The Intern performs routine and/or general assistance tasks with variable difficulty. Depending on the project, the incumbent could work within the City Manager’s Office, Administration, Finance, Community Development, and Public Works departments. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to network with professionals in local government, and to observe firsthand the efforts of the City to resolve complex issues of policy and governance.

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor/coordinator, the Pool Manager is responsible for supervising and directing the aquatics program and staff, and implementing and coordinating specific aquatic programs, including meeting the program objectives. This is an at-will, intermittent, part-time, hourly position without City-paid benefits. Work a flexible work schedule, which may include evening, weekdays, weekends and holidays.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

1. Create, plan and coordinate all daily activities and special events of assigned pool.

2. Assign and schedule pool staff.

3. Perform lifesaving practices and standards according to accepted industry standards.

4. Train and supervise staff and volunteers on assigned duties.

5. Meet program goals and objectives, collect and maintain relevant statistical records and data.

6. Accurately and timely complete pertinent record keeping, reports, testing and program paperwork according to established guidelines.

7. Perform daily pool opening and closing activities according to established guidelines.

8. Act in capacity of pool lifeguard.

9. Responsible for maintaining on-site security and safety of participants, staff, and others in the pool area, preparation and maintenance of incident records.

10. Enforce City and program rules and guidelines and conduct necessary discipline of staff and volunteers. 11. Train the Assistant Pool Manager to function as manager in the absence of the Pool Manager.

12. Maintain a safe and clean swimming pool environment.

13. Maintain personal fitness sufficient to perform the required duties.

14. Conduct and attend pertinent staff meetings as required during the season.

15. Perform other program-related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

The following generally describes the knowledge and ability required to enter the job and/or be learned within a short period of time in order to successfully perform the assigned duties. Minimum Requirement: Possession of a high school diploma or GED certificate. Ability to: Work a flexible work schedule, which may include evening, weekdays, weekends and holidays. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Learn pertinent City rules, policies, ordinances and program requirements. Maintain timely and accurate reports pertinent to the aquatics program. Learn basic pool chemistry. Understand and carry out oral and written directions. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted during the course of work.

Education and Experience Guidelines - Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education/Training: Demonstrated swimming skills that meet the American Red Cross guidelines for aquatics program personnel.

Experience: Two years experience as a swim instructor/lifeguard at a public swimming facility; one year at an Assistant Pool Manager-level preferred. Prior experience working with age-appropriate groups. Familiarity with modern office methods, procedures and equipment. License or

Certificate: Possession of a valid driver's license. Possession of valid certificates from the American Red Cross in Lifeguard Training, Title 22, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, and Standard First Aid; Water Safety Instructor certificate is desirable.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction.

Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.

THE POSITION:     

Under the direction of the Pool Manager, the Assistant Pool Manager is responsible for assigned aquatic program areas, and acts as Pool Manager during the Pool Manager’s absence. The Assistant Manager assists in the direction and supervision of the staff and programs at the facility. This is an at-will, intermittent, part-time, hourly position. Work a flexible work schedule, which may include evening, weekdays, weekends and holidays

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Acts as Pool Manager in the absence of same.
• Assist with pool staff assignments and scheduling.

Summary Description

Under immediate supervision (Water Distribution Operator I) or general supervision (Water Distribution Operator II), performs skilled maintenance, repair, and construction work on the potable water treatment and distribution system of the water utilities services division; operates maintenance and construction tools and equipment; performs a variety of maintenance tasks relative to water distribution and treatment.

Water Distribution Operator I: This is the entry level class in the Water Distribution Operator series. This class is distinguished from the Water Distribution Operator II by the performance of the more routine tasks and duties assigned to workers in this series. Employees at this level are not expected to perform with the same independence of direction and judgment on matters related to City established procedures and guidelines as are positions allocated to the II level. Since this class is typically used as a training class, employees may have only limited or indirectly related work experience. Employees work under immediate supervision while learning job tasks.

Water Distribution Operator II: This is the full journey level class within the Water Distribution Operator series. This class is distinguished from the Water Distribution Operator I by the assignment of the full range of duties assigned. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise, and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies within the work unit. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from level I.

ABOUT THE POSITION

Under general direction of the Finance Officer, this position performs professional and technical work of a confidential nature in the area of general accounting. This position assists with the day-to-day accounting and financial operations of the District, including accounts payable functions, deposits, maintenance of accounting and payroll records, and other tasks as assigned.

The City is recruiting for up to two full-time Senior Management Analyst I/II or Management Analysts, who will join a team of talented Analysts across City Departments. In addition to establishing a list for future analyst vacancies, the City is also currently recruiting to fill an analyst vacancy within the Community Services Division and the City Manager's Office. These positions provide professional, advanced staff-level assistance to executive or other management level staff, performing a wide variety of responsible and complex administrative and analytic duties within their Department and cross-departmentally.

The City Manager’s Office consists of the City Manager, Assistant City Managers, Community Services division, Parking division, and Sustainability division. • Knowledge of the national landscape of homelessness assistance programs, including federal and state regulations, evidence-based practices, and HMIS data and metrics.
• Experience in human services, homelessness or housing programs, behavioral health, public health, or a related field.
• Strong understanding of social, economic, and political issues affecting low-income children, families, and communities, particularly in the context of homelessness assistance programs.
