ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Redwood City’s Library Department – Downtown Library; Redwood Shores Branch Library and Schaberg Branch Library – is looking for energetic, enthusiastic individuals who enjoy working with customers of all ages in a challenging and fun environment, and who are interested in working 10-15 hours per week including day, evening and weekend hours.

Typical duties may include, but are not limited to the following:  Check in library materials; assist with sorting and shelving library materials; assist customers with use of computers, databases and web searches; troubleshoot computers and printers; perform minor cleaning; and other related duties as assigned.

Position Duties

The Division Manager position will supervise and oversee the ongoing operation of a cross-departmental team that is charged with implementing the City’s Broadband Permitting program, as well as the Library’s Digital Empowerment and Public Technology division. This position serves as the lead for the City’s Broadband and Telecommunications Partnerships and reports to the Deputy Director of Public Services. To implement the citywide Broadband strategy the Division Manager will work directly with the staff and supervisors of assigned staff from other departments to ensure that the citywide Digital Empowerment workplan and project timelines are properly prioritized, integrated, and strategically aligned whenever possible. In addition to overseeing the citywide Broadband and Telecommunications Partnerships Unit, the Division Manager will direct the work of Library’s Information Technology Team, Digital Equity and Empowerment Unit, and the Library Data & Analytics team. This work includes:

• Multi-departmental coordination and management of several specialized programs;

• Budget administration and reporting across complex local, state, federal, and special funding sources, with close coordination to the City’s Finance team;

• Preparing and presenting reports and information to the City Council, City Council Committees, Library and Education Commission, and external stakeholder groups;

• Providing direct oversight or coordination of vendor contracts that are effectuated across City departments;

• Oversight of Library central service units: Information Technology, Data & Analytics, and Digital Empowerment;

• Ensure timely service delivery and workplan alignment of all Library units;

• Oversight of project management and implementation of all units;

• Engagement and leadership within city and industry-specific working groups to ensure technology protocols and best practices are integrated into project roadmaps, with substantial focus on cybersecurity;

• Liaise with San Jose State University on the operation of jointly held technology services at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Library;

• Guidance and oversight of the Digital Empowerment theory of change and programmatic functions;

• Oversight of the Digital Inclusion Fund and the SJ Access Grant Program;

• Oversight of the communications strategy using website, social media, and media;

• Oversight of related community engagement and feedback sessions;

• Analysis and communications work to advance City advocacy efforts regarding state and federal broadband infrastructure funding, including all related competitive grants.

The position will also be responsible for ongoing development of new Citywide multi-departmental responses to the Digital Equity need, establishing the framework and recommendations and supporting City leadership in decision-making about program options, resources, and community engagement.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Mill Valley Library is recruiting an Archivist for the Lucretia Little History Room. This person will direct the History Room’s operations and services and supervise docents and staff to help acquire, preserve, and showcase local history. The archivist will oversee the Division’s budget and write grants to support additional projects. The selected candidate will continue implementation of current initiatives and help modernize and chart a future path for the History Room.   

The History Room Archivist will:

• Seek partnerships with local organizations to acquire or share important local history collections.
• Look for creative ways to showcase the collection by curating original content for different formats.
• Oversee and expand the Oral History Project.
• Monitor and improve preservation of materials.
• Assess copyright issues and fulfill photo requests.
• Collaborate with the Historical Society on a shared mission to promote local history.
• Write articles, create reports, and make presentations as needed.

ABOUT THE HISTORY ROOM

The Lucretia Little History Room is dedicated to illuminating the unique history of Mill Valley and making it accessible to people of all ages and interests.

The collection includes about 10,000 historical photos, local artifacts, maps, house files, over 250 oral histories, and research materials. History Room staff assists the public with research and collaborates with the Mill Valley Historical Society and other local organizations. Recent projects have included the launch of a local history podcast, virtual exhibitions, Building History in 3D, and Mapping Mill Valley History. These projects highlight material from the collection while engaging a new audience.

The salary ranges for the Analyst I/II classifications are:

Analyst I: $ $89,849.76 - $109,200.00

Analyst II: $ $98,039.76 - $119,159.04

All ranges include an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable pay. Actual salary shall be determined by the final candidate’s qualifications and experience.

