Under supervision, a Police Cadet is a non-sworn, part-time classification that assists police personnel in a variety of operations in order to gain practical knowledge of law enforcement. They will obtain practical work experience that supports their career goals.

Employees in this classification may receive training and experience in each of the below duties.

CLASS CHARACTERISITICS:

Incumbents in this position are interested in law enforcement (and the Union City Police Department will provide the opportunity to learn various aspects of police work where they can integrate academic philosophies with practical experience. This position will provide incumbents on-the-job training and the ability to develop professional networking relationships for future service in government or law enforcement.

Positions assigned to Records may be responsible for:

• Copying, indexing, assembling, filing, distributing, and retrieving various documents files, records, and reports.
• Providing information to individuals at the front counter or over the phone.
• Conducting transactions from cash drawer for purchasing reports.
• Inputting, tracking, retrieving, accessing, and purging data in various logs, systems, and databases.

Positions assigned to Animal Control may be responsible for:

• Transporting animals to the shelter or if injured to the veterinary hospital.
• Disposing of deceased animals.
• Quarantining animals that have bitten people and complete associated forms.
• Investigating cruelty to animal calls.
• Placing animals under protective custody.
• Drafting animal control citations.
• Appearing and testifying in court when subpoenaed.

Positions assigned to Parking Enforcement and Vehicle Abatement may be responsible for:

• Patrolling an assigned area by vehicle or on foot to ensure public compliance with existing parking ordinances.
• Maintaining communication with dispatch.
• Writing warnings and citations for illegally parked vehicles.
• Observing and reporting hazardous conditions such as missing traffic signals, signs, and street markings that need to be repainted.
• Maintaining assigned equipment and supplies such as hand-held citation computers, citation books, rain gear, street cones, flares, etc.
• Performing traffic control duties such as setting up barricades and temporary signs, directing traffic, and placing inoperative bags on broken parking meters.

Positions assigned to Fleet Maintenance may be responsible for:

• Reviewing and reporting vehicle deficiencies.
• Scheduling repair of vehicles and equipment.
• Transporting vehicles and equipment to repair shop.
• Arranging for tows.
• Entering and maintaining vehicle inventory/status log.
• Coordinating service, oil changes, and cleaning of vehicles.
• Maintaining supplies such as stocking first aid kits, fingerprint kits and flares, ensuring fire extinguishers are full and appropriately charged, etc.
• Registering undercover vehicles with DMV.

The Newark Recreation and Community Services Department is looking for Senior Lifeguards for our fantastic swim lesson and aquatic programs and the upcoming to work at the year-round Silliman Activity & Family Aquatic Center. We are looking for positive, patient, motivated, self-driven individuals that have a passion for working in aquatics and with children, who wish to make a difference in a child's life by teaching them lifelong water skills! Swimming experience is required. Additional program training will be provided once hired. The Position

The City of Hayward is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer - Water and Wastewater [Formal Title: Senior Utilities Engineer] with a water and/or wastewater background to supervise, direct, plan, and coordinate the activities of the Utilities Division. The Senior Civil Engineer - Water and Wastewater  is a mid-management level position that performs, oversees, and directs engineering activities including planning, conceptual design, final design, cost estimating, project bidding, services during construction and construction management for a variety of projects in wastewater treatment, water storage and distribution, sewer collection, and storm water management. This position will serve as a key member of the team that will manage and deliver a $300 million treatment system upgrade for the City's Water Pollution Control Facility (WPCF) to incorporate nutrient removal into the treatment process.

DEFINITION
Under general direction, supervise, direct, plan, and coordinate the assigned functions and activities of the Engineering Section of the Utilities Division.
 
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is a mid-management level position that performs, oversees, and directs all assigned activities of the Utilities engineering section, including planning, conceptual design, final design, cost estimating, project bidding process, services during construction and construction management for variety of projects in water distribution, sewer collection, stormwater management, and wastewater treatment.  This position is distinguished from that of subordinate Associate Civil Engineer position by its responsibility for the supervision of assigned engineering and technical staff, in addition to engineering and technical responsibilities for project development, design, and construction management for more complex projects.  This position is distinguished from Deputy Director of Public Works for Utilities by the latter position's overall responsibility for all aspects of the Utilities Division functions.
 
 

Essential Duties

What you will do:

Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

1. Assists in the development and implementation of the Engineering Section's goals, objectives, policies and priorities.
 
2. Plans, organizes, controls and evaluates the assigned functions and activities of the Engineering Section of the Utilities Division.
 
3. Provides direct and close supervision in the preparation of assigned master plans and studies that outline future water, wastewater and drainage requirements.
 
