The Redwood City Public Library is looking for a community-centered, values-driven person who will deliver active and engaged customer service, with a focus on supporting self-service and delivering a top-notch experience for each visitor of the library. The ideal candidate will work well with others to achieve goals in a fast-paced, innovative team environment. ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Redwood City invites you to apply for the position for the Community Development Department. This employment opportunity is excellent for a well-organized “people person” seeking variety and challenge.

This position has the responsibility for a variety of administrative support functions as needed. Typical duties include, but are not limited to: answering and directing telephone calls; interaction with the public, taking and responding to messages as directed, providing administrative support such as filing, data entry, and preparing correspondence, assist with the preparation of Boards and Committee materials, updating documents, scheduling meetings, maintaining calendars, assist with records management, processing mail, and assisting staff with projects as needed.

This position is a non-benefited casual position. This position will be utilized for vacation relief and work overflow on a part-time basis, the work schedule will vary (as needed) between 18-20 hours per week, not to exceed 1,000 hours in a fiscal year.

Must be willing to work at City Hall for a minimum of three business days from Tuesday - Thursday per week.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Redwood City, Public Works Department invites you to apply for the position of Building Maintenance Worker position.  The Building Maintenance Worker positions in this class are assigned a variety of tasks in the building trades. Although work requires the use of journey level tools and the ability to perform tasks in several of the crafts, the skill required in any one field is normally less than would be required of a journey level worker in that field. Technical supervision may be regularly exercised over one or more helpers.

Typical duties may include:

• Assist in a variety of carpentry and building maintenance tasks for municipal facilities. Keep accurate and timely records of building maintenance activities utilizing a computer work order system.
• Install, maintain, and repair plumbing systems and a variety of plumbing fixtures such as drinking fountains, faucets, sinks, toilets, water heaters, and aquatic facilities.
• Unstop drains and toilets.
• Use computerized/electronic equipment as required.
• Solicit bids and order parts and materials (purchasing) as needed
• Repair, install, and construct walls, cabinets, countertops, and other wood equipment and fixtures.
• Perform hand and bench work, operating table saw, miter saw, drill presses, skill saws, and other woodworking machinery.
• Maintain and repair structures such as barricades, fences, scaffolds and playground equipment and perform maintenance and repair on park and other City structures.
• Make repairs on doors, windows, floors, lockers, gates, roofs, and ceilings.
• Construct new walls, ceilings, and flooring.
• Prepare surfaces for painting, wallpapering, or staining and remove graffiti.
• Apply paint to building interiors and exteriors, fixtures and equipment. Prepare and paint or stain cabinets, doors, woodwork and other surfaces.
• Assist in general facility maintenance duties as required
• Repair, replace, and maintain electrical wiring, fuses, switches, motors, generators, lighting systems, and other fixtures and equipment
• Train and assist less experienced personnel.
• Perform basic preventive maintenance and repairs to heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment.
• Perform work with a record of regular attendance and punctuality.

THE POSITIONS

The following positions are flexibly staffed at the Librarian I/II or Lead Librarian level, depending on the candidate’s experience. Bilingual Spanish/English preferred.

• Youth Services - Librarian I, II, Lead: A dynamic, energetic, team-oriented full-time (38-hours per week) Librarian, to coordinate the library’s outreach and deliver innovative programs and services for children and families at the Downtown Library and throughout the community.
• Teen Services - Librarian I, II, Lead: A dynamic, energetic, team oriented full-time (38-hours per week) Librarian, to deliver innovative programs and services for teens with diverse backgrounds and abilities and to coordinate the library’s outreach to middle/high schools and throughout the community. 
• Adult Services - Librarian I, II, Lead: Seeking full-time Librarians (38-hours per week) with expertise in cataloging, collection development, programming for adults, outreach and exceptional customer service.

This position is flexibly staffed at the Librarian I/II level, depending on the candidate’s experience.

• Neighborhood Services  - Librarian I/II:  This position is flexibly staffed at the Librarian I/II level, depending on the candidate’s experience.  A dynamic, energetic, team oriented full-time (38-hours per week) Librarian I/II to deliver innovative services and programs for children, families and teens, at the family friendly Redwood  Shores Branch Library and Schaberg Branch Library. 

These positions will require work during the day, evenings and weekends. ABOUT THE POSITION

The Redwood City Fire Department is seeking individuals for the position of Cadet Firefighter. The Cadet Firefighter Program is designed to allow students an opportunity to gain firsthand knowledge of fire department operations. Fire Department Cadets spend a minimum of 48 hours and a maximum of 96 hours per month at the firehouse, participating in calls for service, station duties, and training. Cadets will also be expected to attend department-sponsored community functions outside of their 96-hour monthly commitment. Though the goal is to immerse the cadet into all aspects of fire department life, they are not allowed to participate in situations deemed Immediately Dangerous to Life and Health (IDLH).

This Fire Cadet position is a non-benefited volunteer position.

There are multiple positions full-time (38-hours per week) and part-time (20-hours per week). The current vacancies are at our family-friendly Redwood Shores Branch Library performing a wide variety of customer service and technical library work, providing services for children, adults, and families. The incumbent may also be assigned to work at other Redwood City Public Library locations. This position requires work during the day, evenings and weekend rotation (both Saturday and Sunday) and these are onsite/in-person positions. We may use the eligibility list created from this recruitment process to fill any part-time or full-time positions that occur in other Redwood City Public Library locations, during the life of the eligibility list.

Typical tasks include, but are not limited to:

• Primarily provide customer service in the following capacities (but not limited to):  
  • Provide customer service experience that strives for the highest level of satisfaction.
  • Assist the public with technology.
  • Answer routine in-person and telephone directional and informational questions; refer more difficult or technical questions to appropriate library staff.
  • Assist customers in locating library materials and information.

The Department:                                       

The Engineering and Transportation Department is supported by 27 FTEs, 9 contract employees, and a FY 2025-26 Capital Budget of approximately $72.9 million covering infrastructure and transportation projects. The Five-Year CIP (FY 2025-26 to FY 2029-30) totals $372 million, including citywide projects. Major projects include an impressive list of transportation projects, such as the SR84/US101 Freeway Interchange, grade separations along the Caltrain rail line, parking, transportation demand management and Vision Zero implementation, and various traffic calming and roadway projects. Other major projects entail the Transit Center, the Water Master Plan implementation, finalizing and implementing a Recycled Water Master Plan, and various Stormwater System improvements. Future priorities will involve developing an Adaptation Plan to address Sea Level Rise and the Redwood Shores and Bayshore protection projects.