The San Jose Public Library is currently seeking to fill one (1) Analyst I/II vacancy that will report to a Senior Analyst of the Finance and Business Services (FBS) Unit.

The positions’ duties and its responsibilities would include, but would not be limited to, the following:

• Management and oversight of the Library ‘s operating budget, including but not limited to, accurate tracking and monitoring of expenditures and revenues, maintaining precise financial records, performing calculations and forecasting, organizing and analyzing data, and making actionable insights and recommendations.
• Prepares various reports and memos; assembles and analyzes data; summarizes findings; proposes or suggests appropriate actions including reallocation of resources; works cross-departmentally to facilitate fiscal and budget requests.
• Providing support and expertise in the development and administration of all fiscal and accounting related activities, including payroll, accounts billable/payable, procurement and contract/grants. Review and approve financial transactions, purchase orders, and awarded contracts to ensure accuracy and compliance with policies and funding guidelines.

• Evaluates and prepares recommendations on fiscal management; prepares and revises policy and procedures; develops instructional materials; designs and maintains monitoring system for fiscal processes; provides training to project managers and unit leads and assists in the implementation of improved systems or organization.

Position Duties

San José Public Library(SJPL) is recruiting a Senior Librarian to join the Library's Public Engagement Division as the Web Services Manager. This position will help shape, maintain, and enhance the Library’s digital presence and web-based platforms, including: 

1. Public Website (www.sjpl.org)

2. Library catalog and events calendar

3. Joint website with San José State University King Library (www.sjlibrary.org)

4. Sierra - Integrated Library System (ILS) 

5. SharePoint

The Web Services Manager will serve as the primary point of contact for all web-related matters and is responsible for the development, maintenance, and performance of the Library’s web infrastructure. Responsibilities also include troubleshooting web issues, ensuring accessibility, and security compliance.

This position will supervise a team of two full-time and one part-time staff members, and will work collaboratively with internal stakeholders, Library leadership, external partners, and vendors to ensure seamless integration and functionality across platforms.

In addition, the Web Services Manager will also actively participate in the City’s Digital Privacy and Artificial Intelligence Working Groups, and up hold Library privacy and ethics standards. 

Key Responsibilities: 

• Serve as project manager and technical subject matter expert for all web-related initiatives

• Lead the team in developing and maintaining engaging, accessible, and user-friendly digital content

• Collaborate with the Library’s Marketing and Communications Unit to align web content with SJPL’s branding, public awareness campaigns, and strategic initiatives

• Oversee compliance with ADA standards, digital and data privacy, readability, and language access

• Conduct regular audits of website content, performance, and security, as well accessibility and usability testing

• Perform scheduled website maintenance and updates 

• Analyze and report on web analytics to inform improvements and enhance user engagement utilizing Google Analytics and Looker Studio

• Stay up to date with emerging digital and technology trends relevant to libraries and public sector

Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Develop and manage websites, web applications, and custom code 

• Apply knowledge of SEO tools and strategies

• Evaluate, pilot, and implement new web tools and solutions

• Web content management systems and optimization

• Review vendor privacy policies and guide staff on privacy best practices

• Understanding of AI ethics and implementation

• Vendor management

• Apply user experience (UX) principles to improve usability and design

Position Duties

The San José Public Library System is looking to fill vacancies throughout our various locations for this entry-level classification.

Library Aides selected for specific locations are scheduled to work approximately 12 hours per week, on a year-round regular basis. The days and hours assigned will vary depending on which location you are assigned to and the scheduling needs of that branch/unit. Most Library Aides will be required to work some evenings and weekends.

The main responsibility of a Library Aide is to file materials on the shelves quickly and accurately and to keep shelves in order so that customers can locate items easily. Library Aides also assist with unpacking, sorting and delivery of library materials; clearing tables and other areas of material and straightening seating areas; setting up displays; opening and closing the facility; emptying book return drop boxes; and other similar duties as assigned.

These positions require lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling materials and objects up to 25 pounds, or heavier weights, in all cases with the use of proper equipment; packing, unpacking and transporting shipment boxes; reaching, bending, and stooping to put materials on low and high shelves; actively moving for up to four hours at a time, retrieving items from deep bins, and standing for periods of time.

