We are currently recruiting for three positions: Recreation Coordinator - Special Events, Senior Services, and Meals on Wheels. These positions are full-time, fully benefitted positions with the Parks, Beaches, & Recreation Department. Details follow below!

DEFINITION

Under general supervision, plans, organizes, publicizes, coordinates, and administers community and recreation services for various age groups; organizes and conducts special events.

Recreation Coordinator positions will be assigned to one or more of the following areas: administration; aquatics; contract classes, community rentals and facilities; senior services; Meals On Wheels, city-wide special events; youth and teen services, and community outreach.

 

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This classification provides support to the City’s diverse range of recreation and community service programs.  This classification is distinguished from the Recreation Supervisor in that the latter is a full supervisory classification that has broader responsibility for a wider range of programs.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED

Receives general supervision from higher-level supervisory staff and oversees assigned staff, contractors, and volunteers.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION REQUIREMENTS

• Plans, coordinates, evaluates, organizes, and implements diversified recreation services and special events of assigned area(s).
• Ensures compliance of standards and regulations for assigned programs, as required by Agency, Contracts, County, State, etc.
• Recommends alternatives for improving services as needed, considering factors such as cost/benefit and marketing analysis, availability of resources, safety of personnel and effects on operations and level of service; recommends or implements improvements as directed.
• Keeps accurate records, maintains program budgets, completes city paperwork and other administrative tasks.
• Communicates with a variety of agencies, vendors, community groups, clients, governmental and members of the public in a courteous and professional manner.
• Responds and resolves inquiries and concerns from the public and escalates inquiries as needed.
• Schedules and assigns work,
• Trains, and instructs assigned volunteers.
• Recruits, orients, evaluates, and recognizes contractors, and volunteers.
• Initiates and collaborates to develop a range of marketing materials for various purposes, including programs, events, informational content, and educational initiatives.
• Conducts program outreach.
• Coordinates and monitors social media.
• Serves as a Disaster Service Worker, as required.
• Coordinate the payroll process with any and all part time staff that are signed to them, including comparing schedules to timecards, entering timecard information into a citywide timecard and invoice system, monitoring staff hours, and auditing timecards for mistakes Senior Services Programs:
• Oversees the organization of all senior programs, encompassing drop-in activities, contracted classes, and social gatherings. Provides support in overseeing the Seniors In Action Council, including the organization of events, programs, and meetings.
• Perform related duties as needed.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of:

• Basic concepts and techniques for organizing, developing, implementing and evaluating recreational programs, services, and events.
• Advanced English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
• Business correspondence writing and report preparation.
• Basic budget and fiscal control procedures and techniques and basic cost recovery principles.
• Functions and organization of municipal government.
• Principles and procedures of record keeping.
• General office practices
• Youth, Teen, Seniors, and/or Adult Contract Class programming.
• Special Events, including coordination, logistics, safety, event budgeting, event staffing, and advertising.
• Coordinating volunteers including vetting applicants, onboarding and training volunteers, and volunteer schedule coordination.

• Understand community needs in a variety of recreation areas and successfully implement activities according to those needs.
• Understand, interpret and apply pertinent policies, regulations and rules and procedures.

• Learn and operate recreation registration software, including the creation of classes, posting online, managing waiting lists, booking facilities, assigning staff, and teaching part time staff basic registration skills.
• Create and update program or special event budgets, including tracking costs, predicting revenues and expenditures, creating a post program/event final budget.
• Create and maintain part time staff and/ or volunteer schedules, including the use of applications or software.
• Work in both an office environment and outdoors, including working in inclement weather.
• Establish rapport with older adults.
• Speak at public functions and meetings to promote services.

 

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES:

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Experience:

One year of experience in recreation and community services.

Experience coordinating and facilitating programs and special events is desirable.

Training:

Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in recreation, human services or a closely related field.

Licenses and Certifications:

Must possess and maintain a valid California Class C driver’s license and have a satisfactory driving record.

Must possess American Red Cross First Aid certificate and CPR Adult, Child, and Infant CPR within six months of appointment.

When assigned to Aquatics, must possess American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification including First Aid and CPR at time of appointment. Title 22 Certification required within one year of appointment.

THE POSITION

Under supervision, performs skilled and technical fire suppression and prevention activities. Must be prepared to act up to the next rank as needed and performs other related duties as required.

