DEFINITION

Account Clerk I: Under supervision, perform clerical work of moderate difficulty in connection with preparing, maintaining or checking financial or statistical records; receive and receipt money; operate office accounting machines; do related work as required.

 

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

Cashier

The Cashier receives and receipts cash payments and maintains daily files of validated documents; balances transaction and prepares cash reports daily; does responsible clerical accounting work in maintaining financial records, recording and checking financial transactions, and preparing financial or statistical statements or reports; batch balances cash from various City entities; organizes money and sets up daily starting cash drawer; computer posts utility transactions as required; maintains the Petty Cash Fund; answers customer inquiries on account status using computer equipment; issues various parking permits and maintains related files; store, issues, and controls vehicle ignition keys for City pool cars, and records and reports mileage/usage; types routine documents; and assists with various Utility Billing Division activities as required.

 

Utility Billing Division

Either manually or through the use of computers, as appropriate, does responsible clerical accounting work in the maintenance of financial records, recording and checking financial transactions, and preparing financial or statistical statements or reports; interacts with residents through phone, email, and in person; receives and receipts money; prepares records to open, change, maintain or close utility accounts; performs routine arithmetical computations; opening, sorting, and processing mail; operates adding machines; does routine typing of documents and precise computer data entry of financial data.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Knowledge of: 

Account Clerk I level: Methods, principles, and terminology used in financial clerical work; and modern office practices.

Ability to:  

Perform clerical work of average difficulty; prepare basic financial reports, maintain journals, ledgers, and complex files; operate adding and calculating machines; perform arithmetic computations rapidly and accurately; interact positively and cooperate with co-workers, respond politely to customers, work as a team member, function under demanding time pressure, respond in a positive manner to supervision, and attend work and perform duties on a regular and consistent basis.

Experience:

Account Clerk I:  One year of clerical experience involving financial record keeping and general office work; six (6) months of experience using computer spreadsheets is desirable.

San Mateo Medical Center (SMMC) is seeking an experienced Patient Services Specialist (PSS) - Extra-Help.
 
The successful hire will support the clinical team with all registration, eligibility, enrollment, authorization, other administrative tasks, and Admission, Discharge, and Transfer (ADT) activities for SMMC. The PSS serves as the ambassador for SMMC to validate information and educate our patients and guests with the financial process upon arrival to the facility. The PSS verifies all demographic information, validates eligibility, obtain authorizations, collects co-payments, assist with all payor notifications and communication, and enroll patients if needed. The hire will be expected to work holidays and rotating weekends, if needed, to support department needs.
 
The ideal candidate for this position will possess excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain complex medical terminology and medical insurance requirements to individuals with varying levels of medical knowledge. Additionally, they should have strong skills in conflict resolution and problem-solving.

The ideal candidate will also be able to collaborate effectively with the clinical team, work with challenging patients, and assist those who may have language or communication barriers. This position requires keen attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to multi-task. Furthermore, the ideal candidate must be flexible and available for various shifts throughout the week.

NOTE: This is an extra-help, at-will assignment, paid on an hourly basis. Extra-help hours are dependent on the business needs of the department and therefore work hours may vary from week to week. Extra help employees shall not exceed 1,040 hours of work per fiscal year. Some extra help positions are eligible for benefits under the Affordable Care Act. Extra help employees are not guaranteed permanent status at the end of the assignment.

• Check the Patient Access work queues daily to identify accounts that may need immediate attention and resolve them appropriately. 
• To be willing and able to work holidays, if needed, to support the department needs.

Qualifications

In addition, Physical Therapists identify patient challenges and develop goals and a care plan with reasonable outcomes for the individual's life/work settings. Daily opportunities are created in this assignment through the variety of illnesses/injuries seen in our patient population.

Physical Therapists work at SMMC as part of a County rehabilitation program, which provides evaluation, education and treatment. The therapeutic program at SMMC is oriented toward inpatients and outpatients with acute and chronic problems while providing therapy to inpatients with a need for long or short-term rehabilitation.

The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of one year of work experience providing care in an outpatient setting with an interest in covering inpatient when the census justifies. Qualifications

Licensure/Certification:

• Eligibility for or registration as an Occupational Therapist by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy. Failure to obtain this licensure within twelve months of employment may result in termination.
• Possession of a Certificate of completion for a course in Basic Life Support as approved by the American Red Cross or American Heart Association; or must be obtained within six months of appointment.

Education and Experience:
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is:

Occupational Therapist II: One year of supervised experience in occupational therapy.

Knowledge of:

• Principles and methods of occupational therapy, as applicable to all types of cases found in a general hospital providing acute care or in a rehabilitative center.
• Physical and psychological problems of physically disabled, aged, gero-psychiatric and chronically ill patients.
• Principles of splint design and fabrication.
• Use and care of therapeutic tools and equipment commonly used in occupational therapy.
• Professional ethics and the fundamental laws of practice for occupational therapy.

Skill/Ability to:

• Administer and document occupational therapy treatments.
• Assess patient needs, analyze situations accurately and implement an effective plan of action.

San Mateo Medical Center is seeking an experienced Surgery Scheduling Specialist for a Full-Time, Extra-help position for the Surgery Department. The Surgery Scheduling Specialist provides technical, complex and specialized administrative support to surgeons and patients scheduled for surgery, which includes interaction with operating room staff and patients; handles multiple competing priorities; interacts with diverse customer groups; handles multiple patient-related tasks such as tracking patient financials to ensure information is correctly entered; and moves patients from the clinic to the operating room, including all pre-operative processes necessary for the patients prior to surgery, pre-op process sheets and clinic schedules, data entry of items into the operative database, financial reconciliation, and post-op order sets, and may have some responsibilities for ordering supplies or equipment.
 
The ideal candidate for this position will possess excellent communications skills, including the ability to communicate complex medical terminology to a variety of people with varying levels of medical knowledge. In addition, they would possess skills in conflict resolution, and problem solving. The ideal candidate will have the ability to work with challenging patients, and patients who may have a language or communication barrier. This position will require attention to detail, and therefore the ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task.
 
NOTE: The ability to speak, read and write in fluent English and Spanish is preferred for this position.
 
 Duties for this position may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Tracking patient financials to be sure they are correctly entered.
• Scheduling patients in the procedure clinic.  
• Updating the pre-op process sheet and clinic schedule in the computer.
• Entering data into the operative database.
• Interfacing between the Operating Room and Surgeon.
• Ability to schedule patients using the OR manager program.
