The Redwood City Police Department is currently accepting applications for Per-Diem COMMUNICATIONS DISPATCHERS.  Using a sophisticated Computer Aided Dispatch terminal, the Communications Dispatcher receives emergency calls from within the public requesting police, fire, medical, or other emergency service; determine priority, and dispatch police, fire, ambulance, or other emergency units as necessary and in accordance with established procedures. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Maintaining contact with all units on assignment and maintaining status and location of police field units and fire units; Monitoring emergency alarm boxes; Coordinating emergency calls and relay information and assistance requests involving other agencies; Entering, updating and retrieving information from networks relating to wanted persons, stolen property, vehicle registration, stolen vehicles and other information. About the Opportunity

The City of Millbrae is looking for a full-time Deputy Finance Director based in Millbrae, California.

Reporting to the Finance Director, you will play a pivotal role in managing the day-to-day operations of the Finance Department and supporting citywide financial initiatives.

More About You

 

Education: Graduation from a four-year college or university with major coursework in accounting, finance, business administration, public administration, or a closely related field.

Experience: At least 5 years of progressively responsible professional experience in accounting, finance, or a related field, including 3+ years in a supervisory or management capacity.

Licenses: Possession of a valid California Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record. A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license and a Certified Public Finance Officer (CPFO) certificate are highly desirable.

THE POSITION

The ideal candidate will have willingness to learn about construction management and inspection procedures and the ability to perform accurate mathematical calculations and drafting work. They should be capable of collecting and recording engineering field data with a high level of detail and maintaining thorough documentation. Proficiency in modern office software tools, including PowerPoint, to create professional presentations is essential. The candidate must be able to prepare clear and concise written correspondence, including responses to public inquiries, and demonstrate the ability to understand and follow both oral and written instructions. Excellent customer service skills and the ability to work collaboratively with contractors and the public are important. San Mateo Medical Center (SMMC) is seeking an experienced Patient Services Specialist (PSS) - Extra-Help.
 
The successful hire will support the clinical team with all registration, eligibility, enrollment, authorization, other administrative tasks, and Admission, Discharge, and Transfer (ADT) activities for SMMC. The PSS serves as the ambassador for SMMC to validate information and educate our patients and guests with the financial process upon arrival to the facility. The PSS verifies all demographic information, validates eligibility, obtain authorizations, collects co-payments, assist with all payor notifications and communication, and enroll patients if needed. The hire will be expected to work holidays and rotating weekends, if needed, to support department needs.
 
The ideal candidate for this position will possess excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain complex medical terminology and medical insurance requirements to individuals with varying levels of medical knowledge. Additionally, they should have strong skills in conflict resolution and problem-solving.

The ideal candidate will also be able to collaborate effectively with the clinical team, work with challenging patients, and assist those who may have language or communication barriers. THE ORGANIZATION

The City of Pacifica is a General Law City incorporated in 1957 and operates under the Council/Manager form of government. Legislative authority is vested in a five-member City Council elected by district for four-year overlapping terms. The Mayor is selected each year by a majority vote of the other Council members. The Council appoints the City Manager, City Attorney, and members of advisory commissions and committees.

The City delivers municipal services through seven departments: the City Manager’s office (including the City Clerk, Economic Development, and contract City Attorney); Administrative Services (Finance, Human Resources and IT Divisions); Parks, Beaches, and Recreation; Planning; Public Works (Field Services & Engineering and Wastewater); Police; and Fire (via North County Fire Authority). Employees are represented by eight bargaining units.

Each year the City Council convenes in advance of the new fiscal year to review and amend as necessary City Council goals, and to develop a list of priorities to be implemented in the upcoming fiscal year to fulfill the goals. In Spring 2023, over the course of three public meetings, the Pacifica City Council undertook a comprehensive strategic planning process instead of its annual goal-setting process. THE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT
The Public Works Department is organized into two Divisions: Field Services/Engineering and Wastewater.  The City has two Deputy Director positions, one that is responsible for Field Services/Engineering and the other that is responsible for Wastewater.  This position would be responsible for the Field Services/Engineering Division of Public Works, with a key emphasis on delivery of the Capital Improvement Program (CIP).  The Field Services section maintains parks, buildings, playing field and medians and keeps streets and trails clean and well-maintained.  Additionally, Field Services coordinates the tree program, cleans beaches and maintains the city’s storm drain system. The Engineering section implements the city’s CIP related to streets, roads, storm drains, facilities and coastal projects.  Additionally, the Engineering section pursues grants, manages consultants, reviews development projects and oversees the construction of the CIP and development within the City’s right of way. 

