The Youth Development and Athletics Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the Youth Development and Athletics divisions. planning, organizing, directing and implementing recreation programs and community events, requiring extensive face-to-face interaction with the public.

As our next Recreation Supervisor for the Youth Development and Athletics divisions, you will have the opportunity to be responsible for the following objectives:

• Supervise the full-time Youth Development and Athletics Recreation Coordinators, part-time staff and volunteers. Reports to the Recreation Manager.
• Develop plans for the delivery of recreation programs and community events to the public in accordance with the objectives set by the Recreation Manager and the Parks and Recreation Director. 
• Analyzes the demand for programs, projects program costs, and determines the extent to which fees will be required to support delivery of the programs. Ensures plans integrate the program objectives set by the Parks and Recreation Director and maximize user satisfaction within budget constraints.  Establishes positive working relations with the community and deals with the public in a courteous and effective manner. 
• Solicits participant input to gauge participant reaction to program quality.  Uses evaluation results and past program experience to plan new programs. Effectively plans programs that are convenient to users and participants to promote high levels of attendance and facility use.
• Maintains a competent and motivated work force by exhibiting leadership skills and by maintaining continual supervisory contact with their subordinates and volunteers.  Objectively and constructively evaluates their performance, promptly apprising them of how well they are performing and/or in what specific areas they should seek improvement.
• Provides timely and detailed input to the Recreation Manager and Parks and Recreation Director for the preparation of the budget, adequately documenting the amount and levels of service to be provided.  Keeps expenditures within the limits set.
• Ensures that the revenue for recreation, community and social service programs is handled according to established management policies.
• Effectively promotes and fosters public awareness of recreation programs by appearing before community groups, developing social media marketing, and preparing content to be included in various City newsletters/outreach materials throughout the year.
• Keeps current of changing needs within recreation and community and social service programs.  Remains flexible in ensuring necessary modifications are made.
• Participates in evening and weekend City-wide special events and programs.
• Inspects recreation facilities to ensure they are safe for use by recreation program participants and are presented in a satisfactory appearance.
• Exhibit effective leadership and instruction skills in recreation programs and community events for which they are responsible. Effectively communicate these skills and techniques to participants and staff members.

• Perform a wide variety of tasks such as writing program descriptions, proofreading/editing marketing content, taking photos or selecting imagery to be used in marketing campaigns.
• Assists in the preparation and oversight of the Youth Development and Athletics budgets, summarizing results at program and fiscal year end.

What type of experience and education do you need to be a successful Recreation Coordinator?

A typical qualifying background would be three (3) years of professional experience in the field of Parks and Recreation and a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, with major course work in recreation or a related field.

PAL (Police Activities League) Program Attendants work in the formal Suisun City classification of Recreation Specialist I. Starting hourly rate will depend on qualifications. This position works on average 19 hours per week.

The Department: The Recreation, Parks and Marina Department is responsible for the operations and programs of the Suisun City Marina, the Senior Center and the Joseph A. Nelson Center, including preschool, after-school programs at various sites, recreation classes and sports leagues, community events and special event rentals.

The Position: PAL Program Attendants work with Suisun City’s PAL Program and with area teenagers ages 13-19 to implement educational and recreational activities: tutoring, sports, games, mini-excursions, competitions, contests, seminars, and special events, and provide general support to the program’s Recreation Supervisor. The Recreation Leader I-II oversees recreation activities in connection with a specific recreation services program or functional area in support of community, recreational, or park facilities, and performs related duties as assigned.

This is an open, competitive/ promotional recruitment, meaning that it is open to qualified permanent employees and any other applicants who meet the minimum qualifications. Two employment lists will be created for internal promotional and an open list of all other non-current EPA employees.  The department may hire at either the I or the II level, depending on the skills, certifications, and qualifications held by the pool of applicants.

Special Events Attendants work behind the scenes making all Recreation and Community Services excel! This job entails interacting with the public and vendors participating in recreation and community activities, facilitating arts, crafts, games, and sports; performing participant check-in, reception duties and cash handling duties; assisting with large equipment (stage and booth) set-up, take down and housekeeping; opening and closing facilities. As experience is gained, may provide administrative and onsite program support; assisting with training, leading, scheduling and directing staff; organizing and directing event activities; preparing written and verbal reports and correspondence which may include drafting advertisements and social media posts. Summary:
Under general supervision, plan, conduct, and participate in recreational program activities according to established programs, schedules, and standards, in accordance with District policies and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

• Develop, conduct, and participate in various athletic, craft, social, cultural, and instructional activities
• Prepare facilities for programming, special events, or rental group usage
• Greet visitors, direct participants to the appropriate location, and respond to general inquiries
• Ensure safety of environment and equipment for staff, volunteers, participants, and visitors
• May open or close and secure facilities in compliance with District policies and procedures
• Issue and collect recreation equipment and supplies used by instructors, participants, or visitors
• Supervise special events, field trips, and other group activities

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

• Coordinate and participate in promotional activities and community events
• Modify and adapt activities specific to specialized programs or populations, as appropriate
• May assist with transportation in specialized programs
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty* satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required:

Education and Experience:
Minimum age of 18 years old with a High School Diploma (or GED). At least 500 hours of experience in recreation with 15 units completed in recreation or a related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Certificates and Licenses:

• First Aid & CPR/AED within 90 days of employment with ability to maintain certifications thereafter as a condition of employment.
• Valid California driver’s license with a good driving record and current automobile insurance.
• Department of Justice fingerprint clearance.
• Proof of a negative TB skin test.

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to communicate effectively in English in both written and oral form. Ability to write routine correspondence using correct spelling and grammar. Old Meadows Community Center - Therapeutic Recreation Unit

Two Part-Time positions: up to 28 hours/week (may include evening/weekend hours)

Summary:
Under general supervision, coordinates, conducts and participates in the delivery of recreational program activities and executes day-to-day operations in assigned units according to established programs, schedules and standards; and performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Establishes schedules; responds to general inquiries; assists with program registration; initiates payment and refund procedures.

Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfac­torily. Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skill and/or ability listed below is qualifying.

Education/Experience: 
A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: graduation from high school or GED program, and at least 1,500 hours of relevant work experience, with at least 30 units completed in recreation or a related field preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Candidates must be at least 18 years old.

Language Ability:
Ability to communicate effectively in English in both written and oral form. Ability to write routine correspondence using correct spelling and grammar.

Math Ability:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers, fractions and decimals.

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to use common sense and exercise good judgement in solving problems. Ability to establish effective relationships with fellow employees, volunteers, participants and parents/guardians.

Certificates and Licenses:
