The Newark Recreation and Community Services Department is looking for Aquatic Instructors (Swim Instructors) for our fantastic swim lessons and aquatic programs, to work at the Silliman Activity & Family Aquatic Center. $18.08 - $18.99  -  $19.93 -  $20.93 -  $21.96 per hour.  This is a part-time position, paid sick leave benefit available. Initial appointments are generally made at the first step of this five step scale.  Hours will range from 15-25 hours per week.  Candidates that make the eligibility list may be selected for shifts as needed throughout the year.  Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays throughout the entire year.

SELECTION PROCESS:

Applications will be screened and a limited number of the most qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the examination process, which may consist of an oral panel interview, department interview, or in the form of a practical demonstration of skill and ability, or any combination of these.  A passing score of 70% is required to make the eligibility list.   Recommendations for appointment from this list will be made to the Recreation Supervisor, who will make the final decision.  Depending on the number of applicants, this process may be altered.  Prior to appointment, a background check, including fingerprinting for submission to the Department of Justice must be completed, as well as TB screening.

PROGRAM LEADER (SPORTS AND FITNESS)

Salary Range: $17.37 to $23.15/hour, DOE

This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefitted position; 15-20 hours per week (not to exceed 950 hours per calendar year); predominantly afternoon/evening schedule, some weekends.

DEFINITION

The Town seeks gym monitors, scorekeepers, and leaders for a variety of youth and adult sports. Sports may include, but are not limited to basketball, softball, and bocce ball. Sports knowledge is preferred. All staff will be cross-trained for multiple sports. CPR/FA certification is recommended but not required.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Program Leader receives supervision from the Program Coordinator and/or Program

Assistant.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

Essential duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Scorekeeping and gym monitoring.
• Completing program score sheets, reports, and timesheets according to deadlines.
• Attending monthly staff meetings.
• Various tasks related to the implementation of sports programs.
