This recruitment will be used to fill positions at the Main Library and the Grand Avenue Branch Library.

DEPARTMENT:

The Library department is comprised of three service areas: The Main Library, Grand Avenue Branch, and Literacy Services at Project Read and Community Learning Center. The Library department is actively committed to providing the best possible combination of library materials and services to meet the informational, educational and recreational needs of our multicultural community, in a professional manner, with a human touch.

POSITION:
Under general supervision, performs a variety of clerical, technical, and paraprofessional duties in acquisitions, cataloging, classification, circulation, patron services, reference, and literacy services; assignments may entail substantial amounts of data entry and retrieval, technical assistance to patrons with printing, use of the public computers and MakerSpace equipment; incumbents may direct the work of part-time and volunteer staff; leading and supporting programs.

TYPICAL DUTIES: (may include but are not limited to the following):

• Performs a variety of service desk functions, including patron account management, checking in/out materials, assisting with self-check equipment, processing payments and reserves, and responding to patron inquiries.
• Assists patrons in locating and using library materials and equipment; explains library services, policies, and procedures; answers basic reference questions using online catalogs, indexes, and other bibliographic tools.
• Orders, receives, and processes library materials in all formats; maintains accurate acquisition and inventory records.
• Develops, presents, and/or supports library programs, community outreach activities, and informational displays.
• Performs general clerical tasks such as monitoring supplies, processing mail, handling payments, maintaining records, and managing files.
• Opens and/or closes the library facility following established procedures.
• May train, schedule, and oversee the work of part-time and volunteer staff.
• Supports the delivery of educational programs for adults and/or children, including tutoring, homework help, story time, and instructional programming.
• Assists in conducting assessments to track participant progress and program effectiveness.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: One year of clerical or paraprofessional experience, preferably in a library, literacy, or educational setting.

Training: Equivalent to graduation from high school.

The Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) is a 15.7 MDG sub-regional facility that serves an estimated 164,545 customers  administering the annual operation and maintenance budget over $12.8 million with a staff of 34 professional and technical personnel.  The City of San Mateo is building a team tasked with the safe and continuous operation of the current expansion of this conventional activated sludge plant by introducing new facilities including; preliminary treatment, primary treatment, enhanced biological nutrient removal/membrane bioreactors (BNR/MBR), biological and chemically enhanced treatment (BioACTIFLO), and additional upgrades to existing process equipment. A vital and instrumental member of this team is the WWTP Operator III.

The Position

This position will receive general direction from the Chief Plant Operator and instruction from their Shift Supervisor to provide daily guidance to lower level operators and trainees. The WWTP Operator III will be responsible for supporting these efforts to guide, develop and mentor staff on their assigned shift, act in a supervisory capacity in the absence of the Shift Supervisor, and is the assigned lead in getting both scheduled and unscheduled work completed. Those who have prepared themselves and are ready for the challenge to use their skills as a journey-level wastewater professional should seriously consider this opportunity.

This position is assigned rotating shifts working nights, weekends, and holidays with on-call emergency response 24 hours per day.  However, along with this challenge is the benefit of working  a 12-hour shift that results in a very favorable work/life balance and requires the minimum commuting days as compared to other standard 8-hour shifts.

The Duties

Depending upon assignment, duties may include, but are not limited to the following.

Operate wastewater treatment facilities to control flow and processing of wastewater, sludge and effluent; monitor gauges, meters and control panels; observe variation in operating conditions, interpreting meter and gauge readings and test results to determine process requirements.

• Operate valves and gates; start and stop pumps, engines and electric motors to control and adjust flow and treatment processes; operate and maintain boilers; perform routine maintenance work on valves, tanks, related equipment and facilities to optimize performance.
• Maintain appropriate plant records to support water quality goals.
• Perform the duties of the Designated Operator-in-Charge when required in accordance with State regulations.
• Operate rolling vehicles and stationary machinery as required to perform essential job functions.
• Foster and maintain good working relationships and provide excellent customer service in the course of their work.
• Assist in the inventory, requisition, and purchase of supplies and materials.
• Supervise and train less experienced operators on assigned shift.

The County of San Mateo's Department of Public Works is seeking applications for the position of Electrician. 

 

Electricians are responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems and equipment in and around County buildings. This position requires the ability to work independently in different locations with minimal supervision. While much of the work is performed independently, the Construction Services section is characterized by a strong sense of teamwork and camaraderie.

Construction Services Section
Construction Services offers specialized crafts services that go beyond routine maintenance provided by the Facilities Operations and Maintenance section. We partner with the County and Cities to deliver carpentry, graffiti abatement, and lighting district services. Our skilled team, including craftsmen, maintenance workers, utility workers, and office support staff, handles diverse tasks from remodels to new construction projects. The ideal candidate for this position will have:

• Eight or more years of experience performing Journey-level facilities maintenance electrical work.
• A Journeyman's Electrician Card (certificate).
• Excellent computer skills including familiarity with mobile applications.

