The City of Newark is seeking an energetic and committed Associate Civil Engineer to perform professional civil engineering work related to the planning, review, design, construction, inspection, and coordination of a variety of public works projects. 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

• Meet and confer with developers, contractors, engineers and the general public relative to city policies, regulations, and procedures.
• Attend Development Review Committee meetings on designated entitlement projects and present and coordinate Engineering issues with other City departments.
• Recommend and prepare conditions of approval for Planning entitlement projects.
• Review private and public development improvement plans and subdivision maps for compliance with state and local codes, regulations and standards, and compliance with the requirements of project approval.
• Review development encroachment permits, building permits, grading and sitework permits and other permit applications, including technical reports and documents such as hydrology and hydraulic reports, stormwater management reports, and geotechnical reports.
• Review legal property descriptions, ordinances, assessment plans and other written materials.

• Makes engineering calculations, completes design drawings, makes and revises maps, charts and diagrams.

• Assist Public Works Inspectors in resolving construction issues.

• Perform field inspections of various municipal construction projects, in progress and upon completion.

• Respond to applicants, contractors, consulting engineers regarding technical information and project related issues; assist and coordinate project resolutions with applicant’s team and City team.
• Coordinate projects with various agencies, such as Caltrans, Union Sanitary District (USD), Alameda County Water District (ACWD), and Alameda County Flood Control District (ACFCD)

• Perform work in accordance with local, State, and Federal standards and regulations

• Attend Alameda County Cleanwater Program committee meetings.

• Schedule and track progress of land development projects.

• Prepare staff reports, as well as presentations for City Council, and other legislative bodies; respond to the public and other inquiries orally and in writing.

• Develop Requests for Qualifications (RFQs) and participate with other department staff in the selection of consulting engineers.

• Serve as Project Engineer on Public Works capital improvement projects and transportation engineering tasks as needed.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:

• Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering or a related field. 
• Three (3) years of civil engineering experience, including one year of lead responsibility. 
• Registered as a licensed Professional Civil Engineer in the State of California.
• Possession of a valid driver license and a satisfactory driving record throughout employment.

Under the general direction of the Deputy Executive Director of Projects, the Director of Programming and Project Controls will plan, organize, manage, and provide administrative direction and oversight for all activities of the Programming and Project Controls Department; coordinate assigned projects, programs, and activities with other Alameda CTC staff, local agencies, regional transportation agencies, and state, and federal agencies; provides complex staff assistance to the Deputy Executive Director of Projects in areas of expertise; and perform related work as required.

This is a non-sworn, civilian training classification to be used while incumbent is attending a certified P.O.S.T. Basic Police Academy.  Incumbent in this classification receives the same employee benefits as Police Officers, with the exception of being placed in the “Miscellaneous” retirement category until successful completion of a designated police academy, and as a civilian employee, will not be covered by government code sections 4850 and 3300 through 3311.  Upon successful completion of an academy, incumbent shall be sworn as a Police Officer, placed in the safety retirement category and begin an 18-month probationary period as a Police Officer on the date of swearing in.

A Dispatcher I is a civilian employee of the Police Department who performs a variety of tasks in the Department’s Support Services Division. The Dispatcher I receives incoming calls for police assistance and response; acts as a primary Dispatcher when appropriate; performs a variety of general support duties related to police communications; completes a wide variety of general clerical duties.

Examples of Duties:

The Dispatcher I duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Typical Qualifications:

A combination of education and work experience including 2-3 years of general office work involving typing of varied materials, public contact, general filing and basic record keeping; type at least 40 wpm net.  Knowledge of business English, spelling; modern office practices and procedures; record keeping. The City of Orinda Parks and Recreation Department seeks qualified individuals with the passion and desire to work with youth campers as a summer Camp Counselor (Recreation Leader) in the Parks and Recreation Department.   This position takes direction from the Camp Director and Camp Coordinator (Recreation Program Specialist) and reports to the City's full-time Recreation Coordinator.

INTERVIEWS:  In-person group interviews will occur on Monday, April 13 from 4:30 - 6:30 pm OR Wednesday, April 15 from 4:30 - 6:30 pm.  Please be prepared to attend one of these pre-set interview times.

MANDATORY TRAINING:  Must be available for paid training on Saturday, May 30, 2026

SUMMER CAMP SEASON:  Must be available for summer camp season June 1 - August 7, 2026

WORK HOURS:  Work hours vary depending on the number of staff and youth participants.  Approximate work hours are Monday through Friday 8:45 am to 4:00 pm and Extended Care from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm.

Essential Duties:

Camp Counselors (Recreation Leaders) are assigned to the summer day camp programs working with children ages 3 1/2 to 12 years old.  They assist, plan, organize and lead the physical, recreational and social activities of assigned recreation programs under direction of the Camp Director (Recreation Program Specialist) and the Recreation Coordinator.  

• Bring energy and enthusiasm to the camp environment every day.
• Safely and appropriately supervise campers at all times.
• Plan and lead arts, crafts, games and sports according to the theme of the week.
• Serve as a mentor and role model to campers by modeling positive behavior at all times.
• Use positive discipline with campers and communicate effectively with parents and guardians.
• Effectively collaborate with fellow camp staffers and Parks and Recreation Department staff.

Minimum Qualifications:

All City of Orinda employees are expected to uphold and exhibit the City’s core values including serving the public, being respectful and accountable, maintaining professionalism, and demonstrating responsibility.

Education: Must have completed at least ninth (9) grade by the start of camp.  Coursework in recreation, sports, administration, human development, education or related field is preferred.  

Experience: Recreation, athletics and/or education experience is desirable.  Experience teaching and/or working with children and youth age twelve (12) and under is preferred.

Licenses/Certifications: CPR, First Aid, and AED training and/or certification are required prior to the first day of camp.  There will be a CPR, First Aid and AED training on the May 30, 2026 Training Day.

• A valid work permit issued from school (if under age 18 and have not graduated from high school or received a State Certificate of Proficiency).

THE POSITION: 

The City of San Rafael is recruiting for a Police Officer. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Must possess a California P.O.S.T. Certified Basic Law Enforcement Academy Certificate. Candidates must have completed the P.O.S.T. Basic Academy.  Note:  In conformance with P.O.S.T. regulations, applicants separated from active law enforcement in excess of three years must repeat the State Basic Training Standards and would not be considered for appointment on a lateral entry basis.   

Candidate must be high school graduate or its equivalent.  Completion of 45 semester (or equivalent quarter) units from an accredited college or university is preferred.  Prefer candidates with bilingual skills.
