The City of Sunnyvale is seeking a division head-level Risk Manager to lead and guide the Risk Management Division. The Risk Manager will bring a dynamic, service-oriented and proactive approach to the City of Sunnyvale organization. Key responsibilities include planning, organizing, directing and coordinating risk management, workers’ compensation, property and liability, and safety programs; collaborating with other divisions and departments; and providing highly complex strategic support to the Director of Human Resources.

The Position: 

The position being recruited for is in the Benefits and HRIS Administration Division. The incumbent will be trained to have working knowledge of CalPERS retirement and health and other ancillary benefits (e.g., dental, vision, life insurance, Flexible Spending Account, post-separation Health Reimbursement Arrangements, retiree medical reimbursement) and will be responsible for monitoring and processing employee benefits, leaves, and personnel transactions. Personnel transactions include processing new hires, promotions, separations, pay rate changes, premium pays, transfers, and other data changes. Benefits and leaves administration may include processing mid-year employee benefit changes, annual benefits open enrollment actions, leave of absence requests, benefit or leave adjustments, COBRA, and answering employee and retiree questions. Familiarity with databases, including experience creating, updating, and reporting data, is essential. The position requires a person to be detail oriented to ensure all benefit and personnel transactions are accurate and timely. Strong customer service is required.

The Position:

The Senior Inspector is a supervisory classification responsible for performing the more complex building, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical inspections and supervising and coordinating the work of less experienced inspectors and support staff. Depending on the area of expertise, each Senior Inspector may be assigned to one or more of the following Programs or specialties: Building, Electrical, Plumbing, Mechanical, Permit Center, and Code Enforcement. The City of East Palo Alto is actively seeking a detail-oriented, welcoming, problem solver for the Full-Time Planning Permit Technician position. The Planning Permit Technician performs a variety of routine to complex administrative and technical support duties related to City planning and in support of related services and activities of the Community and Economic Development Department. This role explains ordinances, requirements, City codes, and department procedures for building contractors, architects, engineers, builders, and the general public pertaining to land development, improvement permit requests and concerns. Department

The Santa Clara City Library is a department of the City and has positioned itself as a dynamic community hub, providing access to information, literacy resources, educational programming, and promotes civic engagement in Santa Clara. The Library Department is organized into several divisions: Administration, Adult Services, Branch Services, Customer Services, Facilities, Read Santa Clara, Technical and Technology Services and Youth Services. Santa Clara City Library is in the process of finalizing and implementing its new Strategic Plan that will support the direction of future library services. 

Position

Read Santa Clara, the adult and family literacy program of the Santa Clara City Library, has offered English as a Second Language (ESL) services since 2023, as part of a state grant project. The ESL Program Assistant provides 1:1 and small group tutoring for limited English-speaking adults to strengthen their basic English speaking and listening skills and help achieve their goals. This position works with and reports to the ESL Program Specialist and Literacy Program Supervisor. This position is responsible for supporting literacy volunteers, assessing adult learners’ literacy needs, and documenting program data for grant reporting.  The ideal candidate has a passion for serving adults with limited English language skills from historically underserved communities.

This is a grant funded position for 15 hours a week till June 30, 2026. The position’s continuation beyond this date is subject to the availability of grant funds.

As an as-needed employee, this is an "at-will" position and there is no guarantee of hours. Hours are limited to 999 in a fiscal year or 960 hours in a fiscal year for retired CalPERS annuitants.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Redwood City Fire Department is seeking individuals for the position of Cadet Firefighter. The Cadet Firefighter Program is designed to allow students an opportunity to gain firsthand knowledge of fire department operations. Fire Department Cadets spend a minimum of 48 hours and a maximum of 96 hours per month at the firehouse, participating in calls for service, station duties, and training. Cadets will also be expected to attend department-sponsored community functions outside of their 96-hour monthly commitment. Though the goal is to immerse the cadet into all aspects of fire department life, they are not allowed to participate in situations deemed Immediately Dangerous to Life and Health (IDLH).

This Fire Cadet position is a non-benefited volunteer position.
