The Department

The Community Services Department plays a key role in enhancing the community and ensuring the citizens of Fremont receive excellent customer service through the management of recreation facilities, quality recreation and environmental programs, and park planning.

The Position

The Park Ranger/Naturalist will provide information and assistance to the public, as well as enforce laws, rules, regulations, and the Fremont Municipal Code. The primary focus of the position will be to assist with implementing the initiatives of the Homeless Task Force. Additionally, the incumbent may conduct natural resource protection and environmental education programs.

Examples of Job Duties

• Work in prescribed uniform and is responsible for general patrol and supervision of City of Fremont’s parks, plazas and trails.
• Interact and engage with unhoused populations on a daily basis, providing guidance and encouragement, enforcing laws and regulations and connecting community members with service providers.
• Perform homeless response strategies and mitigation efforts, such as posting notice to abate nuisance tags, collection on unattended property and removal of debris.
• Provide assistance and act as a liaison to the public, responding to questions concerning park and recreation facilities, programs, policies, and rules and regulations.
• Demonstrate knowledge of and enforce the Fremont Municipal Code or other rules, regulations and ordinances pertaining to park operations within the City, including the issuance of citations.

The Newark Recreation and Community Services Department is looking for Aquatic Instructors (Swim Instructors) for our fantastic swim lessons and aquatic programs, to work at the Silliman Activity & Family Aquatic Center. We are looking for positive, patient, motivated, self-driven individuals that have a passion for working with children and wish to make a difference in a child's life by teaching them lifelong water skills! 

Those that are successful in the application review will be invited to attend an in-person interview. Please note that this position requires you to work in an indoor aquatic environment subject to warm/humid temperatures. 

**No certifications or previous experience is required! Candidates must be comfortable in the water. Swim Instructor training will be provided once hired.**

• Applicants should be able to work at least 12-20 hours per week, year-round, including weekends and holidays, with mandatory trainings. 
• Summer Swim Lessons run on Monday-Thurday mornings (7:45 am – 12:00 pm), Monday-Thurday evenings (3:45 pm - 8:00 pm), and Saturday mornings (7:45 am- 12:00 pm). 
• Off-Season Swim Lessons run on Monday/Wednesday evenings (3:45 pm - 7:45 pm), Tuesday/Thursday evenings (3:45 pm - 7:45 pm), and Saturday mornings (7:45 am- 12:00 pm). 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Under the supervision of the Aquatics Coordinator, this position provides swim instruction to adults and children and conducts related work as required
• Swim Instructors teach, supervise, and assess students of all ages and abilities
• Teach group and private swim lessons to adults and children of all abilities
• Use proper teaching tools, equipment, and techniques while teaching swim lessons
• Maintain order and prevent accidents through the enforcement of policies, rules, regulations, and ordinances governing the conduct of patrons in the pool area.

Swim Instructors instruct organized aquatic safety and swim classes with the safety standards and procedures set by the American Red Cross. The Coordinator is responsible for providing the highest quality of guest service to all visitors. The Coordinator will be responsible for administrative duties and assist at various City facilities, as assigned. In addition, the Coordinator will monitor facility rentals and support the special events. This is potentially a year around part time position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be a minimum of eighteen (18) years of age
• Must have high school diploma or GED equivalent and have one year college or volunteer / paid experience that would qualify the applicant to perform all duties
• Must have reliable transportation to and from job assignments
• Must possess strong organizational skills and be able to multi-task
• Must be able to establish and maintain productive relations with others
• Must be willing and able to work days, nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required
• Depending upon assignment, may need to possess Class C Driver's License

REQUIREMENTS FOR EMPLOYMENT

• Must be able to handle sensitive and/or stressful situations or information with tact, discretion and significant awareness of confidentiality
• Must effectively communicate with adults and children from a variety of cultural backgrounds
• Willingness to comply with suspected child abuse reporting (11166.5 PC)
• Employees are required to be certified in Adult/Child CPR, First Aid, & AED from American Red Cross, American Heart Association or supervisor approved equivalent. Employees must be certified within 30 days of hire date or prior to the first day of work, whichever occurs earlier.
• Fingerprinting and TB test are required
• Must submit verification of legal right to work in the United States as a condition of employment

