This is a seasonal, part-time position for the Parks & Grounds division.

 

Under the general supervision of a Public Works Streets Supervisor or Parks & Grounds Supervisor, and direction of a Maintenance II lead, incumbents in this classification assist with the cleanup and maintenance of City parks, streets, and satellite facilities including buildings, equipment, bus stops, parking lots, trails, flora and landscapes; and perform related work as required.

 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (illustrative only):

Duties may include, but are not limited to:

• Emptying garbage cans.
• Picking up litter and other illegal dumping.
• Raking and spreading material including, but not limited to, asphalt, mulch, gravel, and soil.
• Collecting shopping carts.
• Removing weeds by hand or using tools.
• Driving vehicles to and from jobsite.
• Digging soil, baserock, concrete grindings, or other loose material as assigned.
• Using hand tools to complete assigned tasks.
• May work in right-of-way near traffic.

DESCRIPTION

The City of Thousand Oaks is hiring an enthusiastic and motivated part-time Human Resources Assistant (Hourly City Worker) to join our team!   This is a great opportunity for someone who is interested in pursuing a career in the public sector. The Human Resources Assistant  will perform a variety of clerical, office, and administrative support functions to support the Human Resources Department.  

The part-time Human Resources Assistant will be the first point of contact for the department and will interact with a diverse group of internal and external customers. The Building Inspector Combination/Certified I/II/III/Senior position will be located subject to business need. This position will provide inspection support at a variety of City of San José facilities, including the Airport, Regional Wastewater Facility and Central Service Yard.  

Key responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to the following:  

• Conduct inspections of industrial, commercial, manufacturing, and facilities to ensure compliance with codes, regulations, ordinances, standards, and contract agreements which includes setting up inspection schedules; gathering information and evidence; and, ensuring conformance to plans, specifications, and safety regulations.   

• Investigate building, construction, and land use changes in the field by gathering factual data to ascertain present use of land and location of structures; conducting background investigations and research; and preparing reports to use as evidence.   

• Provide technical assistance for development of codes and policies.

With responsibility over streets, storm drains, wastewater collection, water distribution, public facilities, and engineering, the department is committed to providing responsive, high-quality service, and plays a vital role in keeping the city safe, clean, and functional.

 

Under immediate supervision, part-time maintenance assistants perform a range of unskilled and semiskilled tasks that support the day-to-day upkeep of the City’s infrastructure. This is a part-time, temporary position with the Public Works Department (18-20 hours per week) to support the City’s “Cleanup San Bruno” initiative.

 

Examples of duties may include, but are not limited to:

• Cleans and removes debris and litter from parking lots, streets, gutters, storm drains, catch basins, and sidewalks, by shoveling, raking, sweeping, and picking up debris.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education, experience, and training that would provide the best qualified candidates. Applicants should have the ability to read, write and carry out oral and written directions. Applicants should also have the ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. Ideal candidates will have knowledge of proper use and care of common hand tools, skills performing manual work, and lifting heavy objects up to 50 pounds. • Applicants selected to move forward in the process may be asked to participate in any combination of the following (at any phase of the selection process): a written examination, job related exercise, physical test or job simulation, phone interview, in-person or video interview(s), and/or web-based testing.
• The final phase of the selection process is the probationary period, which in most cases is one year, depending on your classification.