The Principal Civil Engineer will work under general direction, to direct, manage, supervise the Engineering Division; to perform highly complex professional engineering work; to plan, director, and supervise a variety of engineering projects and programs; and to conceptualize, develop, design, and implement all phases of difficult design and engineering research projects, to supervise and review the work professional and technical staff engaged in the preparation and/or review of plans, specifications, maps, designs, estimates, and inspections of capital improvement, construction, development and maintenance projects; coordinate the work of Engineering Division with the rest of Public Works.  

 

The Public Works Department is supported by 56 Full-Time staff and an operating budget of $21 million, along with FY2023-24 CIP appropriation of $26 million. The Engineering Division has an annual operating budget of $5 million, along with a FY2023-24 CIP appropriation of $18.5 million and is supported by 28 full-time staff. The Principal Civil Engineer reports to the Deputy Director of Public Works.

• Develop, plan, and implement goals and objectives of the Public Works Engineering Capital Improvement Projects; recommend and administer policies and procedures.
• Supervise, coordinate, and review all Public Works engineering activities including engineering design, construction inspection and surveying, as well as contract administration.
• Develop a cohesive team working atmosphere between city staff and contract staff. Establish design guideline parameters to meet regulatory requirements and the goals of the program for the benefit of the customers served.

• Attend and participate in meetings and conferences, make project presentations to the City Council and other City commissions and committees, City administrators, public officials, professional organizations, contractors, County, Regional and State regulatory agencies regarding matters relating to areas of assigned responsibilities.

The Environmental Health Services Division of San Mateo County Health is seeking a well-qualified candidate for the position of Environmental Health Program Supervisor – Hazardous Materials Program.

 

The Position

Working under general supervision, the successful candidate will supervise, direct, organize, manage, evaluate, audit, and provide accountability for one or more Environmental Health programs in areas encompassing hazardous materials/hazardous waste and environmental health program outreach for pollution prevention, public health protection, and environmental health operations.

 

The current vacancy supervises staff in the Environmental Health Services Division's hazardous materials/hazardous waste areas and Pollution Prevention programs. This position is located in San Mateo, but will require some travel/driving throughout the county to perform the duties of the job.

The Hazardous Materials Program Supervisor will work in the Certified Unified Program Agencies (CUPA) program and additionally oversee the Pollution Prevention Program. In addition to supervising Pollution Prevention Program work, this position will supervise CUPA regulatory programs, including the Hazardous Materials Business Plan Program, Hazardous Waste Generator (HWG) Program, California Accidental Release Prevention Program, Hazardous Materials Program Fees, Underground Storage Tanks (UST) Program, and Above Ground Petroleum Storage Tank Program.

 

Key responsibilities include providing subject matter expertise on the Hazardous Waste Generator program and supervising a team of nine specialists across multiple programs. Additionally, the supervisor will also serve in a leadership capacity with the District Attorney's office, political leaders, and county management, and will ensure compliance with all inspection and reporting requirements. Additionally, the incumbent will provide programmatic supervision around website management, messaging, and outreach services for grant work and to other programs within the Division, and ensure messaging and branding alignment with County Health.

 

Ideal Candidate

• Proficient in all CUPA regulatory program areas and possess a valid ICC (International Code Council) certification as an underground tank inspector.
• Knowledgeable of the division's enforcement options, such as the Hazardous Materials Administrative Enforcement Orders (AEO) and the District Attorney referral processes.
• Experienced with at least four years of journey level experience in hazardous materials management in the areas of storage, transportation, handling and disposal of hazardous materials and/or hazardous waste; underground tank construction, monitoring and removal; or underground tank site remediation.
• Knowledgeable of hazardous materials management, including its scientific background, technology, principles, methods, investigative techniques and problems; laws, regulations and codes governing hazardous materials; emergency response procedures and protocols; government agencies, community organizations and business establishments as they relate to environmental health and hazardous materials management; basic practices in the transportation and disposal of hazardous wastes.
• Knowledgeable of contract and grant monitoring and expenditures, grant applications, RFP processes.
• Approachable and politically astute with a supervisory style that quickly fosters trust, loyalty, respect and commitment from employees.
• An experienced hazardous materials management professional with a thorough understanding of the full range of issues, practices and regulations related to the CUPA programs.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

This position requires a valid International Code Council (ICC) certification as an underground tank inspector. If you do not have the ICC certification, you will be required to acquire it within six months of being hired. The California Code of Regulations (CCR) requires local agency inspectors conducting underground storage tank (UST) inspections to have a current inspector certificate from the International Code Council (ICC).