We are seeking two clinic managers who will operate under the general direction of the Deputy Director of Ambulatory Care. The clinic managers plan, coordinate, direct, manage, supervise and evaluate the full range of programs and services offered at the community-based health clinics; recommend, develop, implement and evaluate goals, objectives, policies and procedures related to clinics; provide leadership and coordination to community groups, public and private agencies, advisory boards and volunteers in planning and implementing clinic services; and provide highly complex staff support to senior-level management. The clinic managers also lead and participate in complex performance improvement activities; develop systems to track the progress of strategic initiatives, departmental operational goals, and communicate progress in key forums; develop productive relationships with labor partners while navigating operational needs and developing and sustaining effective employee engagement processes. The clinic managers exercise direct and indirect supervision over a diversified clinical and support staff team.

The ideal candidates will have working knowledge of clinic operations, particularly in outpatient clinics that offer primary care, adolescent care, and pediatrics, as well as in budgeting and scheduling. The ideal candidates will also be experienced in change management, improving patient satisfaction scores, and continuous process improvement (Lean). Experience in a public/safety net clinic is highly desirable. The ideal candidates will also have the ability to lead complex performance activities.

Examples Of Duties

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Plan, direct, monitor, coordinate and evaluate the operations and service delivery programs of a regional health clinic or clinics, including needs assessment, program design and planning, implementation, evaluation, and regulatory enforcement.

• Direct, coordinate, and participate in the development and implementation of program goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and priorities that balance both mandated services and community health care needs.

• Assess the quality of patient care; develop and generate community support for changes or enhancements to service delivery methods; advocate for patients with medical staff to ensure appropriate care is provided.

• Monitor census/patient flow and project future patient care demands; develop staffing schedules and assignments to provide the necessary level and type of care.

• Develop, present, and advocate for clinic funding; administer and monitor the approved budget to ensure the accomplishment of clinic care objectives within budget restrictions.

• Act as liaison between senior-level management, advisory boards and commissions, regulatory bodies, and program staff to ensure that all appropriate policies and guidelines are followed, and that programs are funded with adequate resources to maintain mandated and expected levels of service.

• Maintain an effective working relationship with a variety of public and private organizations, including other Health Services Agency staff, County departments, and agencies.

• Consult with other program managers on relevant program issues; develop alternative strategies for dealing with community health needs and assist in the implementation of solutions as necessary.

• Act as advocate and spokesperson in the community in support of programs and services; interpret, explain, and direct the enforcement of community health-related standards, codes, and regulations.

• Provide highly complex staff assistance to senior-level management and related commissions and advisory boards on program issues.

• Prepare a wide variety of detailed written reports, policies, procedures, and contracts.

• Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is:

• Three years of administrative or managerial experience in a healthcare delivery, social, or community services organization, including significant responsibility for one or more of the following: program and budget development, program service delivery, funding, utilization, coordination of community resources, or program evaluation.

Danville Poet Laureate

The Town Council created the Poet Laureate position in September 2008 to serve as a public advocate for the appreciation and advancement of the literary arts, particularly poetry, reading poetry for civic events and dedications.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Poet Laureate include the following:

(a)       create and read poetry for civic events and activities, as invited by the Town Council;

(b)       serve as a liaison between the Arts Commission and local literary organizations; and,

(c)       act as a resource on the topic of poetry.

Qualifications

Candidates must meet the following qualifications:  Danville resident; age 18 or older; author of published poetry or willingness to publish poetry during the term, if selected; and, affiliation with literary organizations is preferred, but not required.

Term of Office

The term of office of the Poet Laureate is two (2) years, unless otherwise determined by the Town Council. 

Compensation

The Poet Laureate does not receive compensation for their services or attendance at meetings and events. 

Residency Requirement

The Poet Laureate must be a resident of the Town of Danville.
