ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Redwood City invites you to apply for the position of Associate Long Range Planner within the Community Development Department’s Planning Division. This position, which will be focused primarily on long range planning activities, is an excellent opportunity for a motivated professional to lead or participate in numerous long range efforts underway including:
 

• Greater Downtown Area Plan, an update of the City’s vision for Downtown and adjacent neighborhoods
• Update to the City’s Historic Preservation Ordinance
• Development of objective design standards
• Implementation of the City’s Housing Element
• Research, tracking, and implementation of new State laws
• Development of policies and standards to address climate change risks in coordination with Engineering and Public Works Departments
• Regular maintenance and updates to City’s zoning code and General Plan

In addition to long range planning activities, this position will be assigned a limited number of current planning projects depending on Planning Division needs. The position allows for a hybrid work schedule (3 days in office and 2 days working remotely).

Under general direction from the Assistant Community Development Director, the Associate Long Range Planner performs a variety of complex technical planning activities and completes work related to assigned areas of responsibility.

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Supports development of City policy related to land use, urban design, housing, transportation, and related topics to support long range planning initiatives;
• Conducts research and analysis supporting planning studies and assists in preparation of planning reports and documents;
• Analyzes and prepares amendments to the General Plan and Zoning Ordinance;
• Provides technical assistance to other City staff and to the public in planning and development matters;
• Evaluates and analyzes small- and medium-sized development projects and proposals for compliance with City goals, policies, and ordinances and, as needed, facilitates environmental analysis;
• Facilitates applications for planning permits and environmental review, project manages their review by City staff, and prepares associated staff reports and presentations for the Zoning Administrator, Planning Commission, City Council, and other boards, commissions, and committees;
• Meets with applicants, professionals, citizens, organizations, etc. related to their projects and/or long range policy;
• Attends meetings of and makes presentations before community groups, the Planning Commission, City Council, boards, commissions, and committees, and other governmental bodies in coordination with supervisory staff, as required;
• Staffs the planning counter as needed;
• May be designated as liaison for the Architectural Advisory Committee or Historic Resources Advisory Committee at the direction of the Planning Manager or Community Development Director;
• Performs related duties as assigned.

The Maintenance Instructor is responsible for all the classroom and on-the-job training activities relating to current bus maintenance for the San Mateo County Transit District (SamTrans), Caltrain, and the San Mateo County Transportation Authority (TA).

Sufficient experience, training and/or education to demonstrate the knowledge and ability to successfully perform the essential functions of the position. In lieu of a degree, work-related experience that demonstrates the skills and experience necessary to perform this role will be accepted. • High School Diploma or equivalent
• Six (6) years of related progressive full-time experience as an automotive/truck diagnostic technician, repair technician, or instructor.
• Experience assessing and training others in a classroom or shop environment is required.
• Experience with powertrain electronic controls, on-board Hi-Voltage systems, on-board Hi-pressure systems, ABS, HVAC, and PLC systems is required. 
• Strong oral and written communications skills.  Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet programs.
• Demonstrated journey level mechanic experience showing knowledge, expertise and ability to troubleshoot advanced systems and make repairs.

Preferred Qualifications

• Zero emission technology including battery electric and hydrogen fuel cell experience highly desired.
• Experience in conducting skills and needs assessment surveys desired.

San Mateo County Health is seeking a well-qualified individuals for the position of Environmental Health Specialist IV - Consumer Protection Programs. Environmental Health Specialist will receive general supervision and provide lead direction in performing various countywide environmental health inspection and enforcement activities in one of the several specialized technical areas such as consumer protection, food sanitation, recreational water, water, sewage, land use, and cross connection control; vector control; solid waste; medical waste; and housing and institutions.

There is currently one regular vacancy that will function as a Food Plan Check Specialist within the Environmental Health Division Food and Pool Programs, located in San Mateo, but the position will include travel/driving throughout the county to perform duties of the job.

Environmental Health Services ensures a safe and healthful environment in the County's 20 cities and unincorporated areas through education, monitoring and enforcement of a variety of regulatory programs, as well as ongoing services to the community.

Duties within the Consumer Protection Programs include:

• Lead specialized programs within the Food and Pool Programs, such as Food and Pool Facilities Plan Review, Cottage Food Operations, Microenterprise Home Kitchen Operations (MEHKO), Temporary Food Events, Mobile Food Facilities, and Certified Farmers Markets.
• Lead quality assurance, quality control and standardization functions.

DEFINITION

Under general supervision, performs a full range of technical and public contact duties in support of the
Town’s code compliance program. This position emphasizes education and prevention by serving as a
resource, partner, and guide to residents, contractors, and businesses to promote voluntary compliance and
community pride. Responsibilities include proactive community education and outreach, monitoring
construction activity, investigating and resolving complaints, and ensuring compliance with the Town’s
municipal, fire, building, housing, zoning, and related codes and regulations. When enforcement is
necessary, the Coordinator supports individuals through the resolution process by clearly explaining
requirements and facilitating corrective action. Work involves extensive collaboration with Town
departments and the public, detailed documentation and use of case management systems, and the
consistent, fair application of codes and policies. Performs related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives general supervision from the Building Official. Exercises no direct supervision over staff.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS

The Code Compliance Coordinator class series is flexibly staffed; positions are normally filled at
the I level, with advancement to the II level based on demonstrated proficiency, possession of
required qualifications, and management approval.