4. Prepares drawings, models, and displays for special studies and reports completed by the Utilities Division, and explores and studies the preparation of area wide master plans guiding future installations of major water and sewer facilities.
 
5. Directs the work and provides general supervision in the preparation of plans, specifications, cost estimates and the administration of contracts for small construction projects in utilities (e.g., small water main, sewer main and storm drainage projects).

6. Revises and updates standard specifications and details related to water and wastewater utilities.
 
7. Checks plans prepared by other agencies for conflict with the City's existing and proposed utilities systems.
 
8. Consults with and advises other City employees on utilities engineering matters.
 
9. Participates in the selection and supervision of private professional engineers for the development of plans and specifications, studies and reports.
 
10. Coordinates utilities engineering related activities with Engineering & Transportation Division, other City departments, divisions, and sections and with outside agencies.
 
11. Prepares reports and makes recommendations on the Utilities Division's portion of the City's capital improvement program.
 
12. Develops and recommends an annual budget and priority for assigned utilities projects.
 
13. Consults with contractors, builders, and engineers on problems relating to the design, construction, and maintenance of assigned utilities facilities.
 
14. Coordinates construction management of the Utilities Division's projects with the Engineering and Transportation Division staff.
 
15. Consults with and advises the Deputy Director on issues relating to the Utilities Engineer's particular function.

17. Prepares project statements outlining scope of projects, design criteria, available data, background, scheduling coordination, and financing for utilities projects.

Experience:  Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in professional engineering work in the design and construction of water and wastewater projects including one (1) year of supervisory or lead experience.
 
Education:   Bachelor's degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university in civil engineering, or a closely related field with major work in civil engineering.  A master's degree is desirable.
 
Licenses and Certificates: 

1. Possession and maintenance of a certificate of registration as a Professional Engineer (Civil or Mechanical) in the State of California.  

2. Possession and maintenance of a valid Class C California driver's license.

The Position

The City of Fremont’s Human Services Department is currently looking for temporary employees to work evening shifts, from 4:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. From December 1st through April 30th, 2024, the City of Fremont will operate the Winter Relief Program to provide a safe and welcoming  environment  for  individuals and families experiencing homelessness. • This position is responsible for maintaining the health and safety of homeless individuals and families who are living on the streets or in their cars and need emergency shelter from cold weather and rain.
• Welcome all new program participants and work compassionately with those who may have difficulty engaging with service providers.
• Effectively resolve conflicts among participants and de‐escalate potentially violent situations.
• Maintain a friendly, safe, and supportive environment by ensuring participant adherence to program rules, especially related to behaviors that may be unsafe.
• Respond appropriately to emergencies. As necessary, notify public safety personnel. Pick up meals and personal supplies and facilitate distribution to program participants. Maintain a collaborative working relationship with hotel staff.
• Maintain accurate records including a daily sign‐in sheet.
• Daily use of email to submit detailed reports regarding participant attendance, supply needs, on-site incidents including any 911 utilization and/or emergency responder activity, and information about clients who may need additional medical or behavioral follow-up.
• Monitor and document room condition to ensure rooms are maintained in a clean and orderly fashion.

The Position

The Veterinary Technician will assist in the care of animal patients at the City’s animal shelter. Additional key responsibilities include use of medical care equipment, as well as moving and handling domestic animals and wildlife. The Department

The Position

The Park Ranger/Naturalist will provide information and assistance to the public, as well as enforce laws, rules, regulations, and the Fremont Municipal Code. The primary focus of the position will be to assist with implementing the initiatives of the Homeless Task Force. Additionally, the incumbent may conduct natural resource protection and environmental education programs.

• Work in prescribed uniform and is responsible for general patrol and supervision of City of Fremont’s parks, plazas and trails.
• Interact and engage with unhoused populations on a daily basis, providing guidance and encouragement, enforcing laws and regulations and connecting community members with service providers.
• Perform homeless response strategies and mitigation efforts, such as posting notice to abate nuisance tags, collection on unattended property and removal of debris.
• Provide assistance and act as a liaison to the public, responding to questions concerning park and recreation facilities, programs, policies, and rules and regulations.

Under the supervision of a Human Services Department Homeless Care and Response Senior Program Coordinator, the Public Service Assistant II supports the provision of mobile dignity services, which include showers and laundry services, at one or more sites, to unhoused participants in the Fremont  and Newark area. The job includes driving a truck and hygiene unit trailer with a combined length of up to 51 feet, to one or more sites daily, and carrying out set-up, operating, and maintenance tasks. Other duties include working with site-based volunteers to coordinate shower usage, provide shower amenities, distribute clothing and other necessities, operate washing and drying machines, register unhoused participants who will be utilizing the service, maintain the daily usage count, and conduct special surveys.