Please Note – Candidates interested this position must be available to work on Saturday and Sunday rotations.

The Department:

The Santa Clara City Library is a department of the City of Santa Clara. The Santa Clara City Library operates three facilities, a virtual branch through a website, and a bookmobile. The Library provides a collection of virtual and physical books and resources, services and programs, public internet access, adult literacy and English as Second Language classes for the Santa Clara community. Services and programs are free and open to all.

The Position:

The Santa Clara City Library is seeking an enthusiastic and community-oriented Librarian with a strong public service commitment at the Mission Branch Library. This Librarian will provide library service, information, and programming for all ages, and may be responsible of the branch in-lieu of more senior staff. Constant contact and collaboration with patrons of all ages, including those with diverse backgrounds and abilities, are part of the daily duties of this position.  

This is a limited-term appointment of 30-40 hours/week for up to 6 months. As an as-needed employee, this is an "at-will" position and there is no guarantee of hours. Hours are limited to 999 in a fiscal year or 960 hours in a fiscal year for retired CalPERS annuitants.

THE POSITION

The main job of a Library Page is putting books, DVDs, CDs, and magazines back on the shelves and preparing the library for opening and closing. The ability to quickly and accurately sort things alphabetically and numerically is required. This is an ideal job for someone who enjoys organizing and who can work quietly on their own.

DEFINITION

Under supervision, sorts, shelves, straightens, relocates, and searches for library materials, re-orders and organizes materials as needed, provides basic directional information to patrons, performs basic circulation duties using computer software, performs physical tasks to support library programs and procedures, performs closing procedures, and does related work as required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Sorts and shelves materials, assists at public service desks; inspects materials for wear and damage and does basic mending of same; keeps books and periodical shelves in order; assists in taking inventory of books; performs basic custodial tasks as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 Knowledge of: Basic clerical functions, principles of alphabetical and numerical filing, basic record keeping procedures.

Ability to: Sort material quickly and accurately in alphabetic or numeric order; follow oral and written directions; interact positively and cooperate with co-workers, respond politely to library patrons, work as a team member, function under demanding time pressure, respond in a positive manner to supervision, and attend work and perform duties on a regular and consistent basis.

Must be physically able to stand for extended periods, walk, bend, kneel, push wheeled carts, lift, reach overhead, go up and down stairs, and use a step stool.

Availability for evening and Saturday shifts is required.

Age: Minimum age of sixteen.

10-15 hours/week

THE POSITION

Library Aides provide customer service to library visitors. Duties include checking items in and out at the Checkout Desk, opening new library accounts, collecting fines and fees, shelving materials, and assisting library visitors in finding materials and using the computers. Other tasks may include processing materials, providing storytimes for children, and assisting with other public programs for children, teens and adults. This is an ideal job for someone who is friendly, computer savvy, enjoys working with the public, putting things in order, and is detail-oriented. Bilingual skills are desirable.

DEFINITION

Under supervision, to do library clerical, technical and customer service work, and related assignments as required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Check materials in and out, sort materials, open new library accounts, explain library policies and resolve disputes, collect fines and fees, assist library patrons with self-checkout and public-use computers, printers, photocopiers, and scanners, answer routine information questions, complete opening and closing procedures, and perform related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:  Modern office and record-keeping procedures; use of office equipment and technology; numerical and alphabetical filing; basic mathematical principles.

Ability to: 

Provide excellent customer service; apply and explain library policies; communicate clearly, both orally and in writing; perform basic troubleshooting and assist patrons with computer use; adapt to changing technology and working conditions; learn the Dewey Decimal Classification System and library procedures; interact positively and cooperate with co-workers; function under demanding time pressure; respond in a positive manner to supervision; and attend work and perform duties on a regular and consistent basis. 

Bilingual ability (Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, or Tagalog) is highly desirable.

Must be physically able to stand for extended periods, walk, bend, kneel, push wheeled carts, lift, reach overhead, go up and down stairs, and use a step stool.

Availability for evening and Saturday shifts is required.

Education: Graduation from high school or equivalent
