About the Department

The Central Garage is part of the Public Works Maintenance & Operations Division. Our three-bay facility maintains more than 260 units—including patrol vehicles, Class 5 and above apparatus, newly integrated electric vehicles, heavy equipment, generators, and small engines to ensure City operations can deliver essential services 24/7.

About the Role 

As a Mechanic I/II, you will:

• Planned and carried out preventive maintenance schedules for all city vehicles and equipment.

• Diagnose and repair gasoline, diesel, and alternative-fuel engines; hydraulic, electrical, fuel, ignition, exhaust, and brake systems.

• Operate computerized diagnostic instruments plus a full range of hand, air, and electric tools.

• Maintain concise and clear repair records in our repair management software.

• Perform welding, metal fabrication, tire work, and minor body repairs.

• Provide emergency field assistance and respond to critical fleet issues on a 24-hour standby.

• (Mechanic II only) Lead and review the work of assigned staff and manage garage inventory, purchasing, and repair/maintenance planning

Minimum Qualifications & Certifications

• Education - Associate degree (or equivalent coursework) in automotive technology, mechanics, maintenance management, or related field

• Experience

• • Mechanic I - 2 years progressively responsible automotive diagnosis & repair

• • Mechanic II - 4 years progressively responsible automotive diagnosis & repair

• License - Valid CA Class B driver’s license or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire

• Certifications

• • Mechanic I - ASE certifications are preferred; Master Mechanic is highly desirable

• • Mechanic II - similar to Mechanic I, plus demonstrated journey-level competency.

THE POSITION

The City of San Mateo is seeking a Per Diem Human Resources Technician providing a wide variety of technical human resource work in a variety of program areas including benefit administration; recruitment and selection; compensation; human resources information systems database analysis and report writing, and to do related work as required. This position receives general supervision from the HR Director or Senior HR Analysts.

EXAMPLE DUTIES

• Prepare and maintain personnel records.
• Write, edit and prepare digital and print communications materials.
• Assist in the recruitment process by preparing and distributing job announcements, composing, and placing ads, composing and recording announcements for the job hotline, updating and monitoring recruitment information on the City’s web site, screening applications, and answering inquiries from applicants.
• Work with departments in coordinating examination schedules and locations; prepare necessary correspondence for the examinations; notify candidates; enlist the services of examination board members; assemble and mail packets to oral board members.
• Process, update, and maintain invoices and accounts payable.
• Gather and assemble data and prepare routine reports; maintain a variety of records and files.
• Screen calls and visitors, referring inquiries as appropriate, and respond to requests for information regarding general personnel matters.
• Use specialized technical equipment or computer programs.

JOB RELATED SKILLS & ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

• Personnel policies and procedures relating to recruitment, selection, benefit administration, compensation, human resources information systems, and related areas.
• English usage, grammar, spelling and punctuation.
• Modern office procedures, methods and computer equipment.

Ability to:

• Plan, coordinate, and organize work to meet deadlines.
• Compose routine correspondence demonstrating good English skills in spelling, vocabulary, grammar and punctuation.
• Communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
• Understand, interpret, and apply rules, regulations and memoranda of understanding.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

• Two years of increasingly responsible clerical or account clerical experience, preferably in a human resources environment.
• Equivalent to a high school diploma. Additional specialized training in public administration, human resources management, business administration or a related field is desirable.

Woodside Fire Protection District offers an exceptional Cadet Program for individuals interested in a career in the Fire Service. Cadets gain hands-on experience participating in training and public service events. Cadets work 24-hour shifts and ride-along on emergency calls.

Woodside Cadets will work and be involved in:

About the Position:  The Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (Midpen) Seasonal Ranger Aide is an entry-level position, which provides the opportunity to learn and perform some duties of a ranger under the guidance of experienced ranger staff. Ranger Aides provide visitor information and assistance, travelling by non-emergency Midpen vehicles and on foot throughout an assigned geographical region. Ranger Aides perform a variety of customer service duties such as educating and informing the public about Midpen land use regulations, public relations and provide general information services, but do not have law enforcement authority.  Ranger Aides will assist with routine maintenance work on Midpen land and facilities and may respond to assist with emergency calls. Requirements: Must have the ability to  learn Midpen lands, pertinent laws and regulations and contact, educate and inform the public about the lands and regulations ; administer first aid and CPR; operate and maintain various power tools and equipment; operate two-way radios; communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing; and other duties as assigned.

Certificates Needed: A valid California driver license is required upon appointment; valid professional rescuer CPR certificate and basic First Aid certificate (Midpen will offer training to candidates who do not possess CPR/First Aid certificates upon appointment).

Education & Experience: Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Equivalent to graduation from high school. Six months experience working in a customer service related field.  Some experience or training in a parks settings is desirable.

Schedules:  This is a full-time position. Employees are expected to work full-time (40 hours during the work week); however, school schedules may be accommodated around regular days/hours of operations.  Weekend work (Sat/Sun) is required, with two consistent days off each week (Thursdays/Fridays off).  Incumbents will work an 8-hour workday (plus a 30-minute unpaid meal break). Daily start and end times will be the same for most workdays, typically scheduled within the range of 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.  Must be willing to work weekends, nights, holidays, or extended shifts and work with exposure to difficult circumstances, including exposure to challenging situations and upset individuals. Seasonal assignments will not exceed 950 hours or 7 months, whichever comes first, and do not include benefits.

Working Conditions: Most work is outdoors within Midpen’s open space lands with exposure to inclement weather conditions. This requires the ability to patrol on foot, off trail, and in rugged terrain.  Also requires the ability to perform related emergency services and maintenance and construction work on Midpen lands. Once trained, Ranger Aides may work alone for parts or all of their shifts. Must wear prescribed District uniform and adhere to strict safety procedures and work habits.

PHCD is working closely with Stanford’s Center for Youth Mental Health and Well Being (CYMHWB) leadership who have been instrumental in defining the model for California and successfully influencing the State of California Mental Health Services & Oversight Accountability Commission (MHSOAC) to provide start up grants for five pilot centers around the State.
