GENERAL INFO  

Under general supervision, the Recreation Leader I/II positions provide essential support to recreation programs and services by performing custodial tasks, event setup and teardown, program and administration support, and minor maintenance duties at various facilities, including parks and community centers. This temporary, part-time position requires working an average of 10 to 20 hours per week, but no more than 999 hours per fiscal year total. The roles involve ensuring the facilities are clean, safe, and operational while delivering excellent customer service. Performs other duties as assigned. 

UNIVERSAL POSITION DUTIES (Illustrative purposes only)  

• Organize, inventory, and maintain facility materials and equipment.  
• Supervise teams/groups of other program staff or volunteers under the direction of Supervisor.  
• Assist in organizing and supervising recreational programs in any one or more of the following areas: children, adults, senior citizens, and participants with special needs at playgrounds, community centers, and other recreational areas.  
• Open, close, and secure facilities, including locking gates and setting alarms.  
• Set up and tear down tables, chairs, and equipment according to event/program requirements.  
• Perform light maintenance and cleaning tasks to ensure facility safety and upkeep.  
• Enforce policies, maintain discipline, and provide customer service to patrons.  
• Monitor and report facility issues and potential hazards.  
• Assist with special events and activities as needed.  
• Respond to and resolve patron inquiries and complaints.  
• Participate in safety training and emergency procedures.  
• Monitor facility rentals and provide customer service as needed.  
• Lift and move, routinely and regularly, up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lifting and/or moving over 60 pounds. Duties also include repetitive pushing; crawling; and prolonged periods of standing, lifting above the shoulders, working off a ladder, manual dexterity, and maintaining good vision and hearing.

SERVICE DESK (Illustrative purposes only)  

• Greet patrons, answer and direct calls, and provide information on programs, services, schedules, rules, and policies.  
• Open/close the facility and monitor for safety, cleanliness, and proper use.  
• Check daily facility schedules, program and services setup requirements.  
• Use computer systems for data entry and registrations.  
• Assist patrons with registration processing and POS transactions.  
• Handle office tasks including deliveries, organization, mail distribution, and information sharing.  
• Support office inventory management for supplies and equipment.  
• Participate in safety training and emergency procedures.  
• Assist facility attendants and support programs, services, and events as needed.

FACILITY ATTENDANT (Illustrative purposes only)  

• Greet patrons, and provide information on programs, services, schedules, rules, and policies.  
• Organize, inventory, and maintain facility materials and equipment.  
• Open, close, and secure facilities, including locking gates and setting alarms.

• Oversee and guide program staff in their daily duties, ensuring high standards of supervision, engagement, and participant safety. 
• Assist in planning, organizing, and scheduling program activities to create a balanced and enjoyable experience.
• Address behavioral issues and manage group dynamics and foster a positive environment for participants and staff.
• Enforce safety protocols, emergency response procedures, and monitor the physical and emotional well-being of all participants. 
• Serve as a liaison between camp counselors/program staff, families, and City Staff, addressing concerns and maintaining effective communication. 
• Oversee staff tasks, support logistical operations, and ensure adherence to camp policies, health, and safety regulations.
• Model positive behavior, establish rapport with families, and maintain accurate program records. 
• Mediate participant disputes, assist camp counselors/program staff with behavior management, and provide ongoing support and assistance to staff, participants, and volunteers. 
• Communicate program updates and recommend improvements for materials and equipment.
• Ensure familiarity with and readiness for all emergency procedures and other tasks as directed by Supervisor.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess a valid State of California driver’s license and demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with individuals from diverse backgrounds. This position requires the ability to work independently while receiving direction from a supervisor, as well as the capacity to train, oversee, and collaborate effectively with volunteers and older adults. Strong attention to detail is essential, including the ability to maintain accurate records and submit documentation as required. Proficiency with computers, including experience using Microsoft Word and Excel, is required. Upon hire, the candidate must successfully obtain a State Food Handler Safety Certificate and pass all required background checks. A bilingual pay differential may be available for candidates fluent in identified languages.  Must be available Monday-Friday 10:00am-2:00pm.

Recreation Program Specialist Example Duties:

• Follow reservation protocol/procedure for patrons.
• Review menu provided by caterer, submit nutritional component breakdown to County for grant compliance, and prepare flyers for patron.
• Submit documentation/information associated with County nutrition grant to supervisor.
• Schedule and implement nutritional education for seniors and in-service training for staff and volunteers.
• Serve as liaison with caterer, grant provider and staff/volunteers.
• Implement food safety practices as outlined by the Health Department.
• Prior nutrition experience is desired, but not required. Training will be provided.

