About the Position

The Recreation Leader I classification is the entry-level position in the Recreation Leader Series. The Recreation Leader II classification is the second-level position in the Recreation Leader Series. Positions in this part-time classification perform routine, basic work under direct supervision, in the planning and conducting of a wide variety of recreation activities. Receives supervision from a Recreation Department staff member; may work under functional supervision of a Recreation Leader II or Program Coordinator as assigned.

Work schedule: Monday-Friday shifts ranging from 3:00pm – 6:00pm, Wednesday 1:00pm – 6:00pm, Saturday-Sunday 8:00am – 1:00pm. Schedule may change as needed.

Essential Duties

As a Recreation Leader for San Carlos Parks and Recreation you will:

• Be a part of a motivated, enthusiastic, and responsible team focused on making a difference in the community.
• Learn valuable leadership skills with monthly professional development and training opportunities.
• Assist in Community Events including, Hometown Days, Music in the Park, Art and Wine Faire, and Movie Nights.

As a Recreation Leader working in the After School Program and Facility Rentals, you will help implement and preform some of the follow activities:

After School Program

• Daily enrichment and recreational activities.
• Directing program participants and managing behavior as appropriate.
• Ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for youth participants
• Supervision and facilitation of Youth Center special events and participants.
• Site maintenance duties and inspection of recreational equipment.

Facility Rentals

• Provides customer service and works directly with the public.
• Performs rental specific set-ups and breakdowns of recreational equipment.
• Uses and maintains recreation equipment.
• Directs program participants as appropriate.
• Performs site maintenance duties.

Hourly Salary Range

Recreation Leader I: $18.77 - $19.70

Recreation Leader II: $20.70 - $25.16

The City of Brisbane is currently accepting applications for Recreation Leaders. Sausalito Parks and Recreation is Seeking Vibrant Skilled Recreation Leaders

This recruitment is for Fall Events and Activities such as Bocce and Volleyball Referee, Chili Cook-off, A Toast to Sausalito, and other fun classes, activities, and events. The ideal candidate will be available Monday through Thursday for at least one evening shift per week August 18th through October 30th.

Pay: $16.50 - $17.50/ Hr

The City of Sausalito is recruiting for part-time temporary help for the fall season of recreation activities and City-wide events.  The first of these is the Bocce League referee.  

Bocce Referee
As a Sausalito Parks and Recreation Bocce Referee, you are responsible for set-up, management, and cleanup of scheduled Bocce matches. You are the enforcer of rules, an impartial judge, and an advocate for fun and fair play, all while maintaining a positive attitude and providing a friendly environment when communicating with teams and keeping score. This position reports directly to the Recreation Supervisor.  The ideal candidate must meet all minimum requirements as listed below and be confident and capable of dealing with conflict and intense games.  

Event Staff

As a Sausalito Parks and Recreation Event Staff member, you are responsible for actively participating in set-up, cleanup, and management of your assigned event.  You must arrive on time and remain until the event leader releases you after the event.   Event staff may set up chairs, tables, stages, corridors, and barriers.  You may be asked to perform traffic control or direct drivers to parking.  The ideal candidate will have a can-do attitude, meet all of the minimum requirements below, remain calm under pressure and in the face of adversity, be cheerful, friendly, and love the diversity of people. 

The minimum requirements for the position are:

• Reliable transportation to and from games or events
• Ability and commitment to arrive on time and remain until duties are completed and you are released
• Confidence and capability to manage conflict with grace and calm
• Commitment to long hours, days, evenings, or on weekends depending on the assigned event schedule
• Must be 14 years of age or older and must obtain a WORK PERMIT if under 18
• Able to work independently
• Excellent people skills
• Strong ability to follow directions
• Ability to lift and carry 25lbs

PAL (Police Activities League) Program Attendants work in the formal Suisun City classification of Recreation Specialist I. Starting hourly rate will depend on qualifications. This position works on average 19 hours per week.

The Department: The Recreation, Parks and Marina Department is responsible for the operations and programs of the Suisun City Marina, the Senior Center and the Joseph A. Nelson Center, including preschool, after-school programs at various sites, recreation classes and sports leagues, community events and special event rentals.

