About the Opportunity

This position is limited to 1,000 hours per fiscal year, averaging approximately 20 hours per week. Work schedules are based on business needs and candidate availability. As part of supporting the City Clerk's Office, the Intern will assist with preparation and setup for City Council meetings held on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday evenings of each month, in addition to occasional weekend events and community activities. The Intern will support the Administrative Services Department, assisting both the City Manager's Office and City Clerk's Office. Under close supervision, the Intern will perform a variety of administrative, analytical, and project-based assignments while gaining valuable exposure to municipal government operations.

Typical Responsibilities Include:

• Assisting with administrative tasks and special projects
• Conducting research, compiling data, and preparing reports
• Drafting correspondence, policies, procedures, and other written materials
• Supporting City meetings, public outreach efforts, and departmental initiatives

The City of Pacifica is seeking a seasoned, collaborative, and forward-thinking leader to serve as Deputy Director of Public Works - Field Services & Engineering. This senior management role offers the opportunity to guide essential municipal infrastructure programs that support public safety, community livability, environmental stewardship, and the long-term resilience of a beautiful coastal city.

As second-in-command of the Public Works Department, the Deputy Director provides strategic, administrative, technical, and operational leadership for both the Field Services and the Engineering Division. THE ORGANIZATION

Incorporated in 1927, Menlo Park is a General Law city operating under a Council-Manager form of government. The City Council is the City's five-member governing body whose members are elected by district to four-year overlapping terms in general municipal elections. The Mayor and Vice Mayor are selected by the City Council to serve one-year terms, rotating each December. The City Council appoints the City Manager and City Attorney, as well as members of the City’s seven commissions, and the City Manager appoints all executive and management positions. City staff report to one of six departments: the City Manager’s Office, Administrative Services, Community Development, Library and Community Services, Police, and Public Works, which includes Menlo Park Municipal Water. Fire protection and sanitary services are provided by separate special districts. The City is supported by approximately 297 full-time equivalent employees and a total expenditure budget of $235 million.

The Administrative Services Department is a department of nearly 30 staff in Finance, Human Resources, and Information Technology. The department plays a vital role in supporting the City’s day-to-day operations by delivering essential internal services and ensuring the organization is well equipped to provide exceptional services to the community.

THE POSITION

The Human Resources Manager is a key management position at the City. This individual plans, manages, and oversees the daily functions, operations, and activities of Human Resources, working collaboratively with the Administrative Services Director and management staff across the City. It is essential that this position is responsive to all customers and takes a proactive approach to building relationships throughout the organization, recognizing the value and unique contributions made by each and every employee. This individual serves as the main point of contact on employee relations matters and leads labor relations for the City’s five unions (general employees, supervisors and mid-management, police officers, police sergeants, and temporary employees), along with the confidential and unrepresented management groups. This position leads highly-complex projects; conducts a variety of organizational and operational studies and investigations; and prepares and presents staff reports, policies, and other correspondence for the City Council and all employees. The Human Resources Manager leads a staff of five, comprised of three Management Analysts and two Human Resources Technicians, to accomplish a wide variety of daily tasks, policy and labor agreement administration, and process improvements, and is responsible for interpreting and complying with the various regulatory requirements from Federal, State, and local agencies.

The selected candidate will have the opportunity to work on the following upcoming projects:

• Manage projects currently underway that involve collaborating with employees at all levels of the organization, including the citywide classification and compensation study and the employee engagement survey.
• Retool several division functions, including performance management, recruitment, selection and retention processes, leave programs, and workers' compensation leave administration.
• Promote employee engagement and performance management through enhanced training programs and citywide recognition events and other initiatives identified through the engagement survey analysis.
• Continue to manage and develop content for the popular “HR Bits and Bites” trainings, where supervisors and managers connect with Human Resources and one another for development and relationship-building over snacks.
• Train and develop Human Resources staff to form a cohesive team equipped to succeed.
• Review and update policies and practices to ensure compliance with employment laws.

The Port of San Francisco is embarking on a multi-year project to replace the organization’s legacy enterprise business applications with a modern, unified platform built on Salesforce. This project will lead the replacement and migration of Port Enterprise technologies that have reached end-of-life with modern systems that support and promote the department's business capabilities. The project is focused on building and implementing data-rich, constituent-and user-focused, integrated systems. The successful candidate for this role will set technical direction, write software and make crucial decisions about software architecture as well as providing general technical leadership, mentoring and general supervision to the team. 

Under direction, the Modernization Engineering Project Lead:  

• Plans, organizes, performs, delivers, directs and/or controls highly complex technology-related work products requiring industry or product expertise in broad areas of information technology.  
• Collaborates closely with the Technology Project Manager, Senior User Research Analyst, business stakeholders, and technical teams to design and deliver modern solutions. 
• Provides technical leadership across Salesforce, Kahua, Snowflake, and related technologies while helping balance technical, business, and end-user needs, and guides a small team of technical professionals supporting the modernization effort.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Redwood City, Engineering and Transportation Department announces an opportunity for the position of SUPERVISING CIVIL ENGINEER.  The Supervising Civil Engineer works under general direction of the Engineering and Transportation Director/City Engineer.  This position is responsible for planning and overseeing the work of the Capital Improvement Program (utilities, parks/special projects for building facilities, and creek/channel/levee improvements) and inspection services and supervising and participating in design, construction, and support services.  In addition, the Supervising Civil Engineer provides technical staff assistance in the review of agreements and other engineering functions.  The Supervising Civil Engineer may be required to fulfill the duties of the City Engineer, in the City Engineer’s absence.

The Port of San Francisco is an enterprise agency of the City and County of San Francisco and is governed by a Commission of five members appointed by the Mayor. The Port Commission is responsible for overseeing a broad range of waterfront commercial, maritime, and public access facilities that are held in public trust for the people of California. The Port’s jurisdiction covers approximately 7.5 miles of waterfront land from Pier 98, near Hunter’s Point in the southern part of San Francisco, to Fisherman’s Wharf in the northern part of the City.

The Port of San Francisco is embarking on a multi-year project to replace the organization’s legacy enterprise business applications with a modern, unified platform built on Salesforce. This project will lead the replacement and migration of Port Enterprise technologies that have reached end-of-life with modern systems that support and promote the department's business capabilities. The project is focused on building and implementing data-rich, constituent-and user-focused, integrated systems. As a user researcher, the Senior User Research Analyst will conduct research with staff and stakeholders of the Port and synthesize that research into actionable insights for the product team. 

Under direction, the Senior User Research Analyst: 

• Plans, organizes, performs, delivers, directs and/or controls highly complex technology-related work products requiring industry or product expertise in broad areas of information technology. 
• Ensures the Port’s modern platform meets the business needs of the Port and doesn’t just replicate the existing workflows. 
• Develop and conducts workshops, brainstorming sessions, and other interactive activities with end-users, including employees, partners, and tenants, as applicable, to identify user needs and apply them to business capabilities. 
• Evaluates the impact of the incremental improvements in the Port’s platform and suggest course correction and incremental improvement to maximize its effectiveness.   
• Responsible for developing and maintaining system requirements for all Port Modernization projects. 
• Collaborates closely with product, technology, and business stakeholders to ensure user research findings inform requirements, prioritization, and product decisions throughout the Port Modernization program.  
• Directly contributes, as the voice of the end-users, in project and work prioritization discussions with the technology project management and leadership team, ensuring that user needs are always considered up-front.    
• Leads the development and delivery of technology oriented organizational change management, including establishing relationships with and elevating change champions across the organization, developing training materials, and leading user adoption.
