THE POSITION

Under administrative direction, the City Engineer plans, organizes, coordinates and directs all Engineering Division activities of the various functional units including capital project design and construction administration, development review, traffic engineering, signal and streetlight maintenance and storm water program administration; provides professional assistance to City staff in areas of responsibility; performs related work as required.

CLASS CHARACTERISITICS

The City Engineer is a single incumbent class at the middle management level. The City Engineer is responsible for the direction and management of activities and achievement of division goals established for the Engineering Division.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (illustrative only)

• Assists in the development of the division’s work plan and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, procedures and work standards.
• Assigns work to professional, technical and clerical staff; reviews work to assure overall quality
• Provides for the training, evaluation and professional development of staff; interprets administrative policies and procedures; is responsible for morale and productivity of assigned staff.
• Prepares and administers the division’s budget; monitors authorized expenditures.
• Performs professional engineering work directly; reviews plans, specifications, proposals, contracts, estimates and other materials submitted by design professionals; reviews and approves projects for construction.
• Assists in the development and administration of the City’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP); determines the scope and cost of engineering projects, monitors project expenditures and forecasts annual funding needs.
• Directs the preparation of a variety of analytical studies and reports related to current and future public infrastructure and facility needs; reviews findings and makes recommendations. 
• Oversees the preparation and management of the consultant agreements, construction and vendor contracts that support the City’s CIP.
• Performs final review and approval of street improvement and grading plans for private development projects. 
• Reviews parcel and final subdivision maps for completeness and conformance with tentative maps and conditions of approval.
• Conducts site visits and meets with property owners, engineers, contractors or attorneys to review and resolve development or capital project issues or disputes as needed.
• Reviews and resolves traffic engineering related issues.
• Administer the scope of work and review studies and analysis conducted by traffic consultants.  
• Oversees the contract for street lighting and traffic signal system maintenance and related facilities and appurtenances.
• Oversees the activities of the local utility companies that support the City’s CIP projects, regional transportation projects, development projects and utility improvements.
• Oversees the activities of the City’s Stormwater/Clean Water Program, including the preparation and submission of the annual report.
• Understanding of federal, state, county and local transportation funds and the requirements and policies for project implementation including planning, environmental, design, right of way, construction and project close-out and may serve as City’s technical advisory member for the Alameda County Transportation Commission monthly funding meetings.
• Performs all activities related to the preparation and administration of grant proposals; coordinates with grant program staff to satisfy grant requirements and achieve funding reimbursements.   
• Ensures that the City is in continuing compliance with applicable laws and regulations related to municipal engineering and public works matters; reviews and recommends revisions to applicable policies and ordinances. 
• Advises the Public Works Director, City Manager’s Office and others on the planning and implementation of capital projects, land development or other related activities. 
• Prepares and presents engineering recommendations to the City Council in conformance with applicable codes, rules, regulations, and other legal requirements; functions as the Public Works staff representative to the Planning Commission and other City committees as required. 
• Represents the City in meetings and coordinates division activities with those of other City departments, divisions and outside public and private agencies
• Responds to citizen inquiries, requests and complaints.
• Serves as the Public Works Director on a relief basis.

POLICE OFFICER - Academy Graduate - $8,134 to $11,030 per month (up to $12,684 with incentives)

Police Officers can serve in patrol, traffic, investigations, and K-9 assignments. EDUCATION:

Academy Graduates (no sworn experience) - High school diploma and a minimum of 45 units of college-level course work, in addition to graduation from a P.O.S.T. basic academy.

Academy Graduate candidates with an honorable discharge may be credited with up to 15 semester units for a minimum of 3 years of active duty in the U.S. Armed Services (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard).

The City of Marysville has an full-time opportunity in the City of Marysville Finance Department.

This is one of newer programs within the Marysville Fire Department.  The Marysville Fire Department is hiring continuously for three (3) Seasonal Firefighters.  

For this position, each hour worked will be paid at $16.50, that will be paid monthly in accordance with the City of Marysville's established pay schedule, with a maximum of 960 hours per appointment. 

DEFINITION:

Under general administrative direction of the City Manager, plans, directs, manages, and  oversees the activities and operations of the Public Works Department including streets, utilities, water treatment and wastewater treatment, ensures all resources within each division are  properly allocated and managed; provides long range planning for department programs, projects, and needs; coordinates assigned activities with other departments and outside  agencies; and provides highly responsible and complex administrative support to the City  Manager.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS:

The Director of Public Works is considered a Department Director with responsibility for directing the activities of a Department within the City. Positions at this level serve as a member of the City's senior management team and provide advice and counsel to the City Manager regarding strategic policy and problem-solving issues relating to the assigned Department and the City overall. The incumbent is responsible for accomplishing the City's goals and objectives related to assigned program areas.

• Assumes full management responsibility for all Public Works Department services and activities including streets, utilities, water treatment, and wastewater treatment.
• Manages the development and implementation of departmental goals, objectives, and priorities for each assigned service area; recommends and administers policies and procedures.

