Parks and Recreation Projects:

The City of Brisbane is currently recruiting certified Swim Instructors for our beautiful outdoor aquatic facility. Swim Instructors instruct organized aquatic safety and swim classes with the safety standards and procedures set by the American Red Cross. Swim Instructors may also serve as Lifeguards (if certified), whose duties include patrolling and watching the activities in and around the community swimming pool, enforcing regulations to prevent accidents, and rescuing swimmers in distress. SALARY AND HOURS: $19.72 - $20.71 – $21.75 – $22.84 - $23.98 per hour (Part time position - No other benefits are offered. Initial appointments are generally made at the first step of this five-step scale). Hours will range from 20-40 hours per week.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:  Graduation from high school or GED equivalent is desirable.  This provision may be waived for applicants 15 to 18 years of age with ability to obtain a valid work permit.

Experience:  Previous experience as a lifeguard, having worked with youth and WSI certification is desirable.

Special Requirements:  Current Lifeguarding, Standard First Aid, and CPR for the Professional Rescuer certificates are required. Current certifications for this program are not required prior to applying for position.

SALARY AND HOURS:

$18.08 - $18.99  -  $19.93 -  $20.93 -  $21.96 per hour.  This is a part-time position, paid sick leave benefit available. Initial appointments are generally made at the first step of this five step scale.  Hours will range from 15-25 hours per week.  Candidates that make the eligibility list may be selected for shifts as needed throughout the year.  Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays throughout the entire year.

SELECTION PROCESS:

Hiring Process

Tryout Requirements:

• 300-yard continuous swim (freestyle)
• 50-yard Breaststroke
• 50-yard Back Stroke
• 2-minute tread with hands in the armpit
• 10lbs brick retrieval from 10-13ft of water
• 5 enter and exits from the side of the pool (no ladder)

Interviews will be conducted immediately following the successful completion of your tryout.

Step 3: All new employees must attend the Lifeguard Orientation Training on Saturday, June 7

THE POSITION:     

Under the direction of the Pool Manager, the Assistant Pool Manager is responsible for assigned aquatic program areas, and acts as Pool Manager during the Pool Manager’s absence. The Assistant Manager assists in the direction and supervision of the staff and programs at the facility. This is an at-will, intermittent, part-time, hourly position. Work a flexible work schedule, which may include evening, weekdays, weekends and holidays

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Acts as Pool Manager in the absence of same.
• Assist with pool staff assignments and scheduling.
• Perform lifesaving practices and standards according to accepted industry standards.
• Assist with training and supervision of staff and volunteers on assigned duties.
• Meet program goals and objectives, collect and maintain relevant statistical records and data.
• Acts in capacity of pool lifeguard.
• Assist in maintaining on-site security and safety of participants, staff, and others in the pool area, preparation and maintenance of incident records.
• Assist in organization, teaching and evaluation of swim lessons and pool activities.
• Enforce City and program rules and guidelines.
• Assist Pool Manager to monitor correct completion of required paperwork.
• Attend pertinent staff meetings as required during the season.
• Perform other program-related duties as assigned.
