The City of San Mateo Parks and Recreation Department is looking for responsible, enthusiastic, and team-oriented individuals to join our Team!

The Position:

Are you seeking a meaningful career serving youth in a diverse, multicultural community? Join our team and make a positive difference every day. The Community Services Coordinator is delegated lead responsibility for planning, implementing, and evaluating a program of activities or services within a specified program assignment, and, typically, for providing direct leadership in a portion of that assignment. This assignment may be a specifically defined programming area that is narrower in size or scope than those assigned to Supervisors or comprised of multiple delegated responsibilities. This position will coordinate programs and services for the Police Activities League (PAL). This position receives general supervision from higher-level recreation positions and may exercise functional and technical supervision over lower-level and part-time recreation personnel and volunteers.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have a valid State of California driver’s license. Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. Typical ways to obtain knowledge and abilities would be:

• Experience: Two years of responsible paid leadership experience in recreation or a related human services setting
• Training: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by college-level courses in recreation or a related field.

The candidate should know the basic principles and methods of planning, coordinating, and leading recreation and human services programs and activities. They should understand simple arithmetic and how to handle recreation equipment and materials.  A candidate should have knowledge of general office procedures and an understanding of community groups, activities, programs, and facilities. They should understand the basic principles of supervision, training, and performance evaluations. Bilingual ability in Spanish is highly desirable. A bilingual pay differential is available for candidates fluent in identified languages. Availability is required between 20 and 40 hours per week, depending on the time of year. Availability is typically Monday through Friday; however, occasional weeknights and weekends will be required for PAL special events.

Job Responsibilities:

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Instruct and lead specialized recreation and human services activities in such areas as sports, cultural arts, programs for the handicapped, senior citizens, crafts, teens and other areas of leadership requiring leadership in a structured environment.
• Provide activities and general facility supervision and control at a community recreation center or special use facility.
• Coordinate, develop, implement, and evaluate programs and services in assigned program area. Perform a variety of office related functions including program registration, answering citizen inquiries both in person and on the telephone and maintaining routine records and reports as required.
• Observe and take precautions to secure the safety of participants and spectators.
• Assist in preparing program facilities for structured program activities and special events.
• Occasional driving of City vehicles to support programmatic needs, including transporting youth participants on field trips.

DEFINITION
Under general direction, performs complex and responsible technical and clerical work for the Director of Human Resources and as administrative support to the City's Human Resources Department. Completes related work as required.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
An incumbent in this position is a Human Resources generalist performing a wide range of personnel assignments in administering and processing health and welfare benefits; managing the administrative duties associated with the Personnel Board and overseeing the preparation and management of all employee requisition and action forms; managing the office and providing administrative support to the Director of Human Resources, Assistant to the Director of Human Resources, Senior Management Analyst, the Human Resources Analyst(s) and Human Resources Specialist(s).

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Including but not limited to maintaining frequent, sensitive and critical contacts with public and private agencies, other departments, professionals and officials; transmits information, decisions and directives. Answers inquiries by phone or email; investigates and resolves complaints or provides information, explains departmental or City procedures; exercises judgment in giving information and proper disposition of problems; composes correspondence and prepares reports. Serves as Assistant for the Personnel Board, other related meetings, and disciplinary and appeal hearings by collecting, preparing, and sending agendas, taking and transcribing minutes, and typing and distributing minutes and other material. Processes and manages distribution retiree health reimbursement checks. Administers Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Pull Program, tracks employee driving records and issues quarterly department list of commercial drivers’ medical expirations. May assist in responding to internal and external surveys. May assist department personnel with data entry on applicant tracking program, proctoring Civil Service examinations, in administering certification of active Civil Service Employment Lists using applicant tracking program, and assists with City-wide events. Processes employee separations and cafeteria plan worksheets, enters employee information into ERP system, tracks employee trainings; and processes invoices.

Provides support to the Director of Human Resources, Assistant to the Director of Human Resources, Senior Management Analyst, Human Resources Analyst(s) and Human Resources Specialist(s). Administers the documentation requirements of the 1986 Immigration and Control Act. Prepares and processes required Human Resources’ forms, such as new employee forms and employee Action Forms. Assists with preparation and publication of the employee newsletter. Maintains and orders office supplies and other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Ability to: Communicates effectively both orally and in writing; speaks to and direct large groups; Interacts positively and cooperate with co-workers, responds politely to customers, works as a team member, functions under demanding time pressure, responds in a positive manner to supervision, attends work and perform duties on a regular and consistent basis. Knowledge of: Appropriate English grammar and spelling; current office equipment and methods including operation of computer programs, including advanced, competent use of Microsoft Word; record keeping and organizational practices; basic arithmetic; and certain federal, state and municipal personnel regulations.

Education: Graduation from high school or equivalent and an Associate of Arts (AA) degree.

Experience: A minimum of two years of experience in administrative and Human Resources technical work that involved regular contact with the public.

License: Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License.

POSITION DESCRIPTION 
 

The City of San Bruno Community Services Departments is hiring for a Library Page position at the San Bruno Public Library. The Library Page position is an entry-level, part-time role with limited benefits. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in playing a key role in the library's daily operations. Candidates must have a flexible schedule and be available to work 14-19 hours per week, including weekdays, evenings, and Saturdays, to meet the library's scheduling needs.