This position will require up to 20 hours of work per week.

Coordination Functions

• Works with the Senior Program Coordinator to partner with volunteers at multiple service sites to provide mobile shower and laundry services for unhoused participants.
• Ensures accurate completion of Homeless Management Information System (InHOUSE/HMIS) intake form by clients utilizing shower and laundry services.
• Ensures all supplies needed for services and intake are available on the unit for service delivery at each site.
• Unhoused participants will place their clothes and other personal items needing to be laundered in mesh bags. Public Service Assistant II will place mesh bags in the washer/dryer and operate machines.
• Reinforces training provided by Senior Program Coordinator to volunteers on intake and record keeping processes.
• Communicates effectively and frequently with Human Services staff and other community organizations serving the homeless to identify and make referrals for homeless clients who need assistance accessing other services.
• Prepares a daily report with general client demographics, daily usage data, and incident reports. Prepares, in writing, a variety of operating reports such driving activity reports, accident reports and maintenance reports.

Driving Functions

• Drives and operates 19-foot truck (truck), pulling a 32-foot mobile hygiene trailer (trailer) to multiple services sites.
• Sets up trailer at multiple services sites (1-2 per day), including setting front-to-back and side-to-side trailer level using stabilizer jacks and trailer tongue jack, chocking trailer wheels, connecting generator to trailer, turning on generator and opening propane gas lines, lowering ADA ramp, and setting up portable steps to facilitate access to trailer.
• Loads and unloads heavy items (such as various types of cleaning and laundry supplies). Ensures that loads are properly and safely secured.
• Responsible for basic daily maintenance of the mobile hygiene unit, including: Checking oil and fluid level, and tire pressure,
• Filling and maintaining fuel levels for truck-mounted generator,
• Filling and maintaining water levels for 400-gallon water tanks which supplies water for showers and laundry washer,
• Filling and maintaining on-board propane tanks needed to operate hot-water heaters, Periodic washing of the exterior.
• Emptying black and grey water into City corporation yard dump station or other remote dump stations, on a daily basis.
• Cleaning of interior shower units after each use by a participant; conducts periodic deep cleaning of shower units and pressure washing of exterior of unit.
• Works with City Fleet supervisor to coordinate monthly/annual automotive and chassis repairs and maintenance.
• Utilizes cell phone and tablet for information and safety.

The City of Orinda is looking for responsible, courteous individuals who enjoy working in a hands-on environment, can work independently of supervision and have experience dealing tactfully and effectively with members of the public.  The successful applicant will work on a part time basis with a schedule which will include evening and weekend hours, depending upon programs, rentals and events.   

The Facility Attendant performs custodial duties related to the care and cleaning of assigned facilities, performs a wide variety of duties for events, classes and programs, including setting up and tearing down of tables, chairs, equipment and supplies and will perform minor maintenance and repairs as needed.

EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Provide friendly and professional customer service by greeting Community Center visitors, serving as a main point of contact during activities and events primarily in evenings, weekends and special events.

Performs custodial duties at assigned facilities which include, but are not limited to cleaning, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, waxing, stripping and polishing floors; cleaning furniture, woodwork, fixtures, equipment, supplies, doors, windows, walls, walkways, driveways, and facility grounds; disposing of trash.

Set up all necessary equipment and furniture such as tables, chairs, podiums, and A/V equipment for indoor and/or outdoor events.

Inspects facilities and equipment, reports issues in a timely manner to appropriate higher-level staff; performs minor facility maintenance.

Explain and follow City and department policies and procedures.

Provide information and feedback to Facility and Parks Supervisor.

Opens, closes, secures and alarms facilities in compliance with standard procedures.

Supervise and interact with rental guests, responding by assisting with any facility needs.

Assists in monitoring and maintaining equipment and supplies.

May perform clean up duties as needed, including but not limited to:  move and arrange furniture and equipment, restroom cleaning, sweeping and mopping, and garbage pick-up and removal.

Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Equivalent to a High School Diploma.

Experience:  Experience in custodial and facility operations is desirable.

License or Certificate: Possession of a valid California Driver’s License with a demonstrated history of safe driving.

Special Requirements:

Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment:

Must be willing to work a scheduled variety of hours, which may include evenings, and/or weekends, as needed.

Sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes to enable the employee to safely lift, move, climb, walk safely on even or uneven grounds, or maneuver in whatever way may be necessary to successfully perform the duties of their position; ability to travel to different sites and locations.

Ability to pass a comprehensive background check and pre-employment medical exam.  Additionally, individuals working in Parks & Recreation are required to be tested for TB.
