Under direct supervision of the Recreation Specialist, Lifeguards are responsible for maintaining safety in and around swimming pools. Lifeguards will be expected to conduct rescue operations, administer Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid and Automated External Defibrillation (AED) in emergency situations, attend in service trainings, interact professionally and communicate effectively with swimmers of all ages and the general public, write reports, check in patrons, and organize pool equipment for all aquatic programs.

Schedule: Actual work schedule to be determined through mutual agreement with Recreation Specialist. Employees may be requested to work mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends.  

Qualifications:

• Minimum age at time of hire is 15 years old. (Work permit will be required under 18 years of age)
• American Red Cross Lifeguarding with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid preferred.
• Proof of a negative Tuberculosis (TB) test or the certification form is required prior to employment date

San Mateo County Health's Behavioral Health and Recovery Services Division is seeking a responsible, innovative leader and skilled clinician for the position of Supervising Mental Health Clinician - East Palo Alto Services. This Supervising Mental Health Clinician will supervise and coordinate the work of mental health professionals and interns in the East Palo Alto and East Menlo Park geographic area in San Mateo County. This position works closely with community members and community providers to develop and sustain programming that is culturally and community responsive.

This position will participate in program administration, planning and evaluation. The Supervising Mental Health Clinician supervises and guides the clinical team who provides services to seriously emotionally disturbed youth and their families, and seriously mentally ill adults. Services provided include: medication assessment and management; individual, group and family therapy; psychological assessment; case management; rehabilitation services; and crisis intervention.

The current vacancy is in the East Palo Alto Community Counseling Center, located in East Palo Alto but will travel throughout San Mateo County for client visits, trainings and meetings.

The East Palo Alto Community Counseling Center offers a unique setting to provide services to a diverse population in a community-oriented clinic.

This position supervises a multidisciplinary team that provides clinical outpatient services to adults and children and their families. The team may include psychiatrists, psychologists, psychiatric nurses and social workers and marriage and family therapists. The clinical teams also include master and doctoral level interns and psychiatric residents. In providing clinical services team members also relate to peer counselors and parent partners.

The ideal candidate will possess:

• Knowledge of system of care principles and general services.
• Knowledge of program management techniques and practices.
• Demonstrated expertise and skill in clinical work with adults with serious mental illnesses and youth with serious emotional disturbances; and clients with co-occurring disorders.

• Knowledge of evidence-based clinical practice modalities, e.g. Trauma Informed Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Solution Focused Brief Treatment.

• Strong supervisory/leadership skills which demonstrate an ability to direct and motivate a multi-disciplinary team.

About the Position:  The Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (Midpen) Seasonal Ranger Aide is an entry-level position, which provides the opportunity to learn and perform some duties of a ranger under the guidance of experienced ranger staff. Ranger Aides provide visitor information and assistance, travelling by non-emergency Midpen vehicles and on foot throughout an assigned geographical region. Ranger Aides perform a variety of customer service duties such as educating and informing the public about Midpen land use regulations, public relations and provide general information services, but do not have law enforcement authority.  Ranger Aides will assist with routine maintenance work on Midpen land and facilities and may respond to assist with emergency calls. Equivalent to graduation from high school. Six months experience working in a customer service related field.  Some experience or training in a parks settings is desirable.

Schedules:  This is a full-time position. Employees are expected to work full-time (40 hours during the work week); however, school schedules may be accommodated around regular days/hours of operations.  Weekend work (Sat/Sun) is required, with two consistent days off each week (Thursdays/Fridays off).  Incumbents will work an 8-hour workday (plus a 30-minute unpaid meal break). Daily start and end times will be the same for most workdays, typically scheduled within the range of 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.  Must be willing to work weekends, nights, holidays, or extended shifts and work with exposure to difficult circumstances, including exposure to challenging situations and upset individuals. Seasonal assignments will not exceed 950 hours or 7 months, whichever comes first, and do not include benefits.

Working Conditions: Most work is outdoors within Midpen’s open space lands with exposure to inclement weather conditions. This requires the ability to patrol on foot, off trail, and in rugged terrain.  Also requires the ability to perform related emergency services and maintenance and construction work on Midpen lands. Once trained, Ranger Aides may work alone for parts or all of their shifts. Must wear prescribed District uniform and adhere to strict safety procedures and work habits.

Physical Demands

Required Hours and Location

This position is seasonal with an assigned 10-hour shift on Fridays and optional 10-hour shifts on Saturday, Sunday, or Monday as needed.  This position will terminate at or before 900 hours and is intended to run concurrently with the Background Investigation and Hiring process for Ranger Trainee, for Seasonal Ranger Assistants who communicate an interest in doing so within the introductory period of the season. Must be available to work at various locations.

