SALARY AND HOURS: $20.61 - $21.64 – $22.73 – $23.87 - $25.06 per hour (Part-time position - No other benefits are offered. Initial appointments are generally made at the first step of this five-step scale). Hours will range from 20-40 hours per week.

Part-Time position: variable hours; evenings and weekends

Pay Rate: starting at $18.13 an hour

Summary:
Under general supervision, performs a variety of custodial tasks and provides oversight of rental groups, in accordance with District policies and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist patrons and prospective participants on the phone and in-person
• Assist permit groups with set-up and breakdown of tables, chairs, and other equipment
• Promptly open and unlock facilities or close and secure facilities as scheduled
• Complete facility condition forms following permit group use and incident reports as needed
• Notify management concerning need for major repairs or additions
• Turn athletic field lights off and on for sports groups
• Sell and scan admission tickets special events and/or theater performances

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

• Sweep floors, vacuum carpets, and dust or polish furniture, fixtures, and equipment
• Wash windows, clean restrooms, replenish supplies, and sanitize high touch areas often
• Empty waste receptacles and remove any trash or debris found throughout facility
• May assist with conducting recreation classes
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty* satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required:

Education and Experience:
Minimum age of 18 years old with a High School Diploma (or GED). At least 250 hours of experience in customer service or a related field preferred.

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to communicate effectively in English in both written and oral form. Ability to write routine correspondence using correct spelling and grammar. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply common sense and exercise good judgement in solving problems. Ability to establish effective relationships with fellow employees, volunteers, and participants and/or parents/guardians.

Certificates and Licenses:

• Proof of negative Tuberculosis (TB) skin test prior to first day of employment
• CA Driver’s License and Proof of Insurance
• Adult and Pediatric First Aid & CPR/AED within 90 days of hire

Supervisory Responsibilities:
The employee may provide guidance or direction to other part-time employees and to volunteers.

Immediate Opening for Per Diem Library Assistant I (Circulation Services)

THE POSITION: The San Mateo Public Library is seeking an energetic individual to provide a wide variety of library support work. Duties include but are not limited to the following: respond to patron in-person and telephone requests for library materials, services and information; check out library materials to patrons; check in and prepare materials for return to the circulating collection; register new patrons; collect overdue fines; assist in order and receiving books, records, periodicals, and other library materials; maintain statistics of library use; handle patron complaints; assist adults and children in locating materials in the library and placing requests for materials not available. This recruitment is for one 15-hour Per Diem Library Assistant I position that supports Circulation Services at each of the three San Mateo Public Library locations. An eligibility list will be created for future openings in this classification.

SALARY AND HOURS: $28.76 per hour (Step 1). Below is the starting schedule for the Per Diem Library Assistant I position that may be changed in the future to meet the operational needs of the library. These positions are currently scheduled at two of the three San Mateo Public Library locations, Main and Hillsdale branches.  Availability at all three San Mateo Public Library branches is required.

ABILITY TO: Learn library practices and procedures, and the location of materials in the libraries; perform a variety of library technical and clerical work with speed and accuracy; assist patrons in the location and  use of library materials; understand and carry out oral and written instructions; speak and write clearly; learn the use of appropriate library automation systems; establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work; work with numbers and alphabet accurately; type at a speed necessary for adequate job performance.

POSITION DESCRIPTION 
 

The City of San Bruno Community Services Departments is hiring for a Library Page position at the San Bruno Public Library. The Library Page position is an entry-level, part-time role with limited benefits. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in playing a key role in the library's daily operations. Candidates must have a flexible schedule and be available to work 14-19 hours per week, including weekdays, evenings, and Saturdays, to meet the library's scheduling needs.

Under the general supervision of library staff, Library Pages perform routine tasks to maintain the organization of the library collections, including the shelving, sorting, and filing of books, magazines, audiovisual materials, and other library materials. Pages also clean and mend library materials, help set-up for various Library programs, assist in the opening and closing of the Library building for public access, and perform other clerical tasks as needed.

This role is physically active and requires regular movement and exertion. The ideal candidate will be comfortable performing physical tasks for extended periods and working in a fast-paced environment. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
 

Knowledge of:
English language usage, spelling, grammar, alphabetization, basic arithmetic, and decimal order. 
 

Ability to: 
 

• Accurately file library materials in both numerical and alphabetical order.

• Perform physical tasks—including standing, walking, bending, squatting, stooping, reaching, climbing stairs, and lifting—throughout the workday

• Handle, lift, and transport library materials (up to 50 lbs), including fully loaded book carts.

• Learn and apply detailed procedures and library organization methods to ensure the timely and accurate completion of tasks.

• Communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.

• Operate library tools and machines safely and efficiently.

• Maintain visual acuity to efficiently locate and shelve materials.

• Work effectively with fellow Library Pages and staff in a team environment.

Definition: Under the supervision and in coordination with the program director, you will help plan curriculum, assist in leading activities, engage with elementary school aged-children and provide guidance for our Afterschool Programs at Old Mill Elementary School in Mill Valley. Program hours are M, T, Th, F PM 2:20pm – 5:30pm and Wed. 1:15pm – 5:30pm Approximately 15 – 20 hours a week.
