THE DEPARTMENT:

The City of San Rafael Sanitation District's mission is to protect the public health and the environment through proactively planning and operating a fiscally responsible and safe wastewater collection system.  Our crew of eight maintains 32 pump stations, 13 miles of force main, and clean 132 miles of sewer pipelines.  This collection and transportation system then delivers wastewater for treatment to the Central Marin Sanitation Agency.  

THE POSITION:

The City of San Rafael Sanitation District is seeking a Sewer Maintenance Worker I/II (TWO positions available).  Under general supervision, the employee performs a variety of manual and semiskilled tasks involved in the maintenance, improvement and operation of the City's sewage pumping stations and gravity sewer lines.

• Operates light power driven, hand held and "walk behind" equipment and uses shovels, rakes, other hand tools, jackhammers, dump trucks in the performance of assigned duties.
• Performs manual and semiskilled work in flushing, clearing, maintaining sewer and storm drainage, pipelines, culverts, force mains, and pumping stations.
• Performs or assists in starts, stops, inspects, lubricates and adjusts pumps, valves, motors, drive shafts,  universal joints and flow rates at pumping stations.
• Performs or assists in taking chemical samples and adjusts rate of chemical flows.
• Performs or assists in removing and replacing pumps, motors, valves and related, and performs repairs.  May rebuild components on a limited basis.
• Performs or assists in excavation and repair or replacement of sewer gravity lines.
• Places traffic barriers and warning signs and directs traffic as necessary.
• Assists in the orientation and on-the-job-training of new employees.
• Assists in notifying residents of sewer system work which may affect their lines, and cooperates with other agencies on repairs.
• Assists in emergency Public Works repairs and maintenance including work in other sections of the Department.
• Performs related duties as required.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skill, and ability outlined in the job description is:

Level I:

• Sufficient formal and/or informal education to provide the necessary reading and communication skills; AND
• Some prior experience in street maintenance work that would include mechanical and hydraulic repair of pumps, gates, valves, pipelines and related.

Level II:

• Equivalent to graduation from high school.
• Two years of increasingly responsible experience in the operations and maintenance of Public Works sewage pumping stations and gravity sewer lines, equivalent to the Sewer Maintenance Worker I classification at the City of San Rafael.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Within one year of hire as a Sewer Maintenance Worker I, must possess a valid California Driver's License with a tank endorsement to drive the vactor in a training capacity.
• Level II:  Must possess a valid California Class "B" license and have a satisfactory driving record
• Level I and Level II:  Must be willing to work underground, in confined places, in and near bacterially contaminated liquids, and in exposure to unpleasant and potentially hazardous conditions. 
• Level I and Level II:  Must be willing to work overtime and on call as needed for emergency repairs.

ABOUT THE POSITION
The City of Gilroy is currently recruiting for a full-time Systems Administrator to join the Information Technology Division within the Finance Department. About the Position:  The Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (Midpen) Seasonal Ranger Aide is an entry-level position, which provides the opportunity to learn and perform some duties of a ranger under the guidance of experienced ranger staff.  Ranger Aides provide visitor information and assistance, travelling by non-emergency Midpen vehicles and on foot throughout an assigned geographical region. Ranger Aides perform a variety of customer service duties such as educating and informing the public about Midpen land use regulations, public relations and provide general information services, but do not have law enforcement authority.  Ranger Aides will assist with routine maintenance work on Midpen land and facilities and may respond to assist with emergency calls. Schedules:  This is a full-time position. Employees are expected to work full-time (40 hours during the work week); however, school schedules may be accommodated around regular days/hours of operations.  Weekend work (Sat/Sun) is required, with two consistent days off each week (either Mondays/Tuesdays off OR Thursdays/Fridays off), depending on the field office operational needs. Incumbents will work an 8-hour workday (plus a 30-minute unpaid meal break). Daily start and end times will be the same for most workdays, typically scheduled within the range of 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Must be willing to work weekends, nights, holidays, or extended shifts and work with exposure to difficult circumstances, including exposure to challenging situations and upset individuals. Seasonal assignments will not exceed 950 hours or 7 months, whichever comes first, and do not include benefits.

 

Working Conditions: Most work is outdoors within Midpen’s open space lands with exposure to inclement weather conditions. This requires the ability to patrol on foot, off trail, and in rugged terrain.  Also requires the ability to perform related emergency services and maintenance and construction work on Midpen lands. Once trained, Ranger Aides may work alone for parts or all of their shifts. Must wear prescribed District uniform and adhere to strict safety procedures and work habits.

ABOUT THE POSITION
City of Gilroy is currently recruiting for a full-time Senior Maintenance Worker position assigned to the Wastewater section within the Utilities Department, Operations Division. 
Wastewater section personnel are responsible for the wastewater collection system including inspecting, cleaning, maintaining, constructing, and repairing sanitary sewer lines and lift stations. Under direct supervision of the Operations Services Supervisor, this position performs and supervises maintenance work within the Wastewater section and acts for the supervisor in his/her absence or direction. 
The selected professional will develop leadership skills by supervising team members in the field while performing tasks such as sewer repairs, line cleaning, and closed-circuit television inspections. They will also gain experience in scheduling and planning work based on departmental priorities, supporting the supervisor, and learning to operate both independently and as part of a team.

Overview:

Under general supervision, this role assists in the planning, design, and validation studies of the advanced water treatment facility (AWTF) and the distribution of product water. Key responsibilities encompass the development of water quality testing plans, validation of treatment processes, provision of technical support for design, piloting, operational planning, monitoring plans, ensuring regulatory compliance with DPR regulations, managing Reverse Osmosis Concentrate, and aiding in the integration of purified water into the current water supply and distribution system.

The Associate Engineer additionally acts as a technical liaison for the Water Supply Outreach team-evaluating outreach materials for precision and conducting tours of the Silicon Valley Advanced Water Purification Center for stakeholders and community organizations. The incumbent would also assist the R&PW Unit in its ongoing collaboration with the District Financial Planning & Management Services Division regarding State and Federal grant and loan applications. In addition, the incumbent would assist in the development of agreements for the PWSV. This position is essential for the implementation of the Pure Water project and ensuring that Valley Water achieves its long-term recycled water objectives while securing community backing and regulatory consent.

• Supporting the R&PW Unit in enacting a robust communications plan for outreach and associated strategies for promoting water reuse and also technical tours at SVAWPC and continued proactive communication with key parties-consumers, elected officials, regulators, advocacy organizations, media outlets, utility staff- before, during, and after PWSV project development and continued leadership for the purified bottling and taste-testing efforts.
• Support the R&PW Unit in its continued coordination with the District Financial Planning & Management Services Division on State and Federal Grant and Loan applications.

• Experience in preparing long-range planning studies, technical presentations, engineering cost analysis/reports, technical memorandums, master plans, and feasibility studies.
• Experience reviewing and contributing to engineering design documents, construction submittals, RFIs, and change orders.

Recycled and Purified Water Unit (Position Code 443)
Valley Water Telework Program: Eligibility for telework will depend on the type of work performed, operational needs, and the ability for the employee to perform the essential functions of their job duties while teleworking. Employment with Valley Water requires employees to live within 150 miles of their primary physical work location located in San Jose, California by their start date. 

 

This position is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule, typically working 40% remote and 60% onsite.

These positions, depending on facility assignment, will require working various shift hours and overtime.