Sausalito Parks and Recreation is Seeking Vibrant Skilled Recreation Leaders 

This recruitment is for spring, summer and fall events and activities beginning March 9th, such as Bocce and Volleyball Referee, Jazz and Blues, Fourth of July, Chili Cook-off, A Toast to Sausalito, Halloween and other fun classes, activities, and events. Ideal candidates will be available to referee Monday through Thursday each week and/or to staff events on Friday evenings from June through August and occasional Saturdays. 

Pay: $16.90 - $17.90/ Hr.

The City of Sausalito is recruiting part-time temporary help for the spring, summer, and fall seasons of recreation activities and City-wide events.  The first of these is the Bocce League referee.  

Bocce Referee
As a Sausalito Parks and Recreation Bocce Referee, you are responsible for set-up, management, and cleanup of scheduled Bocce matches. You are the enforcer of rules, an impartial judge, and an advocate for fun and fair play, all while maintaining a positive attitude and providing a friendly environment when communicating with teams and keeping score. This position reports directly to the Recreation Supervisor.  The ideal candidate must meet all minimum requirements as listed below and be confident and capable of dealing with conflict and intense games.  

Event Staff

As a Sausalito Parks and Recreation Event Staff member, you are responsible for actively participating in set-up, cleanup, and management of your assigned event.  You must arrive on time and remain until the event leader releases you after the event.   Event staff may set up chairs, tables, stages, corridors, and barriers.  You may be asked to perform traffic control or direct drivers to parking.  The ideal candidate will have a can-do attitude, meet all of the minimum requirements below, remain calm under pressure and in the face of adversity, be cheerful, friendly, and love the diversity of people. 

The minimum requirements for the position are:

• Reliable transportation to and from games or events
• Ability and commitment to arrive on time and remain until duties are completed and you are released
• Confidence and capability to manage conflict with grace and calm
• Commitment to long hours, days, evenings, or on weekends depending on the assigned event schedule
• Must be 14 years of age or older and must obtain a WORK PERMIT if under 18
• Able to work independently
• Excellent people skills
• Strong ability to follow directions
• Ability to lift and carry 25lbs

This is a casual part-time position under general supervision will work in the Burlingame Community Center to support its operations.

Ideal Candidate

DEFINITION 

As a Building Attendant, you will be responsible for the daily upkeep and maintenance of the Burlingame Community Center, ensuring a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for all occupants. This role requires a hands-on individual with excellent attention to detail and strong communication skills.

Hours: (Average 10-20 hours per week). Hours depend on rentals and special events. Shifts may include, but are not limited too:

Monday-Thursday: 2:30pm-9:15pm

Friday: 2:30pm-5:30pm
Saturday/Sunday: 7:30am-1:15pm
Saturday/Sunday: 12:45pm-5:30pm
As needed: Private rentals as late as 2:00am. Shifts will vary week to week. There is no set schedule.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  (include but are not limited to the following)
Opens and closes the building, provides excellent customer service, and maintains a clean, safe, and welcoming environment. Performs regular cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning windows and mirrors, restocking and sanitizing restrooms, emptying trash and recycling, and wiping down surfaces. Assists with event and class setup and takedown of tables, chairs, and equipment, operates audiovisual equipment, and ensures renters follow facility policies, completing final walk-through reports as needed. Staffs the front desk to greet visitors, answer questions, answer phones, take messages, and process registrations and sales.

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILLS:  
Knowledge of: Operation of a community center; department rules and policies; availability of current classes; basic mathematical functions; janitorial work (including but not limited to: glass and wall cleaning, dusting, trash pickup, restroom clean up, emptying of trash cans, cleaning of kitchen, etc.).

Ability to: Work independently, learn quickly, perform heavy manual labor; work extremely well with others, including customers, staff, contractors, and volunteers; explain policies and procedures clearly and concisely; read and understand English;

Skills: Ability to use office equipment including copy machine, calculator and personal computer, and keyboarding skills.

QUALIFICATIONS: (The following are minimal qualifications necessary for entry into the classification.)
Education and/or Experience:
Sufficient experience and education to perform the above duties, which is typically obtained through sufficient maturity to perform these duties in a trustworthy manner.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL, AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Perform heavy manual labor, including bending and stooping; ability to explain recreation programs and policies with tact; calmly deal with difficult people and with people of different cultures.  Minor analysis of situations and adopting effective courses of action.

Benefits

Healthy Workplaces/Healthy Families Act of 2014 Paid Sick Leave Benefit. This benefit accrues at the rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked to a maximum benefit of 24 hours per year. There is no cash value associated with benefit.

Vacation Pay. This benefit is for part-time casual employees who work 30 or more days within a year from the beginning of employment with the City of Burlingame, and accrues at the rate of one hour for every 52 hours worked to a maximum benefit of 16 hours per year.  No employee shall be allowed to have an accumulation of more than two years’ worth of vacation accrual to their credit at any one time.

No other benefits are offered. This position is at will and is not part of the City's Civil Service System. There is no guarantee of hours and employment may end at any time.