The Position: PAL Program Attendants work with Suisun City’s PAL Program and with area teenagers ages 13-19 to implement educational and recreational activities: tutoring, sports, games, mini-excursions, competitions, contests, seminars, and special events, and provide general support to the program’s Recreation Supervisor. We’re looking for highly motivated people with a customer service orientation who genuinely enjoy helping others and who are flexible problem-solvers.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Recreation Leader II (After School Coordinator) position provides high-level program support and services through the Parks and Recreation Department, which provides concrete, positive experiences for youth and promotes qualities essential to raising successful young people.  

Town ASEP (After School Enrichment Program) is designed for the Town’s elementary school students, providing daily activities and childcare. This position requires minimal supervision and includes the responsibility of ensuring that students are safely escorted to their After School Programs once school ends. 

This position may also work additional seasonal events for the Parks and Recreation Department throughout the year. 

This position is budgeted at 15-20 hours/week. A general schedule will be set, but the candidate needs to remain flexible to meet the program's needs.  

Start Date / Training Dates: August 25, 2025 
Work Schedule: Monday through Thursday, 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM. 

Program Dates: September 2, 2025 – May 31, 2026.

 EXAMPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• This position will serve as the main point of contact for students and act as a liaison between the Los Perales Elementary Faculty and the Town’s After School Enrichment Program. 

• Organizing instructor payments

• Social media communications

• Parent communications 

• Creating marketing materials 

• Other duties may include, but not limited to: 

• Provide communication via email and text with Parents/Guardians 
• Provide and set standards for positive discipline and communicate effectively with parents/guardians. 
• Safely and appropriately supervise students. 
• Maintain adequate inventory of supplies and equipment within budgetary guidelines. 
• Provide Rosters and Paperwork to all program instructors.

• The position will have a home base at Los Perales Elementary, though the ability to stop by the Hacienda before/after shifts may be needed from time to time.

This job entails setting up for events and rentals, opening and closing facilities, general janitorial services, sports field preparation, working in concessions and selling food during sports games. Special Events Attendants work behind the scenes making all Recreation and Community Services excel! This job entails interacting with the public and vendors participating in recreation and community activities, facilitating arts, crafts, games, and sports; performing participant check-in, reception duties and cash handling duties; assisting with large equipment (stage and booth) set-up, take down and housekeeping; opening and closing facilities. As experience is gained, may provide administrative and onsite program support; assisting with training, leading, scheduling and directing staff; organizing and directing event activities; preparing written and verbal reports and correspondence which may include drafting advertisements and social media posts. One position with Sports and Reservation unit 

Part-time, flexible hours, Primarily Monday - Friday (may include evening and/or weekend hours)

Summary:
Under general supervision, plan, conduct, and participate in recreational program activities according to established programs, schedules, and standards, in accordance with District policies and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

• Develop, conduct, and participate in various athletic, craft, social, cultural, and instructional activities
• Prepare facilities for programming, special events, or rental group usage
• Greet visitors, direct participants to the appropriate location, and respond to general inquiries
• Ensure safety of environment and equipment for staff, volunteers, participants, and visitors
• May open or close and secure facilities in compliance with District policies and procedures
• Issue and collect recreation equipment and supplies used by instructors, participants, or visitors
• Supervise special events, field trips, and other group activities

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

• Coordinate and participate in promotional activities and community events
• Modify and adapt activities specific to specialized programs or populations, as appropriate
• May assist with transportation in specialized programs
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty* satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required:

Education and Experience:
Minimum age of 18 years old with a High School Diploma (or GED). At least 500 hours of experience in recreation with 15 units completed in recreation or a related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Certificates and Licenses:

• First Aid & CPR/AED within 90 days of employment with ability to maintain certifications thereafter as a condition of employment.
• Valid California driver’s license with a good driving record and current automobile insurance.
• Department of Justice fingerprint clearance.
• Proof of a negative TB skin test.

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to communicate effectively in English in both written and oral form. Ability to write routine correspondence using correct spelling and grammar. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply common sense and exercise good judgement in solving problems. Ability to establish effective relationships with fellow employees, volunteers, and participants and/or parents/guardians.

Fingerprint-Based Background Check:
All recreation employees are required to obtain fingerprint-based background clearance prior to their first day of employment.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
The employee may provide guidance or direction to other part-time employees and to volunteers.
