ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Redwood City’s Library Department –  Downtown Library – is looking for energetic, enthusiastic individuals who enjoy working with customers of all ages in a challenging and fun environment, and who are interested in working year-round, 10-15 hours per week including day, evening, weekend, and assigned holiday hours.

Typical duties may include but are not limited to the following: Check in library materials; assist with sorting and shelving library materials; assist customers with use of computers, databases and web searches; troubleshoot computers and printers; perform minor cleaning; and other related duties as assigned.

Position Summary

Under general direction of the Director of Transportation for the Bus Transit division, contributes to the mission of Golden Gate Transit by ensuring that Golden Gate Transit has the best possible trained Bus Operators. Instruct Bus Operators for safe operations of vehicles, uniform compliance, and enforcement of District rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Document Bus Operator Students’ performance. Must be willing to work shift assignments from Santa Rosa, Novato, San Rafael, or San Francisco Division locations. May be assigned to perform other duties.
 

Essential Responsibilities

• Conducts training class for newly hired bus operators, including obstacle course, classroom and “over the road” instruction by delivering standardized curriculum.
• Develops classroom curriculum, including itinerary, lesson plans, training and testing materials and implement training for newly hired and existing bus operators.
• Acts as designated D.M.V. examiner in the testing and certification of bus operators; or coordinates with D.M.V. to get student operators V.T.T. cards and license conversations.
• Maintains complete and accurate documentation on every facet of training and testing for each student as required and mandated by state and federal governments.
• Performs individual evaluations of student operators progress in the training program.
• Conducts ongoing Verification of Transit Training Classes for existing bus operators and other commercially licensed employees who need to maintain a V.T.T.
• Supervises Bus Operators fitness -for -duty as they report to work, including observing for divergencies from normal behavior patterns, uniform appearance, grooming and possessions of driving credentials and medical card.

• Works with the Director of Training and Safety on compliance with D.O.E., D.O.T., and D.M.V. training and documentation requirements
• Develops and implement minimum standards for bus operator trainees.
• Monitors progress of trainees and provide periodic counseling and progress evaluation.
• Conducts refresher training for bus operators returning to work after extended absence.
• Testifies on training or related fields at bus operator hearings, arbitrations, or trials.

• Re-trains bus operators as directed by disciplinary hearings on accidents or rule violations.
• Evaluates new equipment and changes in existing equipment and prepare data to be used as instruction criteria. (This material is distributed to bus operators when training on this equipment) outlines and checklists.

• Compiles and maintain "Training Subjects Manuals."
• Obtains and maintain appropriate certifications.
• Works with appropriate staff in the recruiting and selection process for bus operators.
• Works with passenger relations and planning department to provide ADA training for persons with disabilities.
• Represents GGT as necessary and assist in the structure and the presentation of the annual Regional Bus Roadeo.
• Instructs and monitor operation of G.F.I farebox and radio systems.
• Observes and monitor safe operation of vehicles by riding with operators, contact and correct operators on safety procedures.
• Issues infractions and/or discipline for violations of safety policy and procedures.
• Ensures employees under their supervision follow established safe work practices and obey all safety rules.
• Performs driver safety observations by riding on board buses or observing from a moving vehicle or fixed location and provide written reports on these observations; and issues discipline for safety violations observed.
• Knows and follows the safety and health rules and safe working practices applicable to his or her job.
• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with District employees, customers, vendors, and all others contacted during the course of work using principles of excellent customer service.
• Performs additional related duties as assigned.

THE POSITION: This limited term position supports the Youth and Family Services Bureau (YFSB) in the Police Department to strengthen and enhance services provided to Hayward families to keep youth positively engaged in the community and out of the juvenile justice system. The Lead Program Assistant works with YSFB mental health counselors to provide case management, life skills training, diversion, restorative justice, and other services.
The limited term position is dependent on ongoing funding for the program. Funding has already been secured through FY2026 (June 30, 2026) with the possibility of an extension or permanent funding in FY 2027.

The Lead Program Assistant is a Citywide classification; current vacancies exist in the Police Department however future citywide vacancies may be filled from this recruitment. You are:

THE POSITION:

This is a division head management position at the Hayward Executive Airport, reporting to the Airport Manager. The incumbent is responsible for the management of the business and accounting functions at the airport and provides second-line supervision and direction of staff within the Airport Division. This position is distinguished from the Airport Operations Supervisor classification which is responsible for the direct supervision of staff performance of Airside and Landside operations and maintenance tasks at the airport. ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Redwood City’s Library Department –  Redwood Shores Branch Library and Schaberg Branch Library – is looking for energetic, enthusiastic individuals who enjoy working with customers of all ages in a challenging and fun environment, and who are interested in working year-round, 10-15 hours per week including day, evening, weekend, and assigned holiday hours.

