The City of San José Information Technology Department seeks an experienced City Information Security Officer (CISO) to lead cybersecurity Citywide initiatives.
 
The CISO will direct the Cybersecurity Office as the City’s principal executive leader for information and systems security. In partnership with the Chief Information Officer (CIO), they will manage risk identification, protection and compliance, threat detection, incident response (IR), and recovery services for all City departments to ensure business resilience.
 
The City’s CISO must be able to apply expertise in security strategy, cybersecurity frameworks, managing staff and vendor services, leading incident management, and optimizing resources to achieve desired security outcomes.
 
Key responsibilities include but not limited to:

• Lead and mentor the Cybersecurity team, offering expertise and support to foster growth and a collaborative environment. 
• Collaborate with business units and solution providers to provide optimal security measures and achieve a balance between sustaining business operations and achieving security compliance.
• Coordinate with stakeholders within the City and partners/vendors outside of the City to ensure information and systems meet the City’s standards for threat identification, protection, and risk detection.
• Develop, operationalize, and enhance the City’s cybersecurity strategic plan, programs, policies, and architecture, including vulnerability, risk, and threat management programs through remediation.
• Conduct training programs to educate City personnel on relevant security best practices, foster diligence, and ensure compliance.
• Provide expert security guidance to City departments and officials in service planning, procurements, contract negotiations, vendor management, and project management.
• Provide expert guidance on regulations and standards (FISMA, FedRAMP, CJIS, PCI-DSS, HIPAA, etc.) the City must meet in providing municipal services, as well as security frameworks (NIST, ISO, IEEE, etc.) to shape City operations.
• Oversee and lead incident management/response processes in coordination with City departments to respond and recover from incidents.
• Resolve security-related audits in partnership with City staff.
• Ensure comprehensive security strategies align with resilience plans and emergency management exercises.
• Oversee vendor relationships and manage the City’s procurement and utilization of cybersecurity products and services across departments.
• Lead the annual Cybersecurity Assessment of the City’s technology infrastructure.
• Provide strategic and operational leadership to address cybersecurity in the City’s emerging Internet-of-Things, smart communities, privacy, and equity through data initiatives. 
• Collaborate with the Digital Privacy Officer to address privacy challenges emerging from new technologies, including AI. 
• Implement governance policies to ensure responsible AI usage across the organization, aligning with ethical standards and risk management protocols. 
• Support the GovAI Coalition’s initiatives to promote responsible and safe use of AI in government.

What You'll Do

Key Responsibilities

• Inspect public works and capital projects – including streets, storm drains, sidewalks, grading, and related infrastructure – for compliance with plans, specifications, codes, and safety standards

The Department:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum Education Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major work in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.

Minimum Experience Requirements:

Four (4) years experience with real-time energy management systems involving development, implementation, and management.

Acceptable Substitution:

Additional qualifying experience may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required education, up to a maximum of four (4) years.

License/Certifications:

Possession of a valid California Class C driver’s license is required at time of appointment and for the duration of employment.

Desirable Qualifications:

• Experience with Remote Terminal Units (RTU’s), microprocessor based relays, Distributed Network Protocol (DNP), and ABB Network Manager – S (SPIDER) Energy Management Systems (EMS), VM Ware, virtualization, SAN/NAS storage, and IBM Blade Centers is highly desirable.
   
• Experience using Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems is highly desirable and may be required depending upon assignment.

• May be required to work unusual hours and weekends in the performance of their duties and  be available on an “on call” basis.

The City of Newark is seeking an Urban Forest Supervisor for the Public Works Department. The Urban Forest Supervisor leads the City’s forestry and landscape maintenance programs. This role blends strategic planning, technical expertise in tree health, and hands-on project management to ensure a safe and well-maintained urban environment.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

• Participates in the preparation of the operating budget for the landscape and tree program; participates in the forecasting of additional funds needed for materials and supplies and gathers cost estimates as directed. 
• Provides skilled and technical direction on care, maintenance, disease prevention, and removal of trees; plans inspection and maintenance of all trees in appropriate cycles; assigns priorities and special projects as needed.  
• Inspects work sites before, during and after completion of work to assure that required work is completed in a satisfactory and thorough manner; inspects work sites, equipment and tools for compliance with safety standards; and inspects and approves work done by outside contractors. 

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

• Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent, and four (4) years of increasingly responsible experience in landscape and tree maintenance, including two (2) years of lead responsibility or other qualifying higher level public works maintenance experience.

Licenses and Certifications

• Possession of a Qualified Applicator Certificate issued by the State of California.
• Possession of certificate as a Certified Arborist from the International Society of Arboriculture.
• Possession of a valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record throughout employment.

About the Position: The Planning Department is seeking TWO interns who are interested in learning about open space and planning for ecologically sensitive public recreation. Their responsibilities may include researching and compiling project information, supporting community and stakeholder engagement, assisting with environmental review and documentation, researching new programs and initiatives, conducting field surveys and data collection, and using computer-based systems such as GIS, Microsoft Excel and Adobe Illustrator for analysis of data and preparation of documents related to Midpen programs, lands and facilities. The interns will work as a team and individually on assignments, including opportunities for field work to gain experience in data collection techniques and tools and on-the-job training in project management, planning research, analysis, and written communication.  For additional information about the position, see the Job Description on our website. Working Conditions:  This position will report to the Planning Department at the Administrative Office in Los Altos, California.  Midpen offers a hybrid office/telecommute work environment for this position, which will be divided between onsite work, field visits, and limited home office work.  The selected individuals will be required to work a minimum of three days on-site per week, and assignments may vary between field and office work. Field work is conducted in rural or mountainous Midpen open space areas, which may involve working alone or with another intern in wildland areas, traversing rough difficult terrain sometimes with poison oak and dense vegetation, and carrying equipment weighing up to 25 pounds. This is a temporary position working 20 – 40 hours per week (within regular business days/hours). Regular business is conducted Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00am to 5:00pm. Interns may work up to a total of 950 hours over a 6-to-9-month period. This is a non-benefited position.

Applicants are required to possess a valid California Driver’s License, be legally authorized to work in the U.S and be at least 21 years old at time of swear-in. All applicants must possess a strong moral character, as well as good work ethic and maturity. All candidates will be required to undergo comprehensive testing processes to determine their physical and mental suitability for a career in Law Enforcement.

The Police Officer Trainee is a temporary employee.  The trainee attends a P.O.S.T. certified academy.  Upon successful completion of the academy, the trainee will be eligible for appointment to the position of Police Officer.  New Police Officers will receive benefits available to regular employees and will serve an 18-month probationary period.

The Newark Police Department is a modern, progressive law enforcement agency with 59 sworn and 27 professional staff employees. Well qualified officers enjoy specialty assignments and promotions based upon training and experience. State of the art safety equipment, including, individually issued patrol rifles with sighting systems, Ballistic Helmets, Smart Phones and an Armored Rescue Vehicle.

Numerous specialty assignments, most with premium pay incentives, to include: Detectives, Field Training Officer (FTO), Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT), Traffic Division, School Resource Officers (SRO), Major Crimes Task Force, K-9, S.W.A.T. Team, Crowd Management Team (CMT), Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) Team, Honor Guard, Firearms Instructor, Use of Force Instructor, and Taser Instructor. Officers enjoy either a 3/12 or 4/10 work week, depending on assignment.

We were incorporated in 1955 and have a five member City Council/Manager form of government. Our city is approximately 13 square miles with a population of just under 50,000.
