring that programs and services meet the needs of a multilingual community. Experience with City Boards, Commissions, and Committees; diverse program offerings (multilingual and older adult programming, rentals, gymnasiums, etc.); and multiuse sports fields are a plus.

Additionally, the ideal candidate will have experience in budget management, cost recovery strategies, and policy implementation to support recreation programs and services. They will be committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion, ensuring that recreation programs are welcoming and accessible to all. • Participates in program budget development, and monitoring.

A typical way to obtain these would be: BA in Recreation and four years of recreation experience including two years in a lead or supervisory position. Valid drivers license.

This position is a regular position of the City’s San Rafael Mid-Management Employee Association (SRMMEA) and is eligible to receive benefits including but not limited to:

• MEDICAL | City group health coverage, with the City paying a fixed dollar amount toward the cost of the monthly insurance premium. Employee only: $950.00; Employee plus one: $1,900.00; Family: $2,400.00

The City of Thousand Oaks is seeking a forward-thinking and results-driven Budget Officer to play a pivotal leadership role in the Finance Department. As the strategic leader of the City’s biennial budget process, the Budget Officer collaborates with all departments, provides key insights to executive leadership, and ensures transparent, data-informed decision-making. With the City currently implementing a new budget software, the successful candidate will take ownership of the system and be responsible for producing the final budget documents in both print and digital formats. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Budget Strategy, Development, and Reporting 

• Lead the development and administration of the City’s biennial Operating and Capital Improvement budgets  

• Lead the development and administration of the City’s biennial User Fees, Fines, and Penalties Schedule 

• Lead the development and administration of the City’s annual Cost Allocation Plan  

• Collaborate with departments to align financial resources with City goals and priorities 

• Develop multi-year financial forecasts and monitor trends to support long-term planning  

• Write clear, concise, and effective staff reports to communicate complex financial information to City leadership and the public 

• Prepare and present budget reports and other financial information for internal and external stakeholders 

System Implementation and Innovation 

• Take ownership of the City’s new budget software system and the development of the online and PDF versions of the Adopted Operating and CIP budgets  

• Streamline and improve the City’s Monthly Financial Report  

• Play a key role in the planning and implementation of the City’s future ERP system replacement 

• Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement innovative processes 

 Financial Reporting & Capital Management 

• Oversee capital asset budgeting and coordinate with departments on project funding and tracking  

• Analyze financial and operational data to provide insights and recommendations to executive leadership

Leadership & Collaboration

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Mill Valley Library is recruiting an Archivist for the Lucretia Little History Room. This person will direct the History Room’s operations and services and supervise docents and staff to help acquire, preserve, and showcase local history. The archivist will oversee the Division’s budget and write grants to support additional projects. The selected candidate will continue implementation of current initiatives and help modernize and chart a future path for the History Room.   

The History Room Archivist will:

• Seek partnerships with local organizations to acquire or share important local history collections.
• Look for creative ways to showcase the collection by curating original content for different formats.
• Oversee and expand the Oral History Project.
• Monitor and improve preservation of materials.
• Assess copyright issues and fulfill photo requests.
• Collaborate with the Historical Society on a shared mission to promote local history.

ABOUT THE HISTORY ROOM

The Lucretia Little History Room is dedicated to illuminating the unique history of Mill Valley and making it accessible to people of all ages and interests.

The collection includes about 10,000 historical photos, local artifacts, maps, house files, over 250 oral histories, and research materials. History Room staff assists the public with research and collaborates with the Mill Valley Historical Society and other local organizations. Recent projects have included the launch of a local history podcast, virtual exhibitions, Building History in 3D, and Mapping Mill Valley History. These projects highlight material from the collection while engaging a new audience.

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS 

• Diverse and Impactful Project Involvement: Review diverse residential and commercial plans, influencing safe, code-compliant development.

The Plan Check Assistant performs a range of duties in reviewing and checking building construction plans (residential, commercial, and industrial) for compliance with all applicable State and City codes. 

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Read and interpret architectural and structural engineering plans to ensure conformance with the California codes, structural design codes, and local municipal codes.  

• Respond to inquiries from, and provide information to architects, engineers, contractors, building designers, homeowners, and the general public regarding project status, plan checking, and other code-related issues  

• Provide assistance at the public service counter (over-the-counter plan checking, code and permit fee questions)

After School Program Technician I's work in the formal Suisun City classification of Recreation Specialist II. Starting hourly rate will depend on qualifications. This position works on average 19-29 hours per week.

The Position: Under general supervision, this position involves organizing, leading, and coordinating a variety of indoor and outdoor recreational and educational activities for an Afterschool Program. This role is classified as Temporary Part-Time to support both seasonal and year-round recreational programs.

On April 29, 2025, Suisun City Council approved a new contract between the Suisun City RPM Department and the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District (FSUSD). This agreement expands after school programming to include to grades TK-5 at Dan O. The City of Sebastopol is looking for a respectful, compassionate, empathetic Police Officer Trainee. The selected candidate must be currently enrolled or enrolled at a future date as a self-sponsored recruit in a certified Peace Officer Standards & Training Council (P.O.S.T.) Police Academy. The Police Officer Trainee is a non-sworn, training-level classification requiring no prior law enforcement experience. The incumbent performs a variety of entry-level police support duties in a learning capacity. The selected candidate will assist and observe Police Officers and civilian police personnel.

The successful candidate will attend the Police Academy to obtain a Basic P.O.S.T. Certificate of Completion, and perform related work which may require public contact but not the enforcement of laws. Police Officer Trainees attend a POST certified Police Academy, which follows a standardized curriculum in order to provide them with basic training in various aspects of policing, many of which are prescribed by law and/or statute.

The Police Academy training is designed to provide the candidate the necessary skillsets to prepare them for consideration for promotion to a probationary Police Officer position within the City and begin the Sebastopol Police Department’s Field Training Officer program. If an academy is required, the candidate will be hired as a Police Officer Trainee. Upon completion of the academy, promotion will be made to Police Officer.

Selection Process:

All qualified applicants will be invited to appear before an Oral Appraisal Board. Applicants passing the Oral Board examination will be placed on the eligibility list based on their Oral Appraisal Board rankings. Prospective employees will be required to pass a physical agility examination and undergo a thorough background investigation including a medical, psychological, polygraph and drug/alcohol screening.