Drives fire apparatus to fire incidents and emergency calls; prepares for pumping operations and pumps water to fire at proper pressure; Inspects pumping and other equipment to ensure that apparatus is in good working condition and notifies Fire Captain of any defects; inspects, cleans, and maintains equipment; assists in keeping fire station in a clean and orderly condition; maintains an accurate running log of out-of-service streets and hydrants in the City of Chowchilla; performs fire suppression tasks/responsibilities required during fire suppression, salvage, and overhaul; conducts fire prevention inspections of assigned occupancies and tests fire protection equipment; detects hazardous conditions or violations of fire and building ordinances and laws; issues citations and warnings for violations; may conduct training of civilian and Fire personnel in applicable fire code regulations, fire inspection methods and procedures, and fire safety; investigates cause and origin of fires, seeking evidence of arson or of fire code violations; prepares follow-up correction notices and letters pertaining to initial inspections; Performs related duties as required.

 

PREREQUISITES

Education and/or Experience:

• High School/GED and
• Currently serving a permanent appointment as a Firefighter with the CFD.

Lateral: 

• Currently employed as a Fire Engineer (or equivalent rank) with a fire suppression government agency for a minimum of one (1) year and have completed probation within that rank.
• Must possess a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and First Aid Certificate or higher certification by appointment.
• A current Cal-JAC CPAT card at time of application. (Desired)

Volunteer Lateral: 

• Three years of Volunteer Firefighting for the Chowchilla Volunteer Fire Department with a minimum of one year as a Fire Engineer and have completed probation within that rank.
• Must possess a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and First Aid Certificate.
• A current Cal-JAC CPAT card or equivalent. (Desired)

Certificates: 

• Incident Command System 100, 200, 700; California State Fire Marshal Driver Operator IA or equivalent.

Position Duties

The Department of Public Works is currently seeking to fill a Systems Application Programmer I/II (SAP I/II) position within the Technology Services team to support the Animal Care and Services Division (ACS). This position is responsible for contributing to good data hygiene, building dashboards and reports, authoring SOPs for various Chameleon workflows, providing desktop and mobile device support, and supporting ACS tech projects.

 

Salary Range (including the 5% NPWI): 

• SAP I: $88,932.48 – $108,086.16 annually 
• SAP II: $98,629.44 - $119,945.28 annually

This salary range(s) includes an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation. Actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates’ qualifications and experience.

 

This is a temporary (Overstrength) position that is anticipated to be funded through June 30, 2026, subject to further extension as appropriate. If this position is not extended through the budget process, the city may seek to place you in other internal job opportunities based on your previous work experience. 

 

This position is part of the Technology Services Division team but is assigned to ACS and fully dedicated to supporting ACS technology functions, including both application and desktop support. This is an individual contributor role that requires a commitment to building and maintaining quality data, strong attention to detail, excellent customer service, understanding of ACS business processes and workflows, and deep understanding of Chameleon software and backend database.

 

Under the direction of a senior team member, the SAP I/II will maintain the Chameleon application and underlying data, build and maintain dashboards and reports, and provide desktop support to ACS users. Key responsibilities and duties may include but are not limited to the following:

 

• Provide end-to-end support for the Chameleon application, including creating user accounts, assigning privileges, providing user training, troubleshooting and resolving issues, and maintaining documentation.
• Perform regular data validation checks on Chameleon backend data to ensure integrity. Identify and correct data issues and provide direction to users associated with recurring data errors.
• Roll out Chameleon modules to rescue partners and volunteers. Onboard users and providing ongoing support and maintenance of web-based modules.
• Develop dashboards and reports from Chameleon and ancillary data sources, ensuring validity and integrity of data presented and alignment with other dashboards and reports.
• Manage inventory of approx. 200 Crystal Reports and develop thorough understanding of how they are used. Serve as SME to vet all requests for new reports or modifications to ensure consistency across reports and avoid duplication.
• Provide regular training sessions and Chameleon office hours to promote proper use of the software and valid data entry across the organization.
• Meet with end users to understand requirements for new capabilities, reports, or workflows. Design and build using available tools in the PW technology stack, and/or collaborate with software vendors to enhance system capabilities and ensure optimal use.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive standard operating procedures for data management and tech workflows and functions.
• Provide desktop and mobile device support to ACS staff, including imaging, installing, and configuring new devices; maintaining asset inventory; troubleshooting device issues; and setting up equipment and providing general IT support for offsite events.  

To effectively carry out this role, the ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience:

• Expert knowledge of Chameleon software, its underlying database, and data management workflows.
• Knowledge of T-SQL and ability to develop complex queries for data validation and reporting.
• Proficiency with analytics and reporting tools, preferably, Crystal Reports and Tableau.
• Experience supporting web-based and client/server applications.
• Experience providing desktop support for Win 11 and iOS devices.
• Proactive attitude, excellent communication skills, and persistence to track down answers needed to complete projects or resolve issues.
• Familiarity with animal shelter operations, business workflows, and data collection is highly desired.

