PAL (Police Activities League) Program Attendants work in the formal Suisun City classification of Recreation Specialist I. Starting hourly rate will depend on qualifications. This position works on average 19 hours per week.

The City of Newark is seeking an energetic and committed Associate Civil Engineer to perform professional civil engineering work related to the planning, review, design, construction, inspection, and coordination of a variety of public works projects. 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

• Meet and confer with developers, contractors, engineers and the general public relative to city policies, regulations, and procedures.
• Attend Development Review Committee meetings on designated entitlement projects and present and coordinate Engineering issues with other City departments.

• Prepare staff reports, as well as presentations for City Council, and other legislative bodies; respond to the public and other inquiries orally and in writing.

• Develop Requests for Qualifications (RFQs) and participate with other department staff in the selection of consulting engineers.

• Serve as Project Engineer on Public Works capital improvement projects and transportation engineering tasks as needed.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:

• Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering or a related field. 
• Three (3) years of civil engineering experience, including one year of lead responsibility. 
• Registered as a licensed Professional Civil Engineer in the State of California.
• Possession of a valid driver license and a satisfactory driving record throughout employment.

The Challenge

As a Police Officer your duties will typically include patrolling assigned areas; interacting with the public; conducting criminal investigations; enforcing laws; investigating collisions; preserving the peace and writing reports. You will be assigned to one of three shifts spanning the 24-hour day and these shifts will periodically change. In the Patrol Section you will work three 12 hour and 20-minute workdays and have four days off. If you are assigned to any other Section, you will work four 10-hour workdays with three days off. The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Forestry Climber in the Parks, Recreation and Waterfront Department! In this role, you will have the opportunity care for and maintain trees throughout the City. You'll climb trees of various heights using belts, lines, and similar equipment, and you will use a variety of hand and power tools to prune, trim, and shape street and park trees.

You'll also help keep our parks and streets safe by removing dead or broken branches, clearing street lights and overhead wires, and removing stumps and roots. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is:

Equivalent to graduation from a high school and one (1) year of skilled experience in tree climbing, topping, trimming and maintenance of a wide variety of very tall shade and park trees.

Other requirements: Must possess and maintain a valid California non-commercial (Class C) driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record. Must obtain and maintain a valid California Commercial (Class B) driver's license by the end of the probationary period and maintain a satisfactory driving record. Must be willing to work in tall trees and out of doors in all weather conditions. Must possess sufficient strength and stamina to lift and carry objects weighing up to 75 pounds and sufficient agility to perform job duties while working in tree tops or from ladders or hydraulic buckets.

The Ross Valley Sanitary District is seeking a motivated Collection System Worker willing to learn new skills and work with cutting edge technology to join our team!

Collection System Workers operate and maintain sanitary sewer infrastructure while providing excellent customer service to the Ross Valley community.

ABOUT THE POSITION

CSWs perform a variety of skilled - journey level work and manual labor in the operations, maintenance, and repair of sewer lines and related mechanical, hydraulic and hand-operated equipment. Collection System Workers are on a 9/80 schedule - Monday through Thursday from 6:00 am to 3:30 pm, with Fridays alternating between 6:00 am -2:30 pm and off work. All Collection System Workers also work on a rotating “on call” basis.

SAMPLE DUTIES OF THE CSW CLASSIFICATION INCLUDE:

• Participate in inspecting, cleaning, maintaining, constructing, and repairing of wastewater collection systems utilizing a variety of mechanical and specialized equipment including, but not limited to, rodders, CCTVs, high velocity cleaners, vacuum trucks, construction equipment, and related equipment.
• Perform a variety of manual tasks such as lifting and carrying heavy loads including material, equipment, and debris with assistance and utilizing equipment when appropriate.
• Inspect, troubleshoot, and maintain proper collection system operation using techniques and instruments including, but not limited to, closed‐circuit TV, smoke testing, dye testing, and related procedures.
• Participate in the removal and restoration of concrete and paved surfaces using a wide variety of construction equipment, hand and power tools.

• Conduct daily inspections of vehicles, hand tools, and equipment, perform lubrication and minor operating adjustments to ensure proper operation of vehicles, hand tools, and equipment.

• Observe all safety precautions as required by regulatory agencies and the District; including using personal protective equipment and following hazardous communication policies and procedures.
• Participate in confined space entries including, but not limited to, atmospheric monitoring, hazard mitigation, and appropriate safety procedures.
• Respond to and investigate service calls or complaints concerning such matters as sewer odors, sewer trouble, and sewer back-ups, and make the necessary corrections.
• Participate in and, upon passing District criteria, direct the spill stoppage, containment, and cleanup of emergency situations and wastewater spills, including occasional 24/7 on-call duty as Primary or Secondary Stand-by.
• Perform a range of activities related to locating and marking sanitary sewer infrastructure and underground utility lines using a variety of equipment.
• Communicate and interact with the public, local government, and other utility personnel in a courteous, professional manner.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Completion of the twelfth grade, or its equivalent.
• Two years general maintenance and construction experience
• Valid California Class "C" Driver's License
• Must have a satisfactory driving record and continue to meet District vehicle liability insurance company driving standards.

To be considered for the CSW II classification, two years of collection system maintenance and operations is required.

Licensing, Certification, and Registration:

This is a non-sworn, civilian training classification to be used while incumbent is attending a certified P.O.S.T. Basic Police Academy.  Incumbent in this classification receives the same employee benefits as Police Officers, with the exception of being placed in the “Miscellaneous” retirement category until successful completion of a designated police academy, and as a civilian employee, will not be covered by government code sections 4850 and 3300 through 3311.  Upon successful completion of an academy, incumbent shall be sworn as a Police Officer, placed in the safety retirement category and begin an 18-month probationary period as a Police Officer on the date of swearing in.

The Department

The Human Services Department (HSD) delivers and supports services by forging long-term community partnerships, engaging with and building the capacity of the community to do its own problem-solving, and leveraging financial and volunteer resources.

The Position

The Program Coordinator will provide supervision and oversight of the Fremont Family Resource Center (FRC) Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA). In addition, this position will be responsible for overall FRC communications, marketing, and event planning. This position will be required to work a varied work schedule which will include weekdays, evenings, and Saturdays.

Examples of Job Duties

• VITA program design and implementation. Duties include, but not limited to:
  • Ensure VITA site compliance as outlined by the IRS.
  • Manage and update calendaring system.
  • Manage day-to-day operations of VITA site(s) to include set-up (moving furniture, setting up laptops and printers, preparing food, clean-up, and washing dishes). Must have the ability to lift up to 50 pounds with help from other staff.
  • Meet with VITA coaches to develop, coordinate, and deliver training curriculum.
  • Maintain program documentation and write reports.
  • Recruit volunteers and attend county-wide meetings as appropriate.
