DEFINITION

Account Clerk I: Under supervision, perform clerical work of moderate difficulty in connection with preparing, maintaining or checking financial or statistical records; receive and receipt money; operate office accounting machines; do related work as required.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

Cashier

The Cashier receives and receipts cash payments and maintains daily files of validated documents; balances transaction and prepares cash reports daily; does responsible clerical accounting work in maintaining financial records, recording and checking financial transactions, and preparing financial or statistical statements or reports; batch balances cash from various City entities; organizes money and sets up daily starting cash drawer; computer posts utility transactions as required; maintains the Petty Cash Fund; answers customer inquiries on account status using computer equipment; issues various parking permits and maintains related files; store, issues, and controls vehicle ignition keys for City pool cars, and records and reports mileage/usage; types routine documents; and assists with various Utility Billing Division activities as required.

Utility Billing Division

Either manually or through the use of computers, as appropriate, does responsible clerical accounting work in the maintenance of financial records, recording and checking financial transactions, and preparing financial or statistical statements or reports; interacts with residents through phone, email, and in person; receives and receipts money; prepares records to open, change, maintain or close utility accounts; performs routine arithmetical computations; opening, sorting, and processing mail; operates adding machines; does routine typing of documents and precise computer data entry of financial data.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of: 

Account Clerk I level: Methods, principles, and terminology used in financial clerical work; and modern office practices.

Ability to:  

Perform clerical work of average difficulty; prepare basic financial reports, maintain journals, ledgers, and complex files; operate adding and calculating machines; perform arithmetic computations rapidly and accurately; interact positively and cooperate with co-workers, respond politely to customers, work as a team member, function under demanding time pressure, respond in a positive manner to supervision, and attend work and perform duties on a regular and consistent basis.

Experience:

Account Clerk I:  One year of clerical experience involving financial record keeping and general office work; six (6) months of experience using computer spreadsheets is desirable.

Education:  Graduation from high school or equivalent.

THE POSITION

To monitor City facilities during programs and rentals; to open and close facilities; to set up and take down equipment; to provide information and assistance to the public in person and on the phone; to perform general administrative tasks when assigned; to perform certain custodial duties; to ensure user compliance with policies, regulations, and laws pertaining to facility use; and to perform other duties as assigned. The purpose of this recruitment is to fill current temporary/part-time positions.

Temporary / Part-Time employees work no more than 130 hours per month

AND 960 hours per fiscal year.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

QUALIFICATIONS

Age Requirement:  At least 18 years of age

Education:  Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent

Experience:  At least one (1) year of experience in resource management, parks & recreation, or other relevant customer service positions.

License and Certificates:  Possession of a valid California Driver's License is required upon hire.

The City of Newark is seeking an experienced skateboarding instructor who can connect with participants of all ages, especially youth and teens. The Recreation Instructor will be responsible for the planning and implementation of skateboarding classes to be held at Mel Nunes Skatepark in Newark. Responsibilities include teaching fundamental techniques, promoting safety, and creating an encouraging environment where participants can build confidence and have fun while learning to skate.

THE POSITION
To perform a variety of tasks in the maintenance of City-owned buildings, equipment and facilities.

The purpose of this recruitment is to hire a Temporary / Part-Time position. Applicants who do not meet the minimum qualifications for the Facility Maintenance Worker I position may be considered for employment as an Intern. Temporary / Part-Time employees work no more than 130 hours per month AND 960 hours per fiscal year. Typical work schedule will be three 8-hour shifts per week, excluding weekends and evenings.

IDEAL CANDIDATE
This position will perform semi-skilled tasks in a variety of light construction and maintenance activities. The Ideal Candidate will be customer-friendly and be a solutions-oriented professional who is flexible in dealing with shifting priorities, have good time management skills, and possess the ability to work effectively in the absence of supervision.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Maintain and repair City buildings, equipment and facilities by performing a variety of semiskilled carpentry, plumbing,  painting, heating/air conditioning, mechanical repair and electrical work as necessary. Inspect City buildings to locate conditions indicating the need for repairs and maintenance; assist in establishing and implementing preventative maintenance programs. Operate and maintain a variety of heavy tools and equipment, including small power and hand tools. Work cooperatively with others. Regular and consistent attendance.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
Remodel and repair a variety of building components such as counters, tables, desks, bookshelves, cabinets, partitions, walls, windows and doors; boilers, water pumps, exhaust fans, compressors, and other water and sewage system plumbing as required. Perform electrical work such as wiring and rewiring; replace switches, ballast and receptacles as required. Prepare simple activity and related reports; maintain inventory and work records as required. Requisition supplies and materials. Perform general janitorial duties as needed. Perform other facility maintenance duties as assigned.

The Newark Recreation and Community Services Department is looking for Aquatic Instructors (Swim Instructors) for our fantastic swim lessons and aquatic programs, to work at the Silliman Activity & Family Aquatic Center. We are looking for positive, patient, motivated, self-driven individuals that have a passion for working with children and wish to make a difference in a child's life by teaching them lifelong water skills!

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Under the supervision of the Aquatics Coordinator, this position provides swim instruction to adults and children and conducts related work as required

• Teach group and private swim lessons to adults and children of all abilities
• Use proper teaching tools, equipment, and techniques while teaching swim lessons
• Maintain order and prevent accidents through the enforcement of policies, rules, regulations, and ordinances governing the conduct of patrons in the pool area.

We are seeking two outgoing and community-oriented individuals to join our Public Works department as temporary, part-time and/or substitute Crossing Guards. This rewarding and impactful position safely assists school children in crossing busy intersections by halting vehicles through the use of mechanical signals and/or hand-held stop signs; maintains order among children waiting to cross the street at street crossing points; permits street crossing only when safe to do so; reports the license numbers of vehicles violating school crosswalk-related traffic laws to Community Services management personnel or the Simi Valley Police Department; and, instills an awareness in school children of safety measures necessary for safe street crossing. 

Pay rate for this position is $16.50 hourly

Any combination of education and experience, which would provide the necessary knowledge and abilities, along with the following special requirements:

• Must be 18 years of age or older, have open availability, and be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Must be able to remain calm and use good judgment in emergency situations.
• Basic first aid knowledge is desirable.
• Must possess good hearing ability across a frequency range from 500 Hz to 3,000 Hz. Hearing levels meeting these requirements in the better ear either with or without a hearing aid will be acceptable. If an individual meets the criteria by using a hearing aid, then he/she must wear that hearing aid and be in possession of a spare power source for the hearing aid.
• Must possess corrected vision of 20/40 minimum, with no color blindness.

The Position

The City of Fremont is seeking a full-time Urban Forestry Service Corps Supervisor. This position is temporary, starting January 6, 2025, and ending December 19, 2025. This position works five days a week supervising and instructing small cohorts of Urban Forestry Service Corps members through a combination of in-class learning and in-the-field service projects. This position reports to the city Urban Forestry Manager.