The Department:

The Santa Clara City Library is a department of the City and has positioned itself as a dynamic community hub, providing access to information, literacy resources, educational programming, and promotes civic engagement in Santa Clara. The Library Department is organized into seven divisions: Administration, Adult Services, Branch Services, Customer Services, Facilities, Technical and Technology Services and Youth Services. Santa Clara City Library is in the process of finalizing and implementing its new Strategic Plan that will support the direction of future library services.

 

The Position:

This is a paraprofessional supervisory position in the classified service. Positions in this class are responsible for the supervision and direction of a work unit comprised of paraprofessional, clerical and/or Library Page staff. This recruitment is to fill a position at the Northside Branch Library. The person in the position will work closely with the Northside Library Program Coordinator in maintaining and improving day to day operations, customer service, effective material circulation and distribution, scheduling staff and volunteers, and may act as the back-up person in charge.  May also develop and support branch programming with librarians. This person should have strong communication skills, a team mindset and community-based outlook.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum Education Requirements:

Completion of sixty (60) semester units or ninety (90) quarter units from a college or university.

 

Minimum Experience Requirements:

Three (3) years’ experience in customer or public service; paraprofessional library work; communication or digital communication; library technical services that may include ordering, procurement, cataloging, maintaining financial records and vendor engagement; community outreach or bookmobile operation. Of the required experience one (1) year shall include supervising the work of others or as a project leader AND one (1) year of experience must involve customer or public service or paraprofessional library work.

 

Acceptable Substitution:

• Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on the basis of one (1) year of experience for thirty (30) semester units or forty-five (45) quarter units up to two (2) years.

 

• Completion of an Associate of Arts degree in Library Technology may substitute for the required education, plus one (1) year of the required experience. This experience shall not be substituted for the one (1) year of experience supervising the work of others or as a project leader OR one (1) year of experience involving customer or public service or paraprofessional library work.

 

License/Certifications:

Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license is required at time of appointment and for the duration of employment.

The Department

The Human Services Department (HSD) delivers and supports services by forging long-term community partnerships; engaging with and building the capacity of the community to do its own problem-solving; and leveraging financial and volunteer resources.

The Position

The Clinical Supervisor will provide clinical and administrative leadership to the Aging and Family Services Division. The mission of the Aging and Family Services Division is to foster a high quality of life for older adults through its Senior Support Services. The Senior Support Services employs a team of caring professionals from diverse backgrounds which include social workers, a public health nurse, counselors, and peers who will work closely with other department staff to provide cohesive wrap-around services for older adults and their families.

The Position
Under general or direct supervision, performs a wide variety of law enforcement duties involving crime prevention and investigation, protection of life and property, and enforcement of laws, codes, and ordinances; performs investigation duties, assists in the preparation of cases and testifies in court; cooperates with other law enforcement agencies and City departments; may provide lead direction for subordinate departmental employees and volunteers; provides information and assistance to the public; and performs related duties as assigned.

Community Oriented Policing
The Foster City Police Department is centered on the philosophy of Community Oriented Policing. There is an expectation that all employees will provide excellent service to the public, every call, every contact, every day. As with all employees, the Police Corporal is expected to make non-enforcement contacts with the public in an effort to more clearly identify the needs of the community, and to assist the public in solving community problems. 

Class Characteristics
This is a lead-level class in the sworn officer series responsible for performing a wide variety of law enforcement tasks in support of a municipal police department. Incumbents perform the full range of duties as assigned, working independently, and exercising judgment and initiative. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. This class is distinguished from Police Sergeant in that the latter exercises technical and functional direction over and provides training to lower-level staff on an assigned shift.

Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade; successful completion of 30 semester units of college course work at an accredited institution.  An Associate's degree or higher is desirable. The minimum education requirements may be met by the possession of an Intermediate Post Certificate.

Experience: Possession of a POST Basic Certificate at the time of application. 

Licenses and Certifications:

• Possession of a valid California Driver’s License, and a good driving record, to be maintained
  throughout employment.
• Possession of a valid Basic Certificate issued by the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST). 
• Possession and maintenance of firearms qualification.

Selection Process
Applications will be reviewed for relevant education, experience, training and other job related qualifications. Based upon a review of employment applications and supplemental questionnaires received, a limited number of the qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the examination process. 

