Job Description:

Overview:

Under general supervision, this role assists in the implementation of the Pure Water Silicon Valley (PWSV) project, including planning, design, and validation studies of the advanced water treatment facility (AWTF) and the distribution of product water for direct potable reuse (DPR). Key responsibilities encompass the development of water quality testing plans, validation of treatment processes, provision of technical support for design, piloting, operational planning, monitoring plans, ensuring regulatory compliance with DPR regulations, managing Reverse Osmosis Concentrate, and aiding in the integration of purified water into the current water supply and distribution system.

The Associate Engineer additionally acts as a technical liaison for the Water Supply Outreach team-evaluating outreach materials for precision and conducting tours of the Silicon Valley Advanced Water Purification Center for stakeholders and community organizations. The associate engineer would also assist the R&PW Unit in its ongoing collaboration with the District Financial Planning & Management Services Division regarding State and Federal grant and loan applications. In addition, the incumbent would assist in the development of agreements for the PWSV. This position is essential for the implementation of the Pure Water project and ensuring that Valley Water achieves its long-term recycled water objectives while securing community backing and regulatory approvals.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Supporting the R&PW Unit in enacting a robust communications plan for outreach and associated strategies for promoting potable use and also technical tours at SVAWPC and continued proactive communication with key parties-consumers, elected officials, regulators, advocacy organizations, media outlets, utility staff- before, during, and after PWSV project development and continued leadership for the purified bottling and taste-testing efforts.
• Support the R&PW Unit in its continued coordination with the District Financial Planning & Management Services Division on State and Federal Grant and Loan applications.

Valley Water Telework Program: Eligibility for telework will depend on the type of work performed, operational needs, and the ability for the employee to perform the essential functions of their job duties while teleworking. The Administrative Services Department has a rewarding full-time, 40 hours per week, non-benefited summer internship opportunity to begin in June of 2026. The main function of the job is to perform municipal research and analytical work on an entry level professional basis.

The workload will be a balance of assisting in daily municipal operations and special projects. Job Description:

The Town of Los Altos Hills is recruiting a college intern to work in the Community Development Department. The intern will split time between the planning and building divisions of CDD. The role for planning will include support of both short range and long range planning.  Interns working on long range planning will work primarily as a research aide for the Town’s 2023-2031 certified Housing Element implementation.  For short range planning and the building division support interns will be focused on day to day permit activities, but may also work on other more general department duties as needed.

Examples of Duties:

• Conduct research and analysis of State Law and Fair Housing requirements for the Town’s 2023-2031 certified Housing Element implementation

Under general supervision, performs a variety of complex technical accounting support duties in the preparation, maintenance, and processing of accounting and financial transactions, including payroll, general accounting, and financial reporting; and performs related duties as assigned.

POSITION DESCRIPTION, DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS, AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Water Distribution Operators are directly involved in the installation, maintenance, and repair of valves, mains, services, and related potable water distribution system facilities and equipment. Performs related work as required.

Water Distribution Operator II - This is the journey-level class in the Water Distribution Operator series and is distinguished from the I level by the assignment of the full range of duties. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new, unusual, or unique situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies within the work unit.  Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the I level once the incumbent meets the qualification standards of the II level, demonstrates an ability to perform the full scope of the work, and meets performance standards.

• Experience:
  • One year of responsible experience similar to a Water Distribution Operator I with the District
• License and Certificate:
  • California Class C Driver’s License
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Grade D2 Water Distribution Operator certificate from the State of California Water Resources Control Board within one year of hire.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

The Seasonal Maintenance Worker position performs a variety of entry-level and unskilled labor, maintenance and repair tasks in various public works operations, such as park maintenance, landscape maintenance, creek and catch basin maintenance, street maintenance, and janitorial and facility maintenance.  Weekend availability is at times required for picnic area prep, general park clean-up, etc.

• Oral Interview & Eligibility List Candidates who submit their PHQ in a timely and appropriate manner will be invited to an oral interview with Background Detectives. Successful candidates will be placed on an eligibility list based on interview ranking.

• Background Investigation Top candidates will undergo a comprehensive background investigation, which includes:

  • Medical evaluation

  • Psychological assessment

  • Polygraph examination

  • Drug and alcohol screening

• Physical Agility Testing Candidates must successfully complete the following physical agility components:

  • One Mile Run – 10 minutes

  • Solid Fence Climb – 13.5 seconds

  • Chain Link Fence Climb – 10 seconds

  • Body Drag (165 lbs.) – 14 seconds

  • 99‑Yard Obstacle Course – 25 seconds

• Final Interview Candidates who pass all prior stages will participate in the Chief’s Final Oral Interview.

                              DISQUALIFYING FACTORS

The following factors are disqualifying:

• False statement or omission of information on the employment application, personal history statement, verbally to the oral panel, or the background investigator is disqualifying and grounds for termination of employment.
• Felony conviction.
• Applicants on criminal probation at time of intended hire.
• Unlawful use of any drug (including marijuana) while employed as a full-time or limited peace officer.
• Involvement in the sales of illegal drugs (including marijuana).
• Lack of a California driver’s license at time of intended hire.
• A sex act perpetrated against the will of the other party.
• Suicide attempts.

The following factors may be disqualifying:

• Prior drug usage will be evaluated for what was used, the extent of the use, and how recent the usage has been (including marijuana).
• Misdemeanor conviction.
• An arrest which could have led to one year in County Jail or State Prison.
• Theft.
• Unlawful carrying of a concealed weapon.
• A sex act in which the other party was under eighteen years of age.
• Demonstrated history of irresponsible motor vehicle operation.
• A “Failure to Appear” on your driving record.
• D.U.I. conviction.
• Applicants under psychological/psychiatric care.
• Military discipline or less than honorable discharge.
• Demonstrated history of financial irresponsibility.
• Failure to keep appointments or submit documentation in a complete, neat and timely fashion during the hiring process.