Code Compliance Coordinator I (Journey-Level):
This is the fully qualified, journey-level class in the Code Compliance series. Incumbents are
responsible for performing the full range of duties related to municipal code compliance,
including complaint investigation, construction site monitoring, inspections, case management,
and public education. Employees in this class are expected to work independently, apply codes
and regulations with discretion, and serve as educators and resources to the community.
Positions at this level may receive direction or instruction as new or unusual situations arise but
generally operate with a high degree of independence and responsibility.

Code Compliance Coordinator II (Advanced-Level)
This is the advanced-level class in the Code Compliance series. Positions at this level are
distinguished from Code Compliance Coordinator I by the performance of more complex or
sensitive compliance cases, the expectation to serve as a subject-matter resource, and potential
responsibility for mentoring less experienced staff. Incumbents are expected to exercise greater
judgment and may be assigned leadership in high-profile cases, advanced compliance activities,
or coordination of multi-departmental enforcement efforts. Progression to this level is typically
based on several years of successful performance as a Code Compliance Coordinator I, advanced
training and/or certification, and demonstration of proficiency in handling the most complex
cases.

Advancement to the Code Compliance Coordinator II level is typically achieved through
progression from the I level and is contingent upon (i) management’s determination that the
incumbent is regularly performing the full range of duties of the higher classification; (ii)
demonstrated satisfactory job performance; (iii) incumbent meeting the minimum qualifications
for the higher classification; and (iv) management approval for advancement to Code Compliance
Coordinator II.

The City of San Bruno Fire Department offers an exciting opportunity to serve as a Fire Cadet. Our one-year Fire Cadet program is an unpaid, volunteer work experience program that offers hands-on training, and introductory knowledge of firefighting skills, fire service tools and equipment. Cadets respond to emergency calls, render Basic Life Support and participate in training, and participate in the daily station duties.

Cadets must be willing to commit to 24-hour shifts, two to four times per month. The cadet program is one year in length. Upon completion, this program meets the manipulative training and experience requirements in obtaining a California State Fire Marshal’s Office Firefighter II certification.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• State of California EMT or National Registry EMT certification
• Possession of a valid driver’s license and a driving record with minimal violations

THE DEPARTMENT

The Community Development Department coordinates and manages the City’s development-related functions: including long-range planning, housing policy and programs, planning project review, zoning and building code updates, development and subdivision review, permit processing, building inspection services, and code compliance. The Department also serves as the environmental coordinator for the City, ensuring compliance with the California Coastal Act and California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).     

The Department provides staff support to the City Council, Planning Commission, Architectural Advisory Committee, and Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee.  The Department team includes a Director, two Senior Planners, an Associate Planner for Housing, part-time Planning Analyst, Administrative Assistant, Permit Technician, Community Preservation Specialist, and a Building Official.

The Position

The City of Half Moon Bay invites qualified candidates to apply for Assistant Planner or Associate Planner (appointment dependent on qualifications). Both positions support the City’s current and long-range planning functions with a strong focus on the City’s Local Coastal Program.. The Assistant/Associate planner reports to the Senior Planner-Supervisor.

Assistant Planner – Essential Job Functions

• Perform routine and moderately complex administrative, technical, and professional work in current planning.
• Conduct technical review of development and land use applications.
• Prepare staff reports for routine land use permits and present recommendations.
• Serve as first point of contact at the public counter; provide customer service to residents, applicants, architects, contractors, and stakeholders.
• Explain municipal codes, ordinances, the General Plan, and the certified Local Coastal Program.
• Coordinate project review with departments and agencies.
• Research and compile data needed for ordinance drafting and permit review.
• Support long-range planning tasks and community engagement.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Associate Planner – Essential Job Functions

• Apply Local Coastal Program policies and conduct thorough analysis for compliance.
• Prepare detailed staff reports; present to Planning Commission and City Council.
• Evaluate environmental impacts and prepare CEQA documents (NOEs, Initial Studies, Negative Declarations, NODs).
• Coordinate CEQA work with Senior Planners and consultants.
• Conduct technical and policy studies on zoning, land use, coastal access, housing, transportation, and related topics.
• Assist with zoning code amendments and long-range planning initiatives.
• Coordinate consultant contracts.
• Provide technical and professional advice to applicants, residents, staff, and agencies.
• Review architectural drawings, elevations, landscaping, and site plans for compliance.
• Prepare maps, graphics, charts, and databases using GIS.
• Participate in community engagement efforts, workshops, and hearings.
• Support design review and long-range planning documents.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
