The Position

The City of Fremont's Human Services Department is seeking temporary employees to work evening shifts, from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. during winter months (approximately October 13, 2025, through April 30, 2026). This position plays a vital role in supporting the temporary Winter Relief emergency shelter program, which provides a safe and welcoming environment for individuals and families experiencing homelessness.

Winter Relief Monitors will work under the direction of a Senior Program Coordinator and be responsible for up to 20 hours of work per week.

Training will include topics including harm reduction, de-escalation, Critical Time Intervention (CTI), and local community-based resources.

Examples of Duties

• Foster a supportive and respectful environment through empathetic communication, addressing emotional challenges that may arise during participant transitions.
• Enforce program rules to maintain a safe environment by providing verbal warnings and educational support to promote understanding and voluntary compliance.
• Respond promptly to emergencies by assessing situations, contacting emergency services (e.g., 911), and communicating with property staff and public safety personnel.
• Operate a City of Fremont vehicle as required.
• Conduct daily room visits, distribute meals and supplies, and engage with participants to build rapport and understand individual needs.
• Collaborate in weekly team meetings for case consultation, providing input and developing strategies to support participants’ connections to community resources.
• Maintain accurate records, including daily sign-in sheets, incident reports, and documentation of on-site activities.
• Perform other duties as necessary.

Part-time, approximately 30 hours per week
$26 - $33.19/per hour + benefits

The department reviews all proposed land development projects in the City and executes the design and construction of public projects such as streets, parks, and public buildings.

The City of Colfax is currently accepting applications for Maintenance Worker I. This is an entry level position in the Public Works department requiring a minimum of 1 year of experience in a semi-skilled maintenance occupation. Typical duties include: landscape maintenance, electrical and plumbing repairs, minor construction and light carpentry projects, cleaning public restrooms, keeping public streets and parks clean and in good repair. The employee will check storm drains, culverts and ditches; operate tools and equipment to patch and repair pavement, construct and maintain gutters, sidewalks and other incidental improvements. The ability to operate power tools and work safely, wearing appropriate PPE. Occasional maintenance will be required for the wastewater treatment plant and collection systems. Under general supervision, a Crime & Intelligence Analyst performs a variety of manual and automated crime research and analysis for the enhancement and direction of law enforcement operations; maintains a data base of information regarding a variety of offenders; and performs other duties as assigned. The current vacancy will be assigned to the Real Time Awareness Center (RTAC) to monitor police radios, intelligence-sharing applications, various alert systems, and current news.

Water Resources Mechanics perform a wide range of tasks involving mechanical maintenance and repairs of pumps, plumbing systems, electric motors, compressors, piping, boilers, underground infrastructure, facilities and buildings, carpentry, HVAC systems, mechanical drives, gear boxes, blowers, collectors, belt filter presses, and chemical feed systems. The work is done at the Water Reclamation Plant, located at 101 West Jack London Boulevard in Livermore.

A Water Resources Mechanic I performs a range of tasks requiring journey level mechanical ability and aptitude. Work assignments are performed according to established rules and procedures. Independent judgment is required and is supported at regular intervals by supervisory review and direction. A Water Resources Mechanic II is distinguished from the WR Mechanic I by the possession of advanced journey level mechanical ability and aptitude and is responsible for solving more difficult technical problems.

The City of Newark is seeking an energetic and committed Associate Civil Engineer to perform professional civil engineering work related to the planning, review, design, construction, inspection, and coordination of a variety of public works projects with a particular emphasis on Land Development. 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

• Meet and confer with developers, contractors, engineers and the general public relative to city policies, regulations, and procedures.
• Attend Development Review Committee meetings on designated entitlement projects and present and coordinate Engineering issues with other City departments.
• Recommend and prepare conditions of approval for Planning entitlement projects.
• Review private and public development improvement plans and subdivision maps for compliance with state and local codes, regulations and standards, and compliance with the requirements of project approval.

• Coordinate projects with various agencies, such as Caltrans, Union Sanitary District (USD), Alameda County Water District (ACWD), and Alameda County Flood Control District (ACFCD)

• Perform work in accordance with local, State, and Federal standards and regulations

• Attend Alameda County Cleanwater Program committee meetings.

• Schedule and track progress of land development projects.

• Prepare staff reports, as well as presentations for City Council, and other legislative bodies; respond to the public and other inquiries orally and in writing.

• Develop Requests for Qualifications (RFQs) and participate with other department staff in the selection of consulting engineers.

• Serve as Project Engineer on Public Works capital improvement projects and transportation engineering tasks as needed.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:

• Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering or a related field. 
• Three (3) years of civil engineering experience, including one year of lead responsibility. 
• Registered as a licensed Professional Civil Engineer in the State of California.
• Possession of a valid driver license and a satisfactory driving record throughout employment.
