MAINTENANCE ASSISTANT I

This is a temporary part-time position:  Approximately 20-40 hours per week depending on the needs of the department.

THE POSITION: Under close supervision, perform unskilled manual and semi-skilled manual park maintenance work, and perform related work as required.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

• Cleaning restrooms, emptying garbage cans
• Removing weeds and trash from parks
• Assist in mowing, edging, pruning, fertilizing, and seeding
• Perform a wide variety of general grounds and facility maintenance work including raking leaves, cleaning walkways, removing debris, cleaning restrooms, and related work.
• Water, weed, prune, renovate, and landscaped areas.
• Turf care including mowing, thatching, fertilizing, plugging, and installation of new turf areas.
• Prepare soil and plant flowerbeds, shrubs, and landscape areas, including staking, fertilizing and other necessary procedures.
• Utilize a wide variety of hand and power tools and landscape maintenance equipment.
• Move and install park and recreation equipment.
• Assist in loading, transporting, and unloading equipment, materials, debris, and other heavy objects related to maintenance.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The incumbent should have the ability to read, write, and carry out oral and written directions, maintain cooperative work relationships, and operate various park maintenance equipment. Individuals must possess a valid California Driver’s License and a good driving record (recent DMV printout required). This is seasonal work which will include weekends and holidays depending on the needs of the department.

THE POSITION:

The City of San Rafael is recruiting for the position of Police Cadet (3 positions available).  This is an excellent job opportunity for students interested in law enforcement.  Under direct supervision, this fixed-term/limited term, civilian position provides general and specific information and assistance to the public.  The position also provides logistical assistance to all police department functions.  The primary assignments for the Cadet position are crime prevention, patrol support, and records/front office support.

DEFINITION: Under general supervision from Preschool Instructor(s) and the Recreation Supervisor, the preschool aide assists in planning, organizing, and implementing preschool programming for children ages 2-5 years old in a range of classes from introductory drop-off preschool classes to Kindergarten preparedness preschool classes. Program hours are M-F PM 8:30am – 1:00pm. Approximately 20– 23 hours a week. Preschool aides must be willing and able to both take direction from the Preschool Instructor and work independently when fulfilling tasks. Substitute and on-call positions also available.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

• Assists in the development, coordination, planning, implementing and supervising the day-to-day activities, themes and special events for an ongoing preschool program.

• Create and maintain a safe, nurturing, and creative environment.

• Supervise and engage preschool students during preschool program hours.

The City of Newark is currently accepting applications for Police Officer Trainees - Entry Level and Academy Attendees. 

THE POSITION:

The Police Officer Trainee position is an entry level position, requiring no prior law enforcement experience. Applicants are required to possess a valid California Driver’s License, be legally authorized to work in the U.S and be at least 21 years old at time of swear-in. The Police Officer Trainee is a temporary employee.  The trainee attends a P.O.S.T. certified academy.  Upon successful completion of the academy, the trainee will be eligible for appointment to the position of Police Officer.  New Police Officers will receive benefits available to regular employees and will serve an 18-month probationary period.

The Newark Police Department is a modern, progressive law enforcement agency with 59 sworn and 27 professional staff employees. Well qualified officers enjoy specialty assignments and promotions based upon training and experience. State of the art safety equipment, including, individually issued patrol rifles with sighting systems, Ballistic Helmets, Smart Phones and an Armored Rescue Vehicle.

The position requires excellent judgment, initiative, independence, integrity, organizational skills, flexibility, and written and verbal communication skills.  

Event Services Representatives assist in monitoring and providing customer/client support for special events. Event Services Representatives maybe required to provide technical assistance and set up of equipment on day of event, assist in resolving customer issues and complaints, and respond to emergency situations during events. The on-site Event Services Representative coordinates with event staff such as ushers, ticket takers, security, crowd control, outside contractors, and performs facility safety checks which may include enforcing Safety and Fire Marshall Regulations.  

Due to the nature of the job responsibilities, Event Services Representatives must be able to:  

• Work extended/irregular hours including nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed. 

• Stand and/or walk for extended periods of time. 

• Lift and carry items weighing between 25 and 50 pounds on an as needed basis. 

• Comprehend verbal and written instructions. 

• Prepare event reports.
