Under the direct supervision of a Recreation Coordinator, the Recreation Leader implements and facilitates well-rounded programs in youth after-school programs, pre-school programs, day camps, sports leagues, and special events at designated recreation facilities. • Initiates and leads defined youth recreation and sports programs.

The City of Brisbane is currently recruiting certified Swim Instructors for our beautiful outdoor aquatic facility. Swim Instructors instruct organized aquatic safety and swim classes with the safety standards and procedures set by the American Red Cross. Swim Instructors may also serve as Lifeguards (if certified), whose duties include patrolling and watching the activities in and around the community swimming pool, enforcing regulations to prevent accidents, and rescuing swimmers in distress. THE POSITION

To monitor City facilities during programs and rentals; to open and close facilities; to set up and take down equipment; to provide information and assistance to the public in person and on the phone; to perform general administrative tasks when assigned; to perform certain custodial duties; to ensure user compliance with policies, regulations, and laws pertaining to facility use; and to perform other duties as assigned. The purpose of this recruitment is to fill current temporary/part-time positions.

Temporary / Part-Time employees work no more than 130 hours per month

AND 960 hours per fiscal year.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

The following are typical illustrations of duties encompassed by the job class, not an all-inclusive or limiting list:

Follow established facility use guidelines, policies, and procedures.  Open and close facilities.  Meet, greet, and monitor facility users.  Act as liaison between facility users and City staff.  Patrol facilities as needed.  Perform facility check-in and check-out as needed.  Provide information and assistance in person and over the phone.  Check availability of facilities upon request by customers.  Assist patrons with enrolling in City recreation programs.  Ensuring users are in compliance with facility rules.  Assist maintenance staff with room setups.  Perform certain custodial duties.  Maintain reports as necessary, like incident reports or vandalism reports.  Use Microsoft Office tools for communication and assignments.  Provide nightly feedback to Supervisor of facility activity.  Perform related duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Age Requirement:  At least 18 years of age

Education:  Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent

Experience:  At least one (1) year of experience in resource management, parks & recreation, or other relevant customer service positions.

License and Certificates:  Possession of a valid California Driver's License is required upon hire.

THE ABILITY TO SPEAK AND UNDERSTAND SPANISH IS A DESIRABLE QUALIFICATION.

BENEFITS

All these positions are temporary/part time. Temporary employees work no more than 130 hours per month AND 960 hours in a Fiscal Year.

The pay cycle is bi-weekly.  Except for worker's compensation coverage and sick leave accrual, no other benefits are provided. Employees must contribute 1.45% of salary to Medicare and 7.5% to a retirement plan in accordance with Federal Law.

DEFINITION: Under general supervision from Preschool Instructor(s) and the Recreation Supervisor, the preschool aide assists in planning, organizing, and implementing preschool programming for children ages 2-5 years old in a range of classes from introductory drop-off preschool classes to Kindergarten preparedness preschool classes. Program hours are M-F PM 8:30am – 1:00pm. Approximately 20– 23 hours a week. Preschool aides must be willing and able to both take direction from the Preschool Instructor and work independently when fulfilling tasks. Substitute and on-call positions also available.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

• Assists in the development, coordination, planning, implementing and supervising the day-to-day activities, themes and special events for an ongoing preschool program.

• Create and maintain a safe, nurturing, and creative environment.

• Supervise and engage preschool students during preschool program hours.

• Demonstrate excellent customer service and communicate effectively with co-workers, parents, and children.

• Maintain registration, attendance, and activity records; ensure the proper pick-up/drop-off of children. 

• Encourage good behavior, appropriate manners, read books and engage with all preschool students. 

• Implement and lead appropriate activities for preschool-aged children.

• Possess strong leadership skills in one or more of the following areas: art, crafts, sports, drama, cooking.

• Motivate children by example; create and maintain a positive environment for all. 

• Must be a team player and have the ability to work independently with minimum supervision.

• Practice proper hygiene, with self and children, to deter the spread of disease (colds, flu, etc).

• Render first aid in case of minor injuries.

• Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing.

• The ability to speak English clearly and understandably.

• Must be able to lift 50lbs.

TRAINING & EXPERIENCE: Any combination of education, training, and experience, which likely provides the required knowledge and abilities.

PROGRAM LEADER (Youth Services/Kids’ Night Out/Kids Day Out Programs)

Salary Range: $17.37 to $23.15/hour (DOE)

Part-time temporary, non-benefitted position; 10 hours per month in Kids’ Night Out Program and Bi-monthly Friday night availability (6-11 pm) required. Additional shifts are available on San Ramon Unified School District days off school, during recreation pop ups, and special events. (not-to-exceed 950 hours per fiscal year). Applicant must be at least 15 years of age and up to apply. 

GENERAL DUTIES

Under the general supervision of the Youth Program Coordinator, Youth Services staff is responsible for supervision and safety within the bi-monthly Kids’ Night Out and Kids Day Out Program, including implementing a variety of crafts, games and activities for youth ages 5 to 11.  As a Youth Services staff member, you will:

• Gain experience leading arts, crafts, games, and activities;
• Serve as a mentor and role model to youth;
• Learn to work as part of a team and lead activities;
• Acquire skills to safely and appropriately supervise youth in a staff-to-youth ratio environment.
• Assist with recreation pop ups and special events
• Other duties as assigned

Specific to Youth Services:

• Plan and execute duties related to special interest classes, school-year and seasonal programs, and special events.
• Serve as a role model and advocate for youth.
• Effectively facilitate and/or lead small and large groups of youth.
• Communicate effectively with youth and their parents.
• Willing and available to work flexible hours as needed.

GENERAL INFORMATION
