The Position

The Engineering Manager will provide and participate in critical team leadership in assuring that all engineering services, goals, projects and initiatives meet the high-performance standards of the Department and City. The City of Foster City is seeking energetic, self-motivated, and organized candidates for the Deputy City Clerk position in the Communications/City Clerk Department. This is an excellent opportunity for someone seeking variety and challenges in a fast-paced environment while providing quality service to the community with a dynamic team. 

This management level position assists the Communications Director/City Clerk in City Council agenda management, the administration of municipal elections and FPPC reporting, organizing responses to Public Records Act requests, executing post City Council meeting follow up, including processing of Council actions and agreements, coordinating the City-wide records management program, and budget operations. The Deputy City Clerk may also provide general support to the Communications Division with public engagement/outreach efforts. 

Education and Experience
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities. A typical way would be:

Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade supplemented by course work in public administration or a closely related field.

Experience: Five (5) years of increasingly responsible clerical experience in a municipal organization of which at least two years have involved providing administrative office support services at the division or departmental level in a public agency.

Selection Process
Applications will be reviewed for relevant education, experience, training and other job related qualifications. Based upon a review of employment applications received, a limited number of the qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the examination process.

The process will consist of an Oral Panel Interview (weighted 80%) and a written exercise (weighted 20%). An eligibility list will be established from those who pass the examination process with a score of 70% or higher. Current and future vacancies may be filled from this list. The list will remain in effect for at least one year unless exhausted sooner. 

The department will invite the most qualified candidates from the eligibility list to a final department interview. The Communications/City Clerk department will make the hiring decision.

The Department

The Parks and Recreation Department mission is to provide opportunities for physical, cultural and social well-being; protect and enhance the physical environment; and ensure the effective and efficient use of public facilities and open space. The Parks and Recreation Department is organized by program area, with each program administered by a supervisor, coordinator, or specialist. 

The Building Maintenance Division’s scope of duties includes, but is not limited to the following:

• Provides janitorial, preventative maintenance services, and necessary building and related equipment repairs to all of the City’s facilities, including interior and exterior work.
• Builds and/or installs items involving finish carpentry, painting, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and other skilled crafts work.
• Manages contracts with vendors maintaining, repairing and upgrading building systems.
• Responds to emergency facility-related issues.

There are two current vacancies for this job classification. The shifts are as follows: 

Day Shift: Schedule is 7:00 am – 3:30 pm, Monday – Friday.

The Town of Hillsborough is seeking highly motivated, positive, and people-oriented candidates for part-time per diem Communications Officer positions in the Police Department. Shift coverage is needed on daytime and overnight shifts. This position is only open to candidates with two or more years of experience as a Public Safety Dispatcher in California in the previous five (5) years.

GENERAL PURPOSE

Under general supervision, receives and transmits routine and emergency telephone and radio traffic;

dispatches and coordinates police, fire, public works and other municipal staff and equipment via multi-frequency two-way radio; maintains and processes a variety of communications reports, records, and radio logs; and does related work as required.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS

Communications Officer II

This classification has primary responsibility for staffing the Town’s public safety dispatch communication center. Under most circumstances, the training and experience for this position would occur by having prior experience working for another police department as a Communications Officer for a period of at least two years.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Communications Officer II typically performs, but is not limited to, the duties noted below on a regular basis:

• Receives and handles incoming telephone and voice radio calls for police, fire, ambulance, and public works

• Secures and records information as to exact locations and circumstances using radio or other equipment to dispatch appropriate units to the emergency scene.

• Maintains radio contact with local units on assignment and directs and coordinates with staff from other agencies on a mutual-aid basis, as needed.

• Operates a multi-channel two-way radio, telephones, teletype, office equipment and software systems.

• Performs numerous duties simultaneously.

• Prioritizes calls for service as well as other work-related tasks such as assisting with schedule, monitoring email account or assisting with social media.