San Mateo County Health is seeking an experienced individual for the position of Public Health Clinics Strategic Projects Manager. This management position will report to the Public Health Clinics Manager, overseeing Edison Clinics and Mobile Clinics and will have broad project management responsibility for key strategic efforts affecting the Public Health clinics.
 
There is currently one regular vacancy in the Public Health, Policy and Planning Division located in San Mateo, CA.
 
Primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:  

• Quality assurance and improvement:  build and visualize data in management reports and dashboards; convert data to information and use it to guide process improvement.
• Process improvement:  facilitate, document, track, organize, measure progress; e.g., conduct improvement work within daily huddles.
• Project management:  lead projects and provide ad hoc support of projects.
• Knowledge management:  inventory and maintain infrastructure of core programmatic documents and processes, how files are stored and shared.

The County Executive’s Office is seeking highly qualified candidates for the position of County Procurement Program Services Manager II.

The Procurement Division of the County Executive’s Office provides procurement services to all County departments and acts as a regulatory mechanism to help county departments obtain maximum value for each dollar spent, while maintaining compliance with all relevant County, State, and Federal laws, ordinances, and policies.   The Procurement Division (Division) also connects with and assists vendors in conducting business with the County.   

The Division successfully operates under several ordinances, codes, and policies designed to heighten worker standard of living, support local business, protect tax-payor dollars, and support eco-friendly practices.  The following are examples:

• The Living Wage Ordinance sets a minimum wage, which contractors are required to pay employees providing services under County contracts.  
• To support interested vendors, the Procurement Division offers a variety of trainings that review and explain the County’s Request for Proposals (RFP) process, contracting, and OpenGov.  
• The Procurement Division follows a Code of Ethical Conduct to ensure that expenditures of public funds, through the procurement and contracting process, occur in an ethical and responsible manner.

The Position

The Program Services Manager II (PSM II) will have the opportunity to coordinate the day-to-day operations of the office including managing staff, overseeing OpenGov - the County’s electronic procurement system, developing and facilitating special projects, such as the Vendor Fair and Procurement Academy, collaborating with the cities in San Mateo County regarding procurement and purchasing services, and updating policies and procedures, including the Procurement Handbook.  

The PSM II will supervise and manage a dedicated team within the Division. In addition, the PSM II will develop and deliver trainings, act as procurement consultant to all county departments and special districts, and work to increase office efficiency and effectiveness.  The PSM II will be part of the management team helping lead the dedicated team of lead, professional, technical, and clerical subject matter experts committed to exceptional customer service and fair, open, competitive, timely, and ethical procurement practices.

We recognize the skills and commitment that come with specialized roles. Officers in these assignments receive additional compensation:

• Detective / School Resource Officer – 2.5% of base salary

• Motorcycle Officer – 2.5% of base salary

• Field Training Officer – 2% of base salary

• Bilingual Pay – Up to $150/month

• K-9 Handler – Receive 7 hours of overtime per pay period

• IT Super User – 5% of base salary

As a Police Officer Recruit, you’ll be paid while attending the police academy—with the full support of the department as you complete your training.

DEFINITION: Under general supervision the aide assists in planning, organizing, and implementing preschool programming for children ages 3-5 years old. Program hours are M-F PM 8:30am – 1:00pm and/or MWF 8:30am - 1:00pm. Approximately 15 – 30 hours a week. Substitute and floating positions also available 8:30am - 1:00pm. 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

• Assists in the development, coordination, planning, implementing and supervising the day-to-day activities, themes and special events for an ongoing preschool program.
• Create and maintain a safe, challenging and creative environment.
• Supervise and engage preschool students during preschool hours.
• Demonstrate excellent customer service and communicate effectively with co-workers, parents, and children.
• Maintain registration, attendance, and activity records; ensure the proper pick-up/drop-off of children. 
• Encourage good behavior, appropriate manners, read books and provide a safe and nurturing environment.
• Implement and lead appropriate activities for preschool-aged children.
• Possess strong leadership skills in one or more of the following areas: art, crafts, sports, drama, cooking.
• Motivate children by example; create and maintain a positive environment.
• Must be a team player and have the ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
• Practice proper hygiene, with self and children, to deter the spread of disease (colds, flu, etc).
• Render first aid in case of minor injuries.
• Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing.
• The ability to speak English clearly and understandably.
• Perform related duties as required.
• Must be able to lift 50lbs

TRAINING & EXPERIENCE: Any combination of education, training, and experience, which likely provides the required knowledge and abilities.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS: Candidates receiving a conditional job offer must pass a pre-placement fingerprint review. Candidate must provide a TB negative test result document. Candidates must possess a current CPR/AED and First Aid certificate and be comfortable calling 911 in an emergency.
