LIBRARIAN I - PART-TIME - ADULT SERVICES

Regular Part-Time Employment Opportunity

(21 hours per week)

The City of Sunnyvale is seeking to fill the position of Part-Time Librarian I in Adult Services with energetic and highly motivated individuals who possess excellent customer service, technical and interpersonal skills.

 The ideal candidate will have experience working closely with the public in a fast-paced full-service library environment. Key responsibilities include creating new and innovative programs for the public, selecting interesting and relevant titles for the collection, assisting community members with their information needs, and expanding the Library's community engagement and outreach activities. The Adult Services Librarian works under the direction of the Supervising Librarian and other management staff in a team-oriented and forward-thinking environment. The position requires a Master's degree in Library and Information Science from an American Library Association accredited program.

The list established from this recruitment may be used to fill future Librarian I – Part-Time – Adult Services vacancies at the Sunnyvale Main Library and the Lakewood Branch Library, expected to open in 2026.

Under general supervision, performs a full range of professional library duties in support of assigned functions; and performs other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Education/Experience

Librarian I

A Master's degree in Library and Information Science or similar field of study from an American Library Association accredited program.

Salary:  $42.41 - $59.54 Hourly

• Education: Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in business, public administration, accounting, or other similar field of study. Master’s degree is desirable.
• Experience: 4+ years professional finance or budget experience, including 1 year supervisory.

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, environmental sciences, public administration, or a related field of study.
• Experience: 3-7+ years of relevant utilities operations and supervisory experience.
• Alternative Minimum Qualifying Education/Experience:  Possess at least 60 semester college units from an accredited college or university (related coursework preferred); and possess and maintain a CA Drinking Water Distribution Grade D5 certification issued by the State of CA Water Resources Control Board.

Senior Environmental Engineer - Wastewater:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Sanitary or Environmental Engineering.
• Experience: 5+ years of professional sanitary, civil, or environmental engineering experience. Significant experience in wastewater engineering and project management is needed.

CERTIFICATION & LICENSING REQUIREMENTS

• Senior Environmental Engineer - Wastewater: Must possess a valid Certificate of Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of California. If an applicant possesses all of the minimum qualifications, except registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of California, the applicant may (at city’s sole discretion) be allowed up to one (1) year to obtain registration as a condition of employment.
• Utilities Operations Manager: Must possess a California Drinking Water Distribution Grade D2 certification (or obtain within 12 months of hire), and obtain CWEA Collection System Maintenance Grade I and Water Treatment Grade T1 certifications within the same timeframe.

Initial placement in the salary range is typically within the first half of the range; however, in certain circumstances (i.e. an experienced lateral candidate) placement at or above the midpoint may be considered. The last 3% of the salary range requires five year of City of Gilroy service and strong work performance – see MOU for specific requirements.
 

PLUS, all positions will receive a benefits package that includes:

The Utilities Operations Manager role is ideal for a mission-driven leader who thrives in fast-paced, hands-on environments and is passionate about delivering top-tier utility services. The Utilities Operations Manager will oversee an Operations Division of 18 staff with two direct reports, and may supervise more staff as the department grows. They will oversee the City’s water distribution and wastewater collection systems, ensuring safe, efficient, and sustainable operations. In addition to supervising day-to-day functions, they will lead the implementation of new technologies, including a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), while also cultivating a culture of safety and accountability. The Senior Environmental Engineer - Wastewater will lead high-profile wastewater treatment initiatives for the South County Regional Wastewater Authority (SCRWA). The Senior Environmental Engineer - Wastewater will oversee one direct report and, working alongside the third-party contractor for the treatment plan, will serve as the technical lead for complex CIP projects, regulatory reporting, consultant oversight, and cross-agency collaboration. The Engineer will play a pivotal role in ensuring long-term environmental sustainability while enhancing infrastructure critical to regional growth. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in sanitary or environmental engineering and understanding of regional, state, and federal-level regulations. This is a highly visible position that calls for strong communication skills, confident project leadership, and a passion for public service.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

Utilities Business Manager:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in business, public administration, accounting, or other similar field of study. Master’s degree is desirable.
• Experience: 4+ years professional finance or budget experience, including 1 year supervisory.