• Maintains radio logs and records other information as required.

• Maintains resource files for computer aided dispatch system.

• Serves as trainer to newly hired dispatchers on as needed basis.

• Assist with providing state-mandated training on relevant matters to other department staff, as directed.

• Oversees and performs work related to the warrant process.

• Maintains dispatch center work area and equipment in clean and working condition

• Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Equivalent to graduation from high school

Graduation from or enrollment in a POST accredited Dispatch Academy.

Experience:
Two or more year(s) of experience as a Public Safety Dispatcher in California in the past five years.

License or Certificate:

Must possess and maintain a valid California Class C driver’s license and have a satisfactory driving record.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment:

Physical Skills: Able to use standard office equipment, including a computer; mobility to work in a typical office setting to use standard office equipment; sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, twist, and maintain sustained posture in a seated position for prolonged periods of time; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person, over the telephone, and radio; lift and carry 35 pound boxes, files, and materials.

The City of San Mateo Public Works Department is seeking a Traffic and Lighting Technician

The Department

The Public Works Department is comprised of the Engineering and Facilities Services Division (EFSD) and the Environmental Services Division (ESD). Each division is led by a Deputy Director reporting to the Director of Public Works. The department is responsible for the City’s major capital projects and infrastructure including streets, street lights, traffic signals, sewer and storm conveyance systems, wastewater treatment plant, pump stations, a major lagoon, and dams and levees. A key player on this team is the Traffic and Lighting Technician. The Position

The Traffic and Lighting Technician performs skilled electrical and mechanical work in the maintenance and repair of traffic control signage, traffic signal equipment, and street lights; and guides the work of and trains other maintenance personnel, and performs related work as required.  Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Guide and participate in the work of other maintenance personnel.  Ability to set-up work zone safety and prepare traffic control work plans.
• Inspect, install, remove, and repair signal controls and auxiliary equipment such as light standards, control boxes, light fixtures, lamps, and circuitry; diagnose malfunctions; adjust and replace electronic and mechanical components.
• Inspect, install, remove and repair street lights and auxiliary equipment.
• Repair, replace or modify electric and electronic components, controllers, relays, switches, fuses, timers and other parts; design and construct special test equipment for shop testing of electronic components.
• Investigate complaints and reports of signal and traffic light malfunctions; adjust, repair or remove defective equipment; make field repairs of damaged equipment.
• Identify, locate and indicate with appropriate identification markers underground utilities (USA); respond to USA work orders within regulatory requirements; and document services accordingly.
• Be available for standby assignments in accordance with Department policies and procedures.
• Assist in the design of electrical circuits and systems for street lighting and traffic signals.
• Inspect the work of contractors during the course of construction and upon completion.
• Monitor traffic control computer and make adjustments as necessary.

The Traffic and Lighting Technician receives general direction from the Field Maintenance Manager and direct supervision from a Public Works Supervisor or higher level department staff and may exercise technical or functional direction over and provide work review to a Traffic Safety Worker or Maintenance Worker I/II.

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Facilities & Equipment Superintendent, this position performs all types of concrete work at District facilities as required.  May perform other duties as assigned within the Streets and Grounds Department, thus, will include working with the Laborers and Bridge Carpenter.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will be at least 18 years of age or possess a high school diploma or equivalent and preferably have at least one season or comparable experience working in a classroom, after-school program, or camp environment. Candidates should demonstrate strong communication skills when working with youth, families, and staff, and be able to work independently while following direction from higher-level recreation staff. The position requires individuals who show leadership and initiative in the implementation of program activities and who work cooperatively as part of a team. Successful candidates must pass all required background checks upon hire. Availability is required Monday through Friday from May through August between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

Recreation Specialist II Example Duties:

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Collaborate with Recreation staff to Plan and lead developmentally appropriate activities for children ages 5–12
• Provide professional guidance and support to Recreation Specialist I staff
