ABOUT THE COMMUNITY
Incorporated in 1874, the City of Wheatland is located at the gateway of California’s ‘Mother Lode’ gold rush country, approximately 34 miles north of Sacramento and 107 miles north of San Francisco. Wheatland is one of two incorporated cities in Yuba County. With a population of approximately 4,000, the city’s small-town charm makes it a special place to live and work, with easy access to a variety of recreational, shopping and dining opportunities.

THE ORGANIZATION
The City of Wheatland operates under the Council/Manager form of government. The city is governed by five Councilmembers elected at-large, each serving four-year terms. The City Council appoints the City Manager and City Attorney. The City of Wheatland currently operates with a staff of 28 positions and provides a full array of municipal services including public safety, streets maintenance, parks, water and wastewater utilities, and administration. The city’s total budget for the current year is $11.1 million. 

ABOUT THE POSITION
 Under policy direction from the City Council, the City Manager serves as the chief executive officer for the City; The City Manager plans, manages, organizes and directs the overall administrative activities and operations of the City, develops and implements budget and financial strategies for the City and provides complex administrative support to the City Council. The City Manager develops and recommends policies, procedures, rules, and regulations governing City operations for presentation and approval from the City Council and ensures proper communication and implementation of policy decisions. This position directs the preparation of staff reports and agenda items and ensures that all City Council actions are properly recorded and implemented.

POLICE DEPARTMENT

The Wheatland Police Department is responsible for providing public safety for the city. Services provided by the Police department include uniformed patrol, investigative services, traffic enforcement and administration. Dispatch services are provided under a contract with the Yuba County Sheriff. The Police Department is staffed with 11.5 FTE positions, of which 9 are authorized sworn positions. The authorized department staffing includes 1 Police Chief, 1 Sergeant, 6 Officers, 3 part-time Reserves and 2 non-sworn positions.

ABOUT THE POSITION
Under general supervision from the Police Sergeant, to perform a variety of duties in law enforcement and crime prevention programs; to maintain order and a safe environment for the citizens of Wheatland; to participate in criminal investigations and crime prevention programs; and to provide a variety of duties relative to assigned areas of responsibility.

Education and Experience:

The minimum qualifications for education and experience can be met in the following way:
 

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, geology, environmental studies, or other related science associated with the study of hazardous materials or soil and groundwater contamination;

AND
 

Two years of professional experience performing duties related to the mitigation and control of hazardous materials, including the application of codes and standards.

THE POSITION: 

The Finance Department at the City of San Mateo has an opportunity for an entry level Accounting Assistant I to work in the Accounts Payable section. The Accounts Payable team manages the payment of invoices, expense reimbursements, and credit cards, among other things, for the City as a whole and is part of a team of 18 Finance employees. The Accounting Assistant I will work with the Senior Accounting Assistant to support 11 Departments as well as the San Mateo Consolidated Fire Department.

DUTIES:

Depending upon assignment, duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Audit invoices against purchase orders; verify encumbrances; research discrepancies; approve for payment and post to the proper account.
• Open and close accounts; maintain various ledgers, registers, journals, and spreadsheets according to established account classifications.
• Maintain daily transaction records by balancing, preparing summaries, and entering into financial system; maintain records of delinquent invoices.
• Respond to citizen inquiries; research and answer employee and department questions regarding the status of accounts and payments, the proper coding of transactions, and other matters.
• Participate in the preparation of payroll, accounts payable and accounts receivable as well as control and account verification of an accounting system.
• Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

• One year of clerical experience, preferably including some financial and statistical record keeping.
• Equivalent to completion of the 12th grade.

• Interest in learning more about a career in local government finance

Under supervision, the Community Service Officer (CSO) performs a wide range of field and office support duties in the patrol and support services divisions within the Marysville Police Department.

This is a specialized, full-time, non-sworn classification. The Community Service Officer has no powers of arrest.

Definition: 
To perform varied and routine non-sworn duties with emphasis on parking enforcement and vehicle abatement program.

Examples of Duties:

• Enforce sections of the Marysville Municipal Code, other enforcement codes; and assist other City Departments in various code enforcement

• Perform traffic control and non-violent crowd control

• Assist Police Officers in routine investigations and respond to and investigate non-injury traffic collisions
• Respond to general inquiries from the public not requiring a sworn officer, in person at the front counter, on the telephone, through electronic mail, or in the field; take and process crime reports; provide information, assistance and required forms.
• Participate in animal control enforcement activities.
• Respond to general public service calls and complaints; perform a wide variety of citizen assistance tasks.
• Operate computer systems and access data bases such as the California Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (CLETS) to enter, search, confirm and retrieve a wide variety of information related to local, state and national crime activity and investigations using established codes and screens, determine alternative approaches to locating information such as use of aliases and other name variations

• Complete effective presentations to community groups, provide crime prevention information, and help with community events and related duties.

• Testify in court or at hearings on case records and investigative activities.
