The City of Thousand Oaks is seeking a Senior Purchasing Specialist to join our team!

We are seeking an enthusiastic, service-oriented team player who thrives in a busy, fast-paced environment. As part of the Finance Department’s Purchasing Team, the Senior Purchasing Specialist will perform a variety of functions in supporting the City’s purchasing policies and processes.

 Primary responsibilities:

• Receives, examines, analyzes, and processes purchase requisitions and purchase orders according to City and department policies and procedures; ensures that information is correct and documentation is complete; corrects errors as necessary
• Reviews formal solicitations such as bids and requests for proposals/qualifications (RFP/Q) and posts formal solicitations on City’s procurement portal
• Reviews and facilitates informal solicitations for departments
• Trains City staff on purchasing policies and processes
• Oversees the maintenance of solicitation records, commodity/sub-commodity lists, and other purchasing and inventory files
• Negotiates, manages, and monitors Citywide contracts
• Oversees the maintenance and validation of vendor account information
• Oversees the City’s purchasing card (Cal-Card) program
• Oversees the City’s centralized cellphone and smart device program
• Oversees the transfer of disposal of surplus property
• Resolves inquiries and concerns from employees, vendors, and the public
• Generates a variety of financial reports for Accounting and Budget staff

The Policy Advisor for Public Safety is responsible for tracking and shaping policies related to law enforcement, emergency response services, probation, juvenile justice, and criminal justice reform. The Advisor works to ensure that public safety systems in District 1 are rehabilitative, transparent, equitable, and aligned with community needs. This position reports to the Director of Policy. 

Key Responsibilities:

• Monitor board items and legislative actions related to the Sheriff’s Department, Probation, District Attorney, and emergency response.
• Draft board letters, amendments, talking points, and constituent updates.
• Draft talking points and speeches that communicate the elected’s policies, priorities, and vision to constituents, stakeholders, and community leaders
• Serve as liaison with community safety coalitions, violence prevention groups, and first responders.
• Provide support to the elected at community events coordinating scheduling, logistics, and constituent engagement.
• Conduct research and communicate policy ideas in support of the elected’s legislative agenda.
• Develop strategies that promote rehabilitation, accountability, de-escalation, diversion programs and reduce recidivism. 
• Track jail conditions, behavioral health service integration, and reentry programs.

The City of Simi Valley is seeking a qualified Senior Engineer to join its team. This position offers an excellent opportunity for civil engineers looking for variety, challenge, and meaningful work in public infrastructure.

The Senior Engineer will be responsible for managing complex capital improvement projects, conducting hydraulic studies, and performing advanced technical engineering tasks related to the planning, design, and construction of waterworks facilities. Key responsibilities include preparing plans, specifications, and cost estimates for a range of water infrastructure and public works projects, such as:

• Water main line replacements

• Water tank rehabilitation and replacement

• Pump station upgrades

The Senior Engineer works under the general supervision of a higher-level professional engineer and provides lead supervision to assigned engineering staff, ensuring quality, compliance, and timely delivery of projects.

 

                                 POSITION DETAILS:

• Regular full-time position
• 9/80 work schedule (every other Monday or Friday off)
• Salary range $52.06 to $66.95 hourly with Excellent Benefits (see below)

 

                             MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: 

Education/Training: 

• Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in engineering or architecture with specialized course work related to area of assignment.

Experience: 

• Four years of professional engineering experience related to area of assignment including one year of administrative and/or lead supervisory responsibility.

License or Certificate: 

• Possession of registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of California, or a licensed Architect in the State of California (when assigned to Building & Safety).
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver’s license.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Plans Examiner certificate may be required depending on area of assignment.

This position works under general supervision and is responsible for performing specialized technical engineering activities related to ongoing projects and a variety of office and field engineering work.  

                                 POSITION DETAILS:

• Regular, Full-Time Position
• 9/80 work schedule, alternating Monday or Friday off
• Salary range:
  • Engineering Technician: $30.65 to $39.10
  • Senior Engineering Technician: $33.77 to $43.12

 

                        MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

                                                       Engineering Technician

Education/Training:

• Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by college level course work in engineering, drafting or related area.

Experience:

• Two years of increasingly responsible technical engineering experience.

License or Certificate:

Key Responsibilities:

The Policy Advisor for Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) leads on all matters related to the County’s social services, public health, behavioral health, and child and senior welfare programs. This individual tracks policies, advocates for equitable investments in District 1, and helps design board actions that enhance public health, general welfare, and access to medical care and social support systems. This position reports to the Director of Policy.

Key Responsibilities:

This creative role includes capturing and producing photos and videos, managing graphic design, and overseeing the visual design and functionality of the Supervisor’s website and digital communications. The ideal candidate has strong creative and technical skills and is committed to community-centered storytelling. This position reports to the Director of Communications. 

Key Responsibilities:

• Plan, capture, and edit photography and video content for events, announcements, and social media.
• Design flyers, infographics, reports, and branded materials for public distribution.
• Maintain and update the website's visual layout, graphic assets, and visual consistency.
• Collaborate with the Communications Director and Digital Communications Specialist to ensure brand alignment across platforms.
• Archive and catalog media content for future use.
• Assist with livestreaming, lighting, audio, and other media production tasks at press conferences and events.
• Assist with rapid-response visual content during breaking news, emergencies, or policy rollouts.