Utilities Operations Manager:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, environmental sciences, public administration, or a related field of study.
• Experience: 3-7+ years of relevant utilities operations and supervisory experience.
• Alternative Minimum Qualifying Education/Experience:  Possess at least 60 semester college units from an accredited college or university (related coursework preferred); and possess and maintain a CA Drinking Water Distribution Grade D5 certification issued by the State of CA Water Resources Control Board.

Senior Environmental Engineer - Wastewater:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Sanitary or Environmental Engineering.
• Experience: 5+ years of professional sanitary, civil, or environmental engineering experience. Significant experience in wastewater engineering and project management is needed.

CERTIFICATION & LICENSING REQUIREMENTS

• Senior Environmental Engineer - Wastewater: Must possess a valid Certificate of Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of California. If an applicant possesses all of the minimum qualifications, except registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of California, the applicant may (at city’s sole discretion) be allowed up to one (1) year to obtain registration as a condition of employment.
• Utilities Operations Manager: Must possess a California Drinking Water Distribution Grade D2 certification (or obtain within 12 months of hire), and obtain CWEA Collection System Maintenance Grade I and Water Treatment Grade T1 certifications within the same timeframe.

Utilities Business Manager Annual Salary: $128,385 - $176,334 DOE/DOQ
Utilities Operations Manager Annual Salary: $134,803 - $185,164 DOE/DOQ
Senior Environmental Engineer Annual Salary: $134,803 – 185,164 DOE/DOQ

Initial placement in the salary range is typically within the first half of the range; however, in certain circumstances (i.e. an experienced lateral candidate) placement at or above the midpoint may be considered. The last 3% of the salary range requires five year of City of Gilroy service and strong work performance – see MOU for specific requirements.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Gilroy is currently recruiting for a full-time Senior Civil Engineer or an Engineer II (dependent on qualifications) for the Engineering Division of the Public Works Department. In this exciting opportunity the incumbent will play a pivotal role in shaping infrastructure and overseeing key projects vital to the growth and development of the City of Gilroy.  The Senior Civil Engineer will work under the direction of the City Engineer and/or the Public Works Director and is afforded the authority and discretion to oversee the day-to-day operations of the Capital Improvement Program (CIP) Section. This supervisory position will lead a team of engineers and technicians in the implementation of the City’s CIP, including the planning, design, construction, and inspection of a variety of projects.  Responsibilities include supervising employees, directing complex professional-level field and office engineering assignments, developing strategies and schedules for implementing the CIP, assisting with CIP budgeting, and playing a significant role in making a difference in the community! 

The Senior Civil Engineer classification is an exempt, mid-management level position. 

The Engineer II will play a critical role in designing, managing and delivering Capital Improvement projects that improve essential city infrastructure. From planning and budgeting to implementation, your work will positively affect thousands of residents daily, supporting the city’s mission to create a safe, connected, and vibrant community. Although this position is dedicated to CIP, in order to appropriately respond to community needs, the Engineer II may also provide support to the Land Development and Transportation engineering sections, so adaptability and flexibility are keys to success in this position. This position may also represent the City in community meetings and hearings, meetings with project stakeholders, and serve on regional committees as applicable.

The Engineer II is a journey-level position that will work under the direct supervision of a Senior Engineer or City Engineer and will perform professional engineering work in the field and office. THE TEAM AND DEPARTMENT
The Public Works Department is responsible for providing high quality, safe and effective maintenance, operation and construction of streets, parks, storm drainage and related infrastructure. The Department is under new leadership with a renewed focus on master infrastructure planning, proactive capital maintenance and replacement, traffic engineering and customer service. Pipeline public projects include completion of the Civic Center Master Plan, design and bid of the new Santa Teresa Fire Station, a $7 million pavement rehabilitation project, a $3 million San Ysidro Park remodel project, and completion of Traffic Impact Fee Study. The City is processing multiple large private projects including an almost one million square foot Amazon data center as well as multiple residential subdivisions and multi-family projects.