Typical duties may include but are not limited to the following: Check in library materials; assist with sorting and shelving library materials; assist customers with use of computers, databases and web searches; troubleshoot computers and printers; perform minor cleaning; and other related duties as assigned.

Under direction of the Deputy City Manager, the Recycling and Solid Waste Program Manager plans, organizes, directs and participates in the administration of multiple integrated solid waste management contracts and programs within the City Manager’s Office; represents the City and provides staff support for a variety of intergovernmental committees, subcommittees and authorities.

 

CLASS CHARACTERISITICS:

The Recycling & Solid Waste Manager performs complex and politically sensitive tasks including functioning as the City’s integrated waste program expert.  Appropriate judgment is essential to this position, as incumbents are expected to use professional judgement and skills in establishing relationships working with regulatory agencies, other cities, franchised service providers, local businesses, and community groups.  Strategic thinking is also essential to this position, including the ability to see emerging trends and develop strategies to succeed in a changing environment.  Community sensitivity and awareness are crucial to this position, including gauging community reaction to new fees and programs, and being able to effectively communicate to a very culturally diverse community. Creativity is paramount in developing and implementing effective Recycling & Solid Waste Program marketing and public information programs, preparing grant applications, and developing new programs to increase the level of community recycling and materials re-use.

 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (illustrative only):

• Managing the City's exclusive franchise contract(s) for residential garbage, recycling and organic (i.e., yard and food scrap) waste collection/disposal, commercial garbage collection/disposal, and private-sector contracts for materials transfer and recovery, and long-term disposal.
• Administering contracts including developing requests for proposals, overseeing the bidding process, recommending selection of providers, preparing contracts, policy development, negotiation and administration of the contract, reviewing revenue and expenses pertaining to collection and processing agreements, monitoring performance and regulatory conformance, resolving customer service issues, monitoring service providers for compliance with contracted level of service, and other contractual obligations.
• Prepares and administers the Recycling & Solid Waste (RSW) Program budgets; manages budgets to ensure appropriate spending and recording of expenditures, including tracking the status of associated RSW Special Funds and RSW Program grants.
• Managing the RSW Program's recycling programs including planning, organizing, and implementing programs and projects designed to encourage business, citizen, and public participation in waste reduction, recycling, pollution prevention, and composting, and maximizing efficiency and material recovery.
• Managing the RSW Program's public education, marketing and outreach program for RSW Program functions, and preparing, coordinating, implementing, and participating in public events which support RSW Program service objectives.
• Establishing and maintaining relationships with the press and other media, and community groups, organizations, and agencies, for publicizing, sponsoring and promoting RSW Program programs and events.
• Representing the City at the Alameda County Waste Management Authority (ACWMA), including Alameda County Recycling Board and Authority Board meetings and reporting significant issues to the City Manager in a timely manner; participating in County Waste Management Authority Technical Advisory Committee meetings; preparing and making presentations to the ACWMA and Recycling Board as required.
• Conducting resident and business surveys related to the RSW Program.
• Preparing a variety of data analyses on waste stream quantities and overall program elements, including cost analyses of programs, in conjunction with ACWMA and State programs and mandates.
• Providing reports to State and Regional authorities on integrated solid waste program results.
• Participating in the development of solid waste, waste reduction, recycling, and pollution prevention policies, which comply with regulatory mandates.
• Analyzing proposed regional, state and federal legislation affecting solid waste management.
• Recommending revisions of existing programs to meet new/changing needs.
• Preparing reports and documents for City Council study sessions and meetings; making presentations to City Council, other boards and commissions, and public groups.
• Providing staff-support and/or representing the City with a variety of committees, commissions, community groups, and the general public.
• Receiving and responding to customer service requests concerning scope of program, technical information, and service delivery issues.
• Developing proposals to obtain county, state, and federal grants; implementing and administering grant programs.
• Planning, assigning, supervising, and reviewing the work of professional and/or support staff; participating in the recruitment and selection of RSW Program staff.
• Facilitating communication, consensus building and resolving conflicts related to MSR Program projects and policy matters by conferring with, facilitating and conducting meetings with elected and appointed officials, other City departments, members of the public, and neighborhood organizations; participating in developing and conducting citizen involvement/public participation events to explain MSR Program policies, procedures, and proposed regulations and policies; and developing and conducting demonstration projects, workshops and other training events.
• Maintaining internal and external customer relations by using tact and diplomacy in all interactions with customers; establishing and maintaining positive and effective working relationships with co-workers and those contacted in the course of the work; and coordinating with departments and outside agencies.
• Maintaining attention to detail by prioritizing work and coordinating several activities simultaneously despite interruptions.
• Maintaining integrity of work by taking responsibility and accountability for completion of work and customer interactions and maintaining punctuality and attendance at work.
