The Position: Facility and Sports Field Attendants work behind the scenes making all Recreation and Community Services excel!  This job entails setting up for events and rentals, cleaning the facility and performing light maintenance duties.  We’re looking for highly motivated people with a customer service orientation who genuinely enjoy helping others and who are flexible problem-solvers.

The Position: Marina Attendants provide assistance and information to marina customers, in person and by telephone; perform marina related inspections and boat checks including seaworthiness boat checks and improvement verifications; perform boat measurement and appearance inspections; monitor dock conditions, check seawall and other dock infrastructure, and clear debris from Suisun City waters; perform impound and auction related activities; interpret, apply and explain policies, regulations, codes and procedures relating to slips, moorings and dock structures; assign space for visiting vessels, calculate and collect fees; maintain inventory and operate marina equipment. We’re looking for highly motivated people with a customer service orientation who genuinely enjoy helping others and who are flexible problem-solvers.

ABOUT THE POSITIONS

The City of Redwood City’s Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department is looking for Teen Program/Camp Leaders, Assistant Camp Directors, Camp Directors who are interested in working 25-40 hours per week during the summer, planning, organizing, and conducting basic recreation activities in a variety of settings selected by the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department.

Sausalito Parks and Recreation is Seeking Vibrant Skilled Recreation Leaders

This recruitment is for Spring, Summer, and Fall Events and Activities such as Bocce and Volleyball Referee, Chili Cook-off, Toast to Sausalito, and other fun classes, activities, and events.

Pay: $16.50 - $17.50/ Hr

The City of Sausalito is recruiting for part-time temporary help for the spring, summer, and fall seasonal recreation activities and City-wide events.  The first of these is the Bocce League referee.

Bocce Referee
As a Sausalito Parks and Recreation Bocce Referee, you are responsible for set-up, management, and cleanup of scheduled Bocce matches. You are the enforcer of rules, an impartial judge, and an advocate for fun and fair play. The ideal candidate will maintain a positive attitude and provide a friendly environment when communicating with teams and keeping score. This position reports directly to the Recreation Supervisor.   The ideal candidate must meet all minimum requirements as listed below and be confident and capable of dealing with conflict and intense games.  

Event Staff

As a Sausalito Parks and Recreation Event Staff member, you are responsible for actively participating in set-up, cleanup, and management of your assigned event.  You must arrive on time and remain until the event leader release you after the event.   Event staff may set up chairs, tables, stages, corridors, and barriers.  You may be asked to perform traffic control or direct drivers to parking.   The ideal candidate will have a can-do attitude, smile often, meet all of the minimum requirements below, remain calm under pressure and in the face of adversity, be cheerful, and love the diversity of people. 

The minimum requirements for the position are:

• Reliable transportation to and from games or events
• Ability and commitment to arrive on time and remain until duties are completed and you are released
• Confidence and capability to manage conflict with grace and calm
• Commitment to long hours, days, evenings, or on weekends depending on the assigned event schedule
• Must be 14 years of age or older and must obtain a WORK PERMIT if under 18
• Able to work independently
• Excellent people skills
• Strong ability to follow directions
• Ability to lift and carry 25lbs

ABOUT THE POSITION
The City of Gilroy is hiring two part-time Recreation Specialist positions, each with a distinct focus. One position will support Youth, Adaptive, and Senior programs, while the other will focus specifically on serving the East Gilroy neighborhood with various recreation programs. Both roles will involve leading programs for socio-economically disadvantaged youth, teens, and adults, managing part-time staff, program planning, administering grants, and collaborating with local organizations and public agencies.
 
Under general supervision of a Recreation Manager, Recreation Supervisor, or Recreation Coordinator, the Recreation Specialist will plan, organize, and direct the physical, recreational, and social activities of assigned recreation programs. Program areas include but are not limited to: Adaptive (special needs), Adult and/or Youth Sports such as organized leagues or classes, After School Program, Cultural Arts, Facility Attendant, Senior Center, Special Events, Summer Camps, Theater, and Youth Center/Youth Services. This is an entry-level, paraprofessional position supporting the Recreation Division.

GENERAL INFO

Under general supervision, the Lifeguard/Swim Instructor I/II performs routine public contact and safety work in serving as a pool lifeguard. They also provide essential support to recreation programs and services by performing custodial tasks, event setup and teardown, program support, and minor maintenance duties relating to aquatics. This temporary, parttime position requires working up to 20 hours per week. The role involves ensuring the health and safety of aquatic patrons, facilities are clean, safe, and operational while delivering excellent customer service. Performs other duties as assigned. 

UNIVERSAL POSITION DUTIES (Applicable to all roles; Illustrative Purposes Only)

• Monitor the swimming pool and enforce safety regulations.
• Assist with aquatics programs, special events, and facility upkeep.
• Test and maintain pool water chemistry.
• Set up and tear down for classes, programs, and events.
• Lift and move up to 50 pounds regularly, and occasionally up to 100 pounds.
• Work outdoors in sun, rain, or wind as needed.

POSITION-SPECIFIC DUTIES

LIFEGUARD (Illustrative Purposes Only)

• Maintain a "rescue-ready" posture and scan assigned zones for drowning emergencies.
• Work in a rotation with other lifeguards across indoor and outdoor stations.
• Assist with facility operations, special events, and customer service.
• Attend weekly and monthly safety trainings.
• Perform light cleaning and maintenance tasks to ensure facility safety.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Minimum Age: 15
• Education: High school diploma or GED not required.
• Certifications:
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification (or ability to obtain).
  • First Aid & CPR Certification.

SWIM INSTRUCTOR (Illustrative Purposes Only)

• Teach American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim lessons following provided lesson plans.
• Maintain open communication with parents and participants.
• Assist with emergency responses and pool safety as trained.
• Attend weekly and monthly safety trainings.
• Perform routine cleaning and maintenance to ensure facility upkeep.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Minimum Age: 15
• Education: High school diploma or GED not required.
• Skills: Swimming proficiency at American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim Level 4.
• Preferred Certification: Water Safety Instructor

SWIM INSTRUCTOR II – LESSON MANAGER (Illustrative Purposes Only)

• Oversee swim instructors and ensure consistent lesson delivery.
• Arrive 30 minutes prior to and stay 30 minutes after swim lessons for setup and breakdown.
• Assist with instructor training and safety drills.
• Maintain and review lesson records to ensure program quality.
• Perform facility upkeep and provide customer service.

Minimum Qualifications:

• All requirements from Swim Instructor, PLUS:
• Experience: At least 6 months of experience as a Swim Instructor.

LIFEGUARD II - POOL MANAGER (Illustrative Purposes Only)

• Supervise lifeguards and enforce safety procedures.
• Conduct lifeguard rotations and monitor staff performance.
• Ensure staff maintain a “rescue-ready” posture and remain alert while on duty.
• Assist in planning and leading weekly and monthly safety trainings.
• Monitor pool chemicals and water quality.
• Open, close, and secure facility as needed.
• Provide customer service, event support, and light facility maintenance.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Minimum Age: 18
• Experience: At least 6 months of experience as a lifeguard.
• Preferred Certification: American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Certification.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Outdoor environment with exposure to sun, wind, and pool chemicals.
• Variable hours, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Ability to work in loud or quiet environments depending on location.

TOOLS & EQUIPMENT USED

• Pool maintenance equipment, hand tools, and cleaning supplies.
• Radios and phones for communication.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Frequent swimming, walking, sitting, and lifting.
• Regularly lift/move 25 lbs, occasionally over 100 lbs.
• Prolonged standing, climbing, and reaching.
