Minimum Qualifications for consideration: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education/Training: Equivalent to graduation from an accredited U.S. high school; passing score on the General Education Development (GED) test; or possession of a two-year, four-year, or advanced degree from an accredited college or university. College course work in police science, criminal justice, or a related field is desirable.

Experience: Completion of a P.O.S.T.-certified training academy.

License or Certificate: Possession of a valid California Class C driver license with an acceptable driving record. Possession of a California Basic P.O.S.T. certificate within one year of employment.

Requirements:

• Candidates must have completed a California P.O.S.T. Certified Police Academy
• Must be 21 years of age as of the appointment date
• High school graduate or G.E.D., (as recognized by the U.S. Department of Education)
• U.S. citizen or a permanent resident alien who is eligible and has applied for citizenship

Out-of-State Candidates:

The California Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) will conduct an evaluation of all out-of-state training. POST is the sole authority on applicable training and determines whether the candidate must attend an abbreviated academy, or a regular police academy. If an academy is required, the candidate will be hired as a Police Officer Trainee. Upon completion of the academy, promotion will be made to Police Officer.

Selection Process:

All qualified applicants will be invited to appear before an Oral Appraisal Board. Applicants passing the Oral Board examination will be placed on the eligibility list based on their Oral Appraisal Board rankings. Prospective employees will be required to pass a physical agility examination and undergo a thorough background investigation including a medical, psychological, polygraph and drug/alcohol screening.

Phase I Includes:

• 99 Yard Obstacle Course (time limit 25 seconds)
• Body Drag (165 pounds) (time limit 14 seconds)
• Chain Link Fence (time limit 10 seconds)
• Solid Fence (time limit 13.5 seconds)
• One Mile Run (time limit 10 minutes)

Phase II: For candidates progressing to the Chief’s Oral Interview process

• 1.5 Mile Run (time limit 15 minutes)
• 15 Military Style Push-ups without stopping

The Police Officer Trainee position is the entry-level role for those who have not yet attended the Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certified academy.

The academy lasts six months and is the first step in your law enforcement career. Upon successful completion, officers perform a variety of law enforcement duties to protect life and property in accordance with applicable laws.

Starting salary for trainees is $30.68 per hour while attending the academy, plus excellent benefits.

After successfully completing the Police Academy, trainees are promoted to Police Officer with a salary increase to $35.06 per hour. • Candidates who complete PHQ's in an appropriate and timely manner will be invited for an oral interview with Background Detectives and placed on an eligibility list based on interview ranking.
• Top Candidates will undergo a thorough background investigation including a medical, psychological, polygraph, and drug/alcohol screening.
• A Physical Agility testing will include:
  • One Mile Run (time limit 10 minutes).
  • Solid Fence (time limit 13.5 seconds).
  • Chain Link Fence (time limit 10 seconds).
  • Body Drag (165 pounds) (time limit 14 seconds).
  • 99 Yard Obstacle Course (time limit 25 seconds).

The City of Thousand Oaks is seeking a driven, detail-oriented Accounting/Customer Service Representative to join the Public Services Division within the Finance Department. This role will serve as a key liaison between the community and the City's revenue operations, managing a high volume of payments and customer inquiries, supporting diverse revenue programs, and adapting to evolving priorities. Primary Responsibilities

• Utility Billing & Collections: Prepare and adjust water and wastewater bills, resolve customer inquiries, and set up payment arrangements to maintain uninterrupted service. When accounts become delinquent, coordinate lien filings and work with customers and field crews to clear balances and restore service.
• Business Tax: Oversee the full life cycle of business license applications and renewals, from initial customer service to intake and fee collection, to compliance verification, and final issuance. Coordinate with Planning, Building, Code Enforcement, and Thousand Oaks Police Department to resolve discrepancies, update records, and provide guidance on licensing requirements.
• Payment Processing & Cashiering: Process payments for all revenue programs, both at the front counter and within a centralized unit, and reconcile daily cash receipts. Balance cash drawers, prepare bank deposits, and validate transactions against the general ledger.

• Interdepartmental Collaboration: Collaborate with field technicians, IT, Thousand Oaks Police Department, and other departments to resolve billing and payment issues, identify process improvements, and share best practices. Cross-train on multiple revenue streams to enhance team agility and service coverage.
• Administrative Support: Administer specialized billing programs, including parking citations for false alarm, from initiation through resolution, ensuring accuracy, analytics, and compliance.

We are seeking two outgoing and community-oriented individuals to join our Public Works department as temporary, part-time and/or substitute Crossing Guards. This rewarding and impactful position safely assists school children in crossing busy intersections by halting vehicles through the use of mechanical signals and/or hand-held stop signs; maintains order among children waiting to cross the street at street crossing points; permits street crossing only when safe to do so; reports the license numbers of vehicles violating school crosswalk-related traffic laws to Community Services management personnel or the Simi Valley Police Department; and, instills an awareness in school children of safety measures necessary for safe street crossing.
