About the Department 

The Library and Community Services department is responsible for providing excellent customer service through recreational, educational, and cultural programs for children, adults and seniors. Our facilities include 221 acres of parkland distributed among 13 parks, two libraries, two community centers, two public pools, three childcare centers, two gymnasiums, and one gymnastics center. Included in the parks and recreation areas are tennis and pickleball courts, dog parks, softball diamonds, picnic areas, playgrounds, soccer fields, a skate park, shared use of a performing arts center and open space.  The City of Menlo Park opened a state-of-the-art new facility that incorporates a community center, gymnasium, aquatics center, senior center, youth center, and branch library in May 2024.

The Bay Area Air Quality Management District (Air District) is a regional government agency, committed to achieving clean air to protect the public's health and the environment. The Air District accomplishes this goal through regulation of industrial facilities and various outreach and incentive programs designed to encourage clean air choices. 

The Air District's jurisdiction encompasses all of seven counties - Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara and Napa, and portions of two others - southwestern Solano and southern Sonoma.
 
The Air District is currently accepting applications for the position of Air Quality Engineer I/II in the Air Quality Modeling and Analysis (AQMA) Section of the Assessment, Inventory, and Modeling (AIM) Division. This is an open recruitment for one (1) full-time, represented vacancy position.
 
 DEFINITION
 
Under direction, performs professional engineering work in a variety of areas such as permit application evaluation, calculation of air pollutant emissions, toxic risk screening and health risk assessment evaluations, compliance audits and source testing; performs related work as assigned.
 
 DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
 
 Air Quality Engineer I is the entry-level class of this series. Initially under close supervision, incumbents perform a variety of routine air quality engineering duties while learning District policies and procedures and specialized air quality knowledge. With experience, the work becomes increasingly more diversified and difficult and requires increasing independence of judgment. This class is alternately staffed with Air Quality Engineer II and incumbents may progress to the higher level after gaining experience and demonstrating proficiency which meet the qualifications for the higher-level class.

Air Quality Engineer II is the journey level in this series. Incumbents perform a variety of difficult air quality engineering work and exercise a greater latitude of independent judgment. This class is distinguished from Senior Air Quality Engineer in that the latter is the specialist level and performs the more complex air quality engineering duties and provides lead direction to engineering staff.

About the Division

The Assessment, Inventory, and Modeling (AIM) Division prepares comprehensive source emission inventories for the Bay Area and conducts air quality modeling at both regional and community scales. AIM prepares technical assessments that evaluate equity in air pollution exposures and health impacts in support of Air District programs. AIM coordinates and implements programs to improve and report estimates of emissions of criteria pollutants, toxic air contaminants, and climate forcing pollutants. AIM assesses emissions, modeled concentrations, and exposures of toxic air contaminants, particulate matter, ozone and their precursors, to support targeted strategies that reduce impacts of air pollution both regionally and within communities, especially in impacted communities requiring action plans in accordance with Assembly Bill 617 (AB617). AIM reviews and provides guidance on environmental health risk assessments within environmental review documents prepared pursuant to California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).

San Mateo Consolidated Fire Department

What You’ll Do

• Interpret and enforce provisions of fire prevention and fire safety laws, ordinances, and other regulations.
• Perform periodic inspections of new and existing buildings, structures and installations requiring fire clearances; identify fire hazards; recommend corrective actions; perform follow-up inspections to see that corrective actions have been taken.
• Investigate complaints pertaining to violation of fire prevention laws, issue correction orders as necessary.
• Investigate fires; secure fire scenes; identify types of fires; investigate causes of fire; collect, prepare, and present evidence; interview witnesses and suspects; write fire investigations; testify in court when required.
• Provide information to the public concerning the fire prevention practices and procedures; develop and conduct training programs and group presentations relative to fire prevention and fire investigation.
• Instruct fire suppression crews about code interpretation and inspection techniques regarding fire prevention.
• Draw and prepare diagrams of buildings for pre-fire planning and fire inspections.

Full-Time Head Preschool Teacher at Belmont Community Learning Center

$59,475.84 -$72,293.28 annually

Are you looking for an exciting new opportunity to work in a well-established preschool?  The City of Belmont is recruiting for a Full-Time Head Teacher who will lead and provide a safe, enriching, and challenging learning environment for children aged 2-5 years old at our licensed preschool program, the Belmont Community Learning Center.  

In this full-time role, you’ll be the lead for our 2–3-year-old classroom, helping our youngest learners grow through play, learning, and exploration. You’ll create a safe and engaging space, support toilet training and diapering, and build meaningful connections with children and families. Depending on program needs, your work hours will be either 7:30 AM–4:30 PM or 9:00 AM–6:00 PM.

What We’re Looking For:

You’re someone who understands:

• Child development milestones, especially for ages 2–5

• Title 22 California Childcare Licensing regulations

• Basic health, hygiene, and first aid practices for preschoolers

What You’ll Do:

• Welcome children and families daily with warmth and professionalism

• Lead planning and hands-on implementation of age-appropriate curriculum and play-based activities

• Support children through toilet training and diapering routines

• Monitor indoor/outdoor play, guiding positive interactions and resolving conflicts

Training:

• Must have or be able to maintain valid CPR and First Aid certification (renewed every 2 years)

• Preventative Health and Safety Certificate strongly preferred

Requirements:

• All childcare employees must pass City of Belmont background check, which includes but is not limited to the Department of Justice fingerprinting scan and FBI clearance
   
• Must pass a health screening and TB test

Cashier

The Cashier receives and receipts cash payments and maintains daily files of validated documents; balances transaction and prepares cash reports daily; does responsible clerical accounting work in maintaining financial records, recording and checking financial transactions, and preparing financial or statistical statements or reports; batch balances cash from various City entities; organizes money and sets up daily starting cash drawer; computer posts utility transactions as required; maintains the Petty Cash Fund; answers customer inquiries on account status using computer equipment; issues various parking permits and maintains related files; store, issues, and controls vehicle ignition keys for City pool cars, and records and reports mileage/usage; types routine documents; and assists with various Utility Billing Division activities as required.

Utility Billing Division

Either manually or through the use of computers, as appropriate, does responsible clerical accounting work in the maintenance of financial records, recording and checking financial transactions, and preparing financial or statistical statements or reports; interacts with residents through phone, email, and in person; receives and receipts money; prepares records to open, change, maintain or close utility accounts; performs routine arithmetical computations; opening, sorting, and processing mail; operates adding machines; does routine typing of documents and precise computer data entry of financial data.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of: 

Account Clerk I level: Methods, principles, and terminology used in financial clerical work; and modern office practices.

Ability to:  

Perform clerical work of average difficulty; prepare basic financial reports, maintain journals, ledgers, and complex files; operate adding and calculating machines; perform arithmetic computations rapidly and accurately; interact positively and cooperate with co-workers, respond politely to customers, work as a team member, function under demanding time pressure, respond in a positive manner to supervision, and attend work and perform duties on a regular and consistent basis.

Experience:

Account Clerk I:  One year of clerical experience involving financial record keeping and general office work; six (6) months of experience using computer spreadsheets is desirable.

Education:  Graduation from high school or equivalent.