Public Contact

As public parklands, the majority of MRCA properties are open to the general public during operating hours. This position will have contact with members of the public in public areas such as parking lots and shared public/office restrooms, and during public meetings.

The Department:
The Parks Division provides planning, development, operation, maintenance, and rehabilitation of City parks and open spaces. The Recreation Division provides classes and programs for all ages and abilities. The Cemetery Division maintains 33,000 internment sites in a peaceful public park.  
 
The Position:
Providing customer service at Recreation Facility Front Desk (CRC, YAC, Senior Center, Reed & Grant Sports Park, Warburton and ISC Pools). The job responsibilities include data input, processing program registrations, opening and closing the desk reception area and keeping accurate records of daily sales. Daily check in of patrons, adhering to established protocols and ensuring the safety of customers as they enter and exit the facilities. Work assignment shifts will include, days, evenings and weekends.

 As an as-needed employee, this is an "at-will" position and there is no guarantee of hours.  Hours are limited to 999 in a fiscal year or 960 hours in a fiscal year for retired CalPERS annuitants

The Recreation Office Assistant has an emphasis on performing a variety of clerical and customer service duties at a recreation facility.  An incumbent in this classification is responsible for demonstrating a high level of customer service while performing basic clerical duties including financial transactions, maintaining documents, and assisting others.  Assignments are generally limited in scope, contain fairly routine duties, and are performed within a procedural framework established by higher-level employees.

$17.50 to $19.29 per hour

Summary Description

Under the direction of the Pool Manager, organizes and instructs swim classes, maintains records and documentation involved with instruction classes, monitors swimmers in the pool area, enforcing pool rules and regulations, preventing accidents and rescuing swimmers in distress during public swim sessions. This is an at-will, intermittent, part-time, hourly position without City-paid benefits.  Some evening and weekend work may be required.

Representative Duties

1. Conduct all levels of swim instruction and water safety lessons for participants from ages six months to adult.
2. Assist in curriculum instruction planning and pre-registration program to assess participants’ ability levels.
3. Patrol and monitor aquatics facility, watch for accidents and hazards in the pool areas; enforce rules.
4. Responsible for following accepted lifesaving practices and standards including the administering of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), O2 and First Aid as needed.
5. Assist with facility operations, aquatics competitions and special events throughout the year, including setup and cleanup.
6. Assist with desk reception, telephone support and related customer service activities; accepts registrations, collect fees and process receipts on a City computer.
7. Responsible for meeting all program goals and objectives.
8. Complete accurate reports and documentation of accidents and incidents in pool and pool area.
9. Attend scheduled staff meetings.
10. Assist with routine pool cleaning and maintenance as needed.
11. Responsible for maintaining a safe and clean swimming pool environment.
12. Responsible for maintaining personal fitness sufficient to perform the required duties.
13. Perform other position-related duties designated by the Pool Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS

About this role

We are seeking responsible, reliable and enthusiastic individuals to join our team as a Field Attendant. Employees hired into this class will follow the City’s emphasis on excellent customer service, be detail-orientated, able to manage multiple tasks and programs and be a team player who can work with a variety of City staff and members of the public. You must be available to work Monday-Friday during the hours of 3pm-8pm and one Saturday or Sunday from 8am-5pm, year-round.  This is a part time, non-benefited position, up to 30 hours per week and limited to 960 hours in a fiscal year (July-June).

What You’ll Do

• Acts a liaison to build a positive working relationship with all youth user groups who use the athletic fields in San Mateo.
• Reviews all activities on San Mateo field’s including, youth user group games and practices, adult sports, private rentals and public drop in use.
• Interprets and enforces the field user policy and park policies to the public and sports user groups.
• Monitors park areas by foot to assist the general public and sports groups in the use of the park areas.
• Responds to inquiries and complaints and ensures safe use of the facilities.
• Documents all emergency and first-aid contacts.
• Reports possible safety hazards and/or unsanitary conditions to the Recreation Supervisor.
• Assist in keeping accurate records of forms, inventory and supplies
• Supports City or Department-sponsored events as required.

The Newark Recreation and Community Services Department is looking for Senior Lifeguards for our fantastic swim lesson and aquatic programs and the upcoming to work at the year-round Silliman Activity & Family Aquatic Center. We are looking for positive, patient, motivated, self-driven individuals that have a passion for working in aquatics and with children, who wish to make a difference in a child's life by teaching them lifelong water skills! Swimming experience is required. Additional program training will be provided once hired. DEFINITION: Under general supervision, plan, organize and provide leadership for children grades 1st – 5th . for an onsite afterschool program. Program hours are M, T, Th, F PM 2:30pm – 5:30pm and Wed. 1:30pm – 5:30pm Approximately 15 – 20 hours a week.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

• Demonstrate excellent customer service and communicate effectively with co-workers, parents, and children.
