The City of Lafayette is seeking a well-seasoned, Senior Civil Engineer to play a key role in our Engineering and Public Works Department. The ideal candidate for this role is comfortable with designing, managing and inspecting capital improvement projects; presenting and explaining projects to members of the public, elected officials and appointed officials; and balancing office work with hands-on field work. Currently, this position directly reports to the Engineering Services Manager. In the future, the Senior Civil Engineer may supervise junior department members. SRFECC is preparing for a Dispatcher Academy, beginning February 2026! As a Dispatcher I, you will be a key player in the public safety network, managing both emergency and non-emergency calls. Your role involves receiving critical information, dispatching appropriate Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) resources, providing live-saving instructions, relaying facts, and ensuring effective communication throughout the incident. This is an entry-level position ideal for individuals with no prior public safety dispatching experience. Advancement to Dispatcher II is expected within two years, and offers greater responsibility and higher pay.

This position requires the ability to work well under pressure, demonstrate exceptional communication skills, and think quickly during emergency situations. Shift work is required, and you must be available for nights, weekends, and holidays.

Key Responsibilities:
Dispatch Operations:

• Operate a Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) console with a multi-line telephone system, radio console, and office computer terminal.
• Answer incoming calls and gather necessary information to evaluate the nature and urgency of the situation, and triage the call appropriately.
• Following applicable policies, procedures, and guidelines, dispatch appropriate Fire and EMS units, ensuring a prompt and accurate response.
• Keep track of the location and status of fire apparatus, units, and investigators, updating as needed.

Communication and Coordination:

• Transmit critical messages to Fire/EMS units responding to emergencies.
• Provide emergency medical self-help instructions to citizens while EMS units are en route.
• Coordinate with external agencies, such as utility companies, water services, and law enforcement agencies, as needed.

Support and Documentation:

• Answer general inquiries or refer calls to the appropriate department for non-emergency concerns.
• Complete department forms, maintain accurate logs, and ensure compliance with procedures.
• Participate in regular training, drills, and public education programs.

Customer Service and Continuous Improvement:

• Demonstrate continuous effort to improve the application of operations and work processes, ensuring high-quality customer service.
• Collaborate effectively with colleagues, responders, and other departments to provide seamless service.

Program Assistant: Adults and Seniors

Salary Range: $18.52 - $30.68/hour, depending on experience.

DEFINITION

Assists in the planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of programs, events, and services in a designated area of Recreation Arts and Community Services. Provides highly organized and responsible administrative and programmatic support to the Program Coordinator, including assistance with internal programs, volunteer coordination, and preparation of the quarterly activity guide, etc. Recommends and coordinates the purchase of program supplies and equipment. Helps foster and maintain positive relationships within the community to enhance program offerings and engagement.

• This is a part-time, temporary, at-will, non-benefited position.
• Flexible schedule of 15-20 hours per week, including some evenings and weekends; not-to-exceed 950 hours per calendar year.
• This position is Primarily located at the Danville Senior Center with some responsibilities at various location around Town depending on program needs.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

General supervision is received from the Program Coordinator and the Program Supervisor.  May exercise supervision of part-time personnel and volunteers as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

Essential duties are inclusive of, but not limited to, the following:

• Assist in the planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of innovative programs, events, and services for older adults.
• Provide administrative and programmatic support to the Program Coordinator and Supervisor, including internal events, volunteer programs, and special initiatives such as Buzz Sessions.
• Deliver excellent customer service by responding to inquiries, processing registrations, and assisting with facility reservations and general front desk operations at the Danville Senior Center.
• Supervise and motivate part-time staff, volunteers, and program participants to ensure a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment.
• Support the coordination and execution of community events, including the Recreation Expo, Senior Variety Show, and other department-wide initiatives.
• Assist with the preparation, proofreading, and editing of the quarterly Activity Guide, ensuring consistency with online registration systems.
• Maintain accurate records and ensure all documents, spreadsheets, and files are organized and accessible using designated systems such as SharePoint.
• Monitor facility conditions and promptly report maintenance issues using the Town’s CRM system.
• Assist with public communications and manage the Seniors' Inbox.
• Perform duties in compliance with OSHA standards, Town policies, and departmental procedures.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicant must be at least 18 years old.  Receive satisfactory results from a background investigation and fingerprinting. Provide written proof of a negative TB test before the appointment.

Knowledge of:

• Recreational programs, developmentally appropriate group activities, and applicable health and safety regulations.
• Record keeping practices and procedures; office practices, procedures, and equipment.

Ability to:

• Pay attention to detail and accuracy within events and programming.
• Understand and follow oral and written directions; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and members of the public.
• Build relationships and compose correspondence with outside vendors for internal programming and volunteering.
• Provide information to the public in person, by telephone, or through written correspondence where judgment, knowledge, and interpretive skills may be required.
• Effectively utilize Microsoft Office Suite.
• Must be able to provide a TB test result within the last four years, or obtain a new record.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education:

Graduation from high school or equivalent is required, with college-level coursework completed in Recreation, Human Development, Education, or a related field preferred. 

Experience:

Background in municipal parks and recreation and/or Adult and Senior Services is desirable.  Supervision of part-time and/or volunteer personnel is highly desirable. Customer service experience required. 

LICENSE(S) AND CERTIFICATION(S)

Possession of a valid California State Driver's License, or a license in another state with the ability to obtain a California license within 30 days of hire.  First Aid and CPR/AED certification is required but may be obtained during the first 90 days of employment.

PROGRAM LEADER (SPORTS AND FITNESS)

Salary Range: $17.37 to $23.15/hour, DOE

This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefitted position; 15-20 hours per week (not to exceed 950 hours per calendar year); predominantly afternoon/evening schedule, some weekends.

DEFINITION
The Town seeks gym monitors, scorekeepers, and leaders for the Junior Warriors youth basketball program. Responsibilities focus on monitoring basketball practices and games for kindergarten-aged through middle school participants. Basketball knowledge is preferred but not required. All staff will be cross-trained to assist with multiple aspects of the program, including refereeing younger age groups (K–3rd grade) and scorekeeping/timekeeping for older age groups. CPR/FA certification is recommended but not required.
 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Program Leader receives supervision from the Program Coordinator and/or Program Assistant.
 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Essential duties may include, but are not limited to:
•Gym monitoring for practices and games, including opening the gym, setting up and lowering hoops, and cleaning up.
•Refereeing for younger age groups (K–3rd grade).
•Scorekeeping and timekeeping for older age groups.
•Completing program score sheets, reports, and timesheets according to deadlines.
•Attending monthly staff meetings.
•Various tasks related to the implementation of youth basketball programs.

The Recreation Instructor will be responsible for the planning and implementation of skateboarding classes to be held at Mel Nunes Skatepark in Newark. Responsibilities include teaching fundamental techniques, promoting safety, and creating an encouraging environment where participants can build confidence and have fun while learning to skate.

REQUIREMENTS