The process will consist of four Oral Panel Interview (Technical - weighted 30%; Tactical - weighted 30%; Community - weighted 30%; and Presentation - weighted 10%). An eligibility list will be established from those who pass the examination process with a score of 80% or higher. Current and future vacancies may be filled from this list. The list will remain in effect for at least one year unless exhausted sooner. 

The department will invite the most qualified candidates from the eligibility list to a final department interview. The Police department will make the hiring decision.

The role of Clinics Manager is integral to the mission and vision of San Mateo Medical Center. We are seeking two clinic managers who will operate under the general direction of the Deputy Director of Ambulatory Care. The clinic managers plan, coordinate, direct, manage, supervise and evaluate the full range of programs and services offered at the community-based health clinics; recommend, develop, implement and evaluate goals, objectives, policies and procedures related to clinics; provide leadership and coordination to community groups, public and private agencies, advisory boards and volunteers in planning and implementing clinic services; and provide highly complex staff support to senior-level management. The clinic managers also lead and participate in complex performance improvement activities; develop systems to track the progress of strategic initiatives, departmental operational goals, and communicate progress in key forums; develop productive relationships with labor partners while navigating operational needs and developing and sustaining effective employee engagement processes. The clinic managers exercise direct and indirect supervision over a diversified clinical and support staff team.

The ideal candidates will have working knowledge of clinic operations, particularly in outpatient clinics that offer primary care, adolescent care, and pediatrics, as well as in budgeting and scheduling. The ideal candidates will also be experienced in change management, improving patient satisfaction scores, and continuous process improvement (Lean). Experience in a public/safety net clinic is highly desirable. The ideal candidates will also have the ability to lead complex performance activities.

Examples Of Duties

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Plan, direct, monitor, coordinate and evaluate the operations and service delivery programs of a regional health clinic or clinics, including needs assessment, program design and planning, implementation, evaluation, and regulatory enforcement.

• Direct, coordinate, and participate in the development and implementation of program goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and priorities that balance both mandated services and community health care needs.

• Assess the quality of patient care; develop and generate community support for changes or enhancements to service delivery methods; advocate for patients with medical staff to ensure appropriate care is provided.

• Monitor census/patient flow and project future patient care demands; develop staffing schedules and assignments to provide the necessary level and type of care.

• Develop, present, and advocate for clinic funding; administer and monitor the approved budget to ensure the accomplishment of clinic care objectives within budget restrictions.

• Act as liaison between senior-level management, advisory boards and commissions, regulatory bodies, and program staff to ensure that all appropriate policies and guidelines are followed, and that programs are funded with adequate resources to maintain mandated and expected levels of service.

• Maintain an effective working relationship with a variety of public and private organizations, including other Health Services Agency staff, County departments, and agencies.

• Consult with other program managers on relevant program issues; develop alternative strategies for dealing with community health needs and assist in the implementation of solutions as necessary.

• Act as advocate and spokesperson in the community in support of programs and services; interpret, explain, and direct the enforcement of community health-related standards, codes, and regulations.

• Provide highly complex staff assistance to senior-level management and related commissions and advisory boards on program issues.

• Prepare a wide variety of detailed written reports, policies, procedures, and contracts.

• Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is:

• Three years of administrative or managerial experience in a healthcare delivery, social, or community services organization, including significant responsibility for one or more of the following: program and budget development, program service delivery, funding, utilization, coordination of community resources, or program evaluation.

Essential Duties

 

What you will do:  

Duties may include but are not limited to the following:
 
Feeds, cares for, evaluates behavior, adopts, redeems, and performs euthanasia on impounded animals.
 
Receives animals at the Shelter, isolating those showing signs of disease from healthy ones.
 
Vaccinates animals as they are received and administers medicine under instructions from a veterinarian; prepares identification collars and places on animals for accurate records.
 
Responds to questions from the public about animal breeds, temperament and adoptions;  advises public on appropriate choices for adoption and the proper care, treatment and control of animals.
 
Cleans, disinfects and maintains kennels and kennel area; performs dishwashing and laundering tasks.
 
Maintains a computerized log and record of all animals at shelter.
 
Reports any animals exhibiting symptoms of ill health or communicable disease.
 
Maintains inventories and supplies of food, medicines and controlled drugs, completing the necessary forms.

Assists in supervising volunteers.
 
Lifts and loads animals weighing up to seventy-five pounds.
 
Performs related tasks as required.

Minimum Qualifications

 

You have:  

Any combination equivalent to experience and training that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:  

Experience:   Six (6) months experience involving customer contact and six months experience in handling animals.
 
Education:  Equivalent to completion of twelfth (12th) Grade or High School equivalency.

License:    Possession and maintenance of a valid Class C California Driver's License.
