Qualifications:

Any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical path includes:

• A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Marketing, Public Relations, Communications, English, or a related field
• At least two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in journalism, media relations, or a related communication field
• Experience managing digital content, public outreach campaigns, or branding projects

DISTINGUISING CHARACTERISTICS

• Performs professional accounting work including recording and reporting of financial and budgetary transactions for assigned areas of responsibility.

THE POSITION

Under general supervision, the Electrician performs a wide variety of skilled work in the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical infrastructure systems and equipment in support of the divisions of the Public Works Department. 

Examples of duties include:

• Performs skilled electrical and electronic installation, repair, service and maintenance work on a variety of electrical installations, systems, pumps, meters, and other equipment in City facilities, which include working on and around high voltage, 480-voltage, and multi-phase motors
• Inspects and repairs motor control circuits and variable frequency drive systems
• Inspects, maintains, and repairs electrical switch gear, transformers, underground transmission power
• conductors, relays, motors, pumps, generators and a variety of other types of electro-mechanical equipment
• Reads and interprets electrical and mechanical drawings and specifications

About the Position

The City of San Carlos is seeking a full-time Associate Engineer in our Public Works Department. This position performs professional and technical civil engineering work in support of the City’s public works and private development projects. Responsibilities will range from simpler projects and to more complex ones. Employees in this job class provide general engineering support and direction to a variety of public and private projects. Projects worked on may include civil works projects including: roads, drainage, grading, buildings, water and wastewater pipelines and treatment facilities, tanks, generators, parks and landscaping, bike paths, environmental mitigation and other related subjects.

The Associate Engineer is distinguished from the Assistant Engineer by the level of experience in the field of municipal engineering and the level of job knowledge.  This is a more specialized class wherein incumbents are charged with performing a wide variety of complex engineering assignments and having a much broader range of knowledge, skills and abilities.

Employees in this classification work under general supervision of the Principal Engineer. Employees in the Engineer positions are not directly responsible for the supervision and evaluation of other engineering staff; however, they may provide supervision of work product to other engineers, inspectors, technicians or intern staff.

Essential Duties

• Plans, directs, participates and effectively completes moderately complex projects. This technical work involves engineering, surveying, construction or other activities related to the civil engineering profession.
• Manages assigned projects, serving as the project lead and ensuring that all aspects of the project are addressed and completed professionally.
• Supervises the work products of project team members, including technicians or intern staff.
• Administers consultant contracts and oversees consultants for services such as design, construction management, construction inspection, soil testing, biological studies, and other related tasks.
• Reviews, prepares construction drawings and specifications for a variety of City public works projects using AutoCAD and related civil design software to process projects through the City.
• Reviews and evaluates preliminary and final plans and specifications for private development.
• Prepares Requests for Proposals for support work such as surveying or biological studies.
• inspects and evaluates ongoing public works and development projects to ensure compliance with plans and specifications and regulatory agency requirements.
• Conducts surveys, and/or assists survey personnel in obtaining field data and conducts a variety of field construction tests for compliance purposes.
• Verifies and maintains appropriate records and files; prepares comprehensive technical reports and agenda reports related to assignments. Presents reports as needed.
• Represents the Public Works Department at various meetings.
• Performs a variety of computer and tracking support functions.
• Interacts with the public at the public counter answering questions and issuing permits for construction in the City’s right of way.
• Prepares Requests for Qualifications/Proposals (RFQ/Ps) for design, construction management and support services as needed.
• Provides preliminary and final review of development proposals such as subdivisions maps, parcel maps and subdivision improvements.
• Reviews private development submittals for compliance with State and local regulations and specifications, working with project proponents to make necessary corrections.
• Effectively plans, organizes, schedules and implements projects.
• Perform studies, research files, records, plans, and maps.
• Gathers, assembles, analyzes and interprets field data, and prepares reports.
• Coordinates with other departments as needed to complete assignments.
• Provides planning, specification, calculation and cost estimating review of others’ work.
• Reviews construction of projects and assists in maintaining construction documents.
• Reviews and evaluates development plans, maps, and related documents for conformance to City, State, and Federal codes. Reviews calculations and issues permits.
• Gathers traffic data, maintains traffic records, conducts traffic studies, and prepares traffic reports.
• Provides assistance to other City employees regarding engineering related matters.
• Administers consultant contracts for moderately complex projects or service contracts, effectively monitoring costs and deadlines.
• Manages assigned projects by acting as lead person on the project, ensuring that all aspects of the project are addressed and the project is completed in a professional manner.
• Assists in preparing and managing budgets for operation and capital improvement programs.
• Coordinates work with regulatory agencies and private entities, completing public relations work as needed or assigned.
• Prepare reports and delivers presentations to City and private groups as assigned.

• Applies for and administers grants.

What You’ll Do

The Public Works Maintenance Leadworker performs skilled work in the construction, maintenance, and repair of sewer infrastructure, road ways, sidewalks, and storm conveyance system. The Leadworker assigns and participates in the work of maintenance crews, operates power driven equipment, and performs related work as required.   This position is responsible for lead supervision of a sewer, street, storm or traffic safety maintenance field crew. The City of Pacifica's Public Works Department is recruiting for a Building Maintenance Specialist. This is a full-time position with benefits and a compensation schedule range of $6,339 - $7,529 per month. This position works a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off. This position is included in a bargaining unit under Teamsters MISC Local No. 856.

Definition

Under general supervision, this position performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled duties in connection with the construction, maintenance, and repair of City buildings and other facilities; and performs related duties as assigned. This position is distinguished from other maintenance classes in its specialization in building construction and maintenance, utilizing skills in one or more of the building trades.

Typical and Important Duties

• Constructs, remodels, and repairs a variety of buildings and structures, such as walls, partitions, doorways, counters, stairways, plumbing, roofs, and floor coverings.
• Builds and/or installs cabinets, shelving, bookcases, molding and other items involving finish carpentry.
• Performs other crafts-related work in connection with the construction, alteration, and repair of buildings and related facilities.
• Inspects work sites to take dimensions, prepare estimates of time and materials to lay-out work. 
• Reads and interprets blueprints, schematics, diagrams, and catalogues
• Maintains work orders, services records, time logs
• Prepares drawings and specifications for assigned projects.
• Estimates materials and supplies required to perform assigned work; may order supplies and materials as required.
• May direct the work of other workers on a project or relief basis.
• Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Essential Job Function

Ability to drive, possess and maintain a valid California driver’s license, as well as drive a variety of vehicles safely.

Job-Related Qualifications

Knowledge of:

• Tools, equipment, techniques, and practices used in rough and finish carpentry work.
• Tools, equipment, techniques, and practices used in other building trades work.
• Safe and proper use of power tools, hand tools, and work materials

Employment Standards

Any combination of training and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and completion of an accredited four-year apprenticeship program in construction field.

Licenses and Certificates

Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record. May be required to qualify for and obtain a Class “A” or “B” driver’s license, and, therefore, become subject to the Department of Transportation’s random drug and alcohol testing program.
