Qualifications:

Must be at least 15 years old and have the ability to obtain a work permit, if under the age of 18. Applicants must have completed and passed the Lifeguard Training class that includes CPR, and AED by June 1, 2025. WSI (Water Safety Instructor Certification) is highly recommended.

Lifeguard Job Responsibilities:

• The primary responsibility of a lifeguard is to protect lives by using their skills to prevent injury among patrons. This duty does not only include rescuing drowning victims or administering CPR and first aid. Being alert and proactive also helps to prevent dangerous situations from ever occurring in the first place.
• Enforcing the rules fairly and consistently is a close second major duty and could even be considered to be a part of patron surveillance. Help the patrons to keep themselves safe by monitoring and putting an end to dangerous behaviors.
• Maintenance and cleaning tasks are also part of the lifeguard’s duties. These can include monitoring chemical levels in the pool, picking up trash and organizing equipment, or inspecting the facility for unsafe conditions.

Swim Instructor Job Responsibilities:

• The swim instructor is responsible for instructing swim lesson participants in a variety of swim levels.
• This position is also responsible for the safety of the participants in their own class.
• Work hours as scheduled which includes beginning and ending class on time; remaining after class to answer participant and/or parent questions as needed and clean up supplies.
• Instructs and evaluates students participating in swim lessons.
• Submits completed report cards, skills sheets, and attendance information on time.

Position Summary:

Minimum Qualifications:

• At least one year of experience in fitness instruction, personal training, or a related field preferred.  

• Experience in group instruction and one-on-one training is highly desirable. 

Knowledge and Skills:

We are seeking two clinic managers who will operate under the general direction of the Deputy Director of Ambulatory Care. The clinic managers plan, coordinate, direct, manage, supervise and evaluate the full range of programs and services offered at the community-based health clinics; recommend, develop, implement and evaluate goals, objectives, policies and procedures related to clinics; provide leadership and coordination to community groups, public and private agencies, advisory boards and volunteers in planning and implementing clinic services; and provide highly complex staff support to senior-level management. The clinic managers also lead and participate in complex performance improvement activities; develop systems to track the progress of strategic initiatives, departmental operational goals, and communicate progress in key forums; develop productive relationships with labor partners while navigating operational needs and developing and sustaining effective employee engagement processes. The clinic managers exercise direct and indirect supervision over a diversified clinical and support staff team.

The ideal candidates will have working knowledge of clinic operations, particularly in outpatient clinics that offer primary care, adolescent care, and pediatrics, as well as in budgeting and scheduling. Examples Of Duties

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Plan, direct, monitor, coordinate and evaluate the operations and service delivery programs of a regional health clinic or clinics, including needs assessment, program design and planning, implementation, evaluation, and regulatory enforcement.

• Direct, coordinate, and participate in the development and implementation of program goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and priorities that balance both mandated services and community health care needs.

• Consult with other program managers on relevant program issues; develop alternative strategies for dealing with community health needs and assist in the implementation of solutions as necessary.

• Act as advocate and spokesperson in the community in support of programs and services; interpret, explain, and direct the enforcement of community health-related standards, codes, and regulations.

• Provide highly complex staff assistance to senior-level management and related commissions and advisory boards on program issues.

• Prepare a wide variety of detailed written reports, policies, procedures, and contracts.

• Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is:

• Three years of administrative or managerial experience in a healthcare delivery, social, or community services organization, including significant responsibility for one or more of the following: program and budget development, program service delivery, funding, utilization, coordination of community resources, or program evaluation.

The City of Burlingame is looking for an On-Call Librarian I/II to join our team!  There are currently openings in the Children's Services and Adult Services departments.  Candidates may use the supplemental questionnaire to indicate if they would like to be considered for Children's Services, Adult Services (Reference) or both.  Hours and shifts will vary depending on department staffing needs.

The Librarian I classification is an entry-level position; the Library II classification is the experienced, journey-level position requiring a higher level of experience and training. The Librarian I/II can be filled at either level depending upon qualifications and experience.

For Children's Services:

This position includes working nights and weekends, as needed.  Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

• Providing reference and reader’s advisory to children, teens, and parents at the Children's Desk, which requires extensive knowledge of children's literature.
• Planning and conducting programs for children including story telling, book talks, and films to encourage reading, viewing and listening and use of library materials and facilities.
• Compiling lists of materials of interest to children.
• Organizing and conducting class visits for preschool and elementary age children to encourage reading and use of library materials and facilities.
• Planning and preparing exhibits, book lists and displays using creative marketing techniques to promote the library’s collections and services.
• Utilizing library computer systems and databases.

For Adult Services:

This position includes working nights and weekends, as needed.  Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

• Serving at an information desk; research and respond to reference questions by phone, in person, or electronically.
• Assisting patrons in use of library collections through reference interviews, database, and web searches, reader’s advisory, and instruction in the use of the online catalog, computer software, and other technology that is used in the library.
• Maintaining current knowledge of materials, resources at BPL and throughout Peninsula Library System and refer patrons as required. 
• Promoting library services to generate increased usage.
• Responding to patron complaints and problems.
• Performing other related duties as assigned. 

Education and Experience
Education: A Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program required.