CLASS CHARACTERISITICS:

Office Specialist I – This is the entry-level class in the Office Specialist series.  Initially under close supervision, incumbents learn office and City procedures.  As experience is gained, there is greater independence of action within established guidelines.  The Office Specialist I class includes part-time and temporary positions with incumbents available to provide relief support to a variety of City departments.  This class is alternately staffed by the Office Specialist II class.  Full-time incumbents may advance to the higher level after gaining experience and demonstrating proficiency which meet the qualifications of the higher class.

Office Specialist II – This is the journey-level class in the Office Specialist series.  Requires the competency to independently perform a variety of office support duties.  All positions are characterized by the presence of fairly clear guidelines from which to make decisions and the availability of supervision in non-routine circumstances.  Specific duties, including the amount of typing, word processing, and use of on-line of personal computers will vary with the organizational unit to which you are assigned.  This class is distinguished from Office Specialist III, which is the working lead-level of the series, because that class performs more complex and/or specialized office clerical support functions.  Full-time incumbents may advance to the higher level after gaining experience and demonstrating proficiency which meet the qualifications of the higher class.

The City of Newark is seeking an experienced skateboarding instructor who can connect with participants of all ages, especially youth and teens. The Recreation Instructor will be responsible for the planning and implementation of skateboarding classes to be held at Mel Nunes Skatepark in Newark. Responsibilities include teaching fundamental techniques, promoting safety, and creating an encouraging environment where participants can build confidence and have fun while learning to skate.

REQUIREMENTS

THE POSITION:

Under the direction of the Jail Administrator, incumbents perform the most difficult and responsible types of duties including providing technical and functional supervision over jail personnel. Employees at this level are required to be fully trained in all procedures related to assigned area of responsibility. 

To plan, assign and review the work of assigned jail personnel; to perform duties related to the booking, searching and monitoring of prisoners; and to assist with other non sworn police activities as necessary. This is an advanced journey level class. Employees perform the most difficult and responsible types of duties including providing technical and functional supervision over jail personnel. Employees at this level are required to be fully trained in all procedures related to assigned area of responsibility.

The ideal candidate will be committed to providing excellent service and possess the ability to multi-task several duties while supervising staff and ensuring health and safety standards in a secure Type I jail facility. The candidate should have experience training and evaluating others, completing administrative reports, and understanding the principles of report writing. What you will do:

• Evaluates performance of assigned jail personnel; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement disciplinary procedures; and counsels employees.
• Approves days off and vacation requests from jail personnel and coordinates replacements for vacancies; schedules emergency and short-term assignments for the jail.
• Assists in the development and implementation of new policies, procedures, programs and goals/objectives for the jail facility.
• Assists in identifying training needs and the design of training programs; supervises and/or provides training to employees assigned to the jail adhering to the laws pertaining to a Type I jail facility.
• Train and develop assigned personnel; maintain awareness of new procedures related to prisoner incarceration.
• Book prisoners into the jail; prepare paperwork on prisoners; fingerprint and photograph prisoners.
• Maintain light security of the jail; separate prisoners as necessary.
• Verify warrants and criminal history of prisoners on law enforcement computer systems.
• Transport prisoners to court or other jail facilities.
• Respond to the public inquiries on the phone and in person and provide information as appropriate.
• Deliver prescribed medication to prisoners.
• Inventory and order jail supplies and food.
• May be assigned to act in the absence of the Jail Administrator.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.

License: Possession of a valid Class C California driver's license at time of appointment.

Must possess a Basic Corrections Officer Academy Certificate from a certified Standards and Training for Corrections (STC) academy.

Must possess or obtain, during the probationary, certificates for the "Correction Officer Supervisor Course" issued by the State of California Standards and Training for Correction Program or the Peace Officer Standards and Training Supervisory Course.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS 

Essential duties require the mental and/or physical ability to: work in a standard office and jail facility environment; drive to various locations to transport prisoners; perform repetitive hand movements and fine coordination to book prisoners and prepare documents and data using a computer keyboard and mouse/trackball, use standard office equipment; sit for prolonged periods of time; stand, walk, reach, twist, turn, kneel, bend, squat and stoop in the performance of booking prisoners; converse by telephone and in person, and be clearly understood; interact with the public and all different levels of City staff in a professional manner; and safely lift, carry and maneuver property, boxes, or files weighing up to 35 pounds.

THE JOB

Instruct children and young adults (primarily 5-17 years of age) in beginning to intermediate tennis camp. Class content should provide basic and/or more advanced game mechanics, strategies, and the rules of tennis, depending on the student level of the skill. Class must emphasize the importance of good sportsmanship and team play. The goal is to have fun and develop a skill.

Schedule: Camp will run from June 9th through June 19th.

Group A (5-7yrs) 9:00AM to 9:45AM

Group B (8-10yrs) 10AM to 10:45AM

Group C (11yrs+) 11AM to 11:45AM

Location: LOHS Tennis Courts  

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS

• To provide, organization, leading, and instructing individuals and groups in sports programs.
• Provides encouragement to participants and provides a positive atmosphere for play.
• Supervise and implement safe practices as it relates to participants, programs, and facilities. 
• Implement lesson plans to be provided by the City.
• Maintains rosters and City forms.
• Advises participants on game and facility procedures and policies, as appropriate.