Under the general supervision of library staff, Library Pages perform routine tasks to maintain the organization of the library collections, including the shelving, sorting, and filing of books, magazines, audiovisual materials, and other library materials. Pages also clean and mend library materials, help set-up for various Library programs, assist in the opening and closing of the Library building for public access, and perform other clerical tasks as needed.

This role is physically active and requires regular movement and exertion. The ideal candidate will be comfortable performing physical tasks for extended periods and working in a fast-paced environment. Immediate Opening for Per Diem Library Assistant I (Circulation Services)

THE POSITION: The San Mateo Public Library is seeking an energetic individual to provide a wide variety of library support work. Duties include but are not limited to the following: respond to patron in-person and telephone requests for library materials, services and information; check out library materials to patrons; check in and prepare materials for return to the circulating collection; register new patrons; collect overdue fines; assist in order and receiving books, records, periodicals, and other library materials; maintain statistics of library use; handle patron complaints; assist adults and children in locating materials in the library and placing requests for materials not available. This recruitment is for one 15-hour Per Diem Library Assistant I position that supports Circulation Services at each of the three San Mateo Public Library locations. The City of Thousand Oaks is seeking enthusiastic and service-oriented individuals to join our team!  As an Administrative Aide (Part-time, Hourly City Worker), you will interact with a broad range of customers and play an important role in delivering extraordinary customer service to City residents and customers.  The Administrative Aide will serve as a primary contact for City departments and maintain positive and professional customer relationships by responding promptly to inquiries and finding solutions.  

The Administrative Aide (Hourly City Worker) is a part-time, hourly, at-will position that involves working approximately 15-25 hours per week, not to exceed 29 hours in a week, or 1000 hours per fiscal year (July 1st to June 30th).  

Exact working hours will vary depending on the department or work location and will be between Monday - Friday. We currently have one opening at our City Hall/Civic Arts Plaza building with our Cultural & Community Services Department.

Primary duties may include but are not limited to:

• Provide clerical and administrative support for assigned department

• Participates in collecting fees for services; provides patron assistance with payments; properly stores or transfers cash monies; processes refund requests.
• Serves as liaison with community groups to assess needs and proposes program ideas; engages patrons to solicit feedback on existing programs and identifies gaps in service; implements changes and adjustments to programs to enhance participants’ experience.
• Generates a variety of records and reports related to all aspects of programming; maintains participation logs as well as staff scheduling for respective programs and events; assists with the development of master schedule to be viewed by the public; and tracks revenue and expendi­tures.
• Assists in conducting training programs for staff in specialized recreation area including monthly in-service meetings; maintains training documentation; assists in recruiting volunteers and contract personnel; properly retains and files documents.
• Performs regular safety inspections of assigned units; initiates maintenance work orders; maintains appropriate emergency supplies and first aid inventory for facility.
• Initiates purchase orders for supplies and equipment; manages order delivery; maintains budget and documents expenses.
• May be assigned to camp programs.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

• May be required to drive a District or personal vehicle.
• May attend and participate in councils or associations related to specialty.
• Participates during disasters or when emergency response is needed.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfac­torily. Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skill and/or ability listed below is qualifying.

Education/Experience: A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: graduation from high school or GED and at least 2,000 hours of relevant work or volunteer experience, at least 30 units completed in recreation or a related field. An associate degree is preferred. Must be at least 18 years old.

Language Ability: Ability to communicate effectively in English in both written and oral form. Ability to write routine correspondence using correct spelling and grammar.

Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers, fractions and decimals.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to use common sense and exercise good judgement in solving problems. Ability to establish effective relationships with fellow employees, volunteers and participants and parents/guardians.

Certificates and Licenses:

• First Aid & CPR/AED within 90 days of employment with ability to maintain certifications thereafter as a condition of employment
• Valid California driver’s license with a good driving record and current automobile insurance. For ^Therapeutics unit: ability to obtain a commercial driver license within one year of employment (for a 15-passenger van).

Examination:
Candidate selection will be based on competitive examinations. Test content will be related to the job. A driver license will be requested for identification and admission to the testing area. If there is more than one part to an examination, candidates must pass each part. Candidates with passing scores will be asked to compete in successive parts of the examination.

• Written Test/Practical Exercise:  A written test and a practical exercise may be used, in addition to the appraisal interview. 
• Appraisal Interview:  A job related appraisal interview will be conducted to evaluate and compare participating candidates’ knowledge, skills, and abilities in relation to those factors which job analysis has determined to be essential for successful performance of the job.
• After the Appraisal Interview, the top candidates will be invited to a staff interview.

About the Position

This temporary position will work directly with the Recreation Supervisor-Special Events, assisting with the coordination, management, and implementation of special events operated by the City of San Carlos. This position will work evenings and weekends as needed from May – September 2026.

Essential Duties

• Assist with logistical elements of each event during the event-planning process, be onsite as needed during events for set-up, tear-down, problem-solving, and post-event tasks
• Perform administrative tasks including purchase inquiries and scheduling
• Staff and maintain the City Information Booth as required at each event