Experience: At least one year professional experience working in a library setting is preferred.  Knowledge of the Peninsula Library System and Sierra ILS  is desirable. Successful public contact experience in a library setting; knowledge of automated systems; basic library reference materials including on-line databases and the Internet; reference interview and research methods; and knowledge of library systems. 

Essential Qualifications
Knowledge of: Effective written and oral communication techniques; active listening skills; effective presentation expertise. 

Ability to: Establish rapport with patrons and staff and respond to their requests and comments in an open, objective, and straightforward manner; clearly interpret library policy; tactfully communicate with patrons and staff with differing opinions; mediate difficult situations and suggest appropriate avenues for resolution; maintain a positive flexible attitude; learn the operations, functions, policies and procedures of the Burlingame Public Library, including Branch operations; work day, evening and weekend schedules; search online databases; assess community needs and interests to anticipate future library needs and trends; plan and develop library services and resources based on community needs; foster teamwork and open communication; effectively supervise and motivate subordinate staff; maintain thorough knowledge of different literary genres and age-level materials and be familiar with reader’s advisory tools. 

Skills: Demonstrates creative problem-solving and sound decision-making abilities; recognizes and effectively sets priorities in planning and organizing work; demonstrates a working knowledge of standard and specialized adult and children’s reference and bibliographic resources, both in print and electronic format; demonstrates working knowledge of the Dewey Decimal System and LC subject headings. 

Licenses: Possession of a Class C, California Driver’s License for branch work and school visits. 

Experience: Successful public contact experience; knowledge of automated systems; basic library reference materials including on-line databases and the Internet; reference interview and research methods; and knowledge of library systems. Experience working with children and adults in a library setting is desirable. Knowledge of the Peninsula Library System and Sierra system is highly desirable. 

Physical, Mental and Environmental Working Conditions: Ability to stoop, bend and crouch to retrieve materials and books; lift and/or move books or other materials weighing up to 50-pounds; push/pull carts up to 150 pounds; sit, stand and walk for long periods of time; talk and hear well enough to communicate with patrons; use hands to finger, handle, or fell objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands or arms. 

Work indoors in a library setting, including extensive work at a PC monitor.  Extended periods of standing are required in some instances.

The Foster City Police Department is seeking a dedicated and highly skilled individual to join our team as an Police Dispatcher. This position receives police and emergency calls and dispatches police units following prescribed procedures; answers non-emergency calls for public safety and other City departments; performs a variety of general administrative support duties including record keeping, typing, and filing; and performs related work as required.

Education and Experience:
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:  

Education: Possess a high school diploma or a G.E.D. 

Experience: One (1) year of work experience involving public contact which involved using good judgment, tact, and effective written and/or verbal communication skills.

It is desirable, but not a requirement, that the applicant for this position have the ability to type no less than 40 net words per minute. The typing certificate must but be certified and dated within the last 12 months of application.

License or Certificate: 

• Verification of successful completion of the POST Entry-Level Dispatcher Selection Test Battery Examination with a minimum passing “T-score” of 50 or higher within the last 12 months.

Selection Process
Applications will be reviewed for relevant education, experience, training and other job related qualifications. Based upon a review of employment applications received, a limited number of the qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the examination process. 

The process will consist of an Oral Panel Interview. An eligibility list will be established from those who pass the examination process with a score of 70% or higher. The Role:

The City of Redwood City is seeking Firefighter/Engineers who are licensed paramedics. Under direction of the Fire Captain, the Firefighter/Engineer will perform firefighting and fire prevention duties aimed at protecting life and property, operate and maintain firefighting equipment, and provide basic medical assistance.  Firefighter/Engineers also provide Advanced Life Support first responder pre-hospital emergency medical care and emergency medical assistance, perform minor station maintenance, and participate in training to maintain skills.  Please see the Firefighter/Engineer job description for more details.

Required Qualifications:

Experience and Training Guidelines:
A typical way to demonstrate the applicant possesses the required knowledge and ability may be obtained through the following ways:

1. Two years (2) of full-time firefighting service.
2. Possession of a California State Fire Training Firefighter I certificate is required.
3. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver’s license.
4. Must have a valid Paramedic License from the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians and will need to obtain San Mateo County Paramedic accreditation prior to completing probationary period.

Required Certification and License:

1. Must possess a valid Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certificate or valid Paramedic license.
2. Provide proof of a valid Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) certificate.  CPAT must be valid and completed within the last 12 months.
3. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver’s license.  Driving record will be reviewed and any infractions will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

Knowledge of:

• Basic life support

Ability To:

• Act in accordance with departmental policies, rules, and instructions in the field of firefighting.
• Apply principles practices and procedures of modern firefighting.
• Safely operate fire apparatus, equipment, tools, devices, facilities and use properly.

• Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, squat, stoop, reach, crawl, twist, climb, lift and carry in excess of 100 lbs.; pull and/or drag 175 lbs.; work in the following environments: cold, extreme heat, extreme noise, outdoors, confining work spaces, elevated areas; work with electrical hazards, vibration, chemicals, dust, toxic waste, mechanical hazards, and explosive materials; availability for shift work.
