The Public Works Department consists of several different Divisions, including the Administrative Division, Business Group, Wastewater Treatment Plant, Clean Water Program, Fleet and Facilities, Data Management, Field Maintenance, Regulatory Compliance, Capital Improvements Program, and Transportation (including Traffic Engineering, Right-of-Way/Private Development, and Transportation Planning) . The Public Works Department has two Deputy Directors for optimal performance and integration, who oversee different Divisions, and the two deputies work together to meet the needs of the community. Currently, the Director of Public Works oversees the Deputy Directors, Administrative Division, Business Group, and Wastewater Treatment Plant. The Deputy Director on staff currently oversees the following divisions: Field Maintenance, Regulatory Compliance, Capital Improvements Program, and Transportation (including Traffic Engineering, Right-of-Way/Private Development, and Transportation Planning). Depending on the City’s operational needs as well as your skillset and experience, the City could adjust the responsibilities of the Deputy Directors within the Public Works Department.

What You’ll Do

The Deputy Director of Public Works is responsible for directing and managing all programs within the Divisions for which they are responsible. This may include capital improvement program development and implementation, traffic engineering, private development review, regulatory compliance, solid waste management, operations and maintenance, asset and data management, construction management, fleet coordination, downtown coordination, and building maintenance; and the position may serve as the City Engineer and/or the Director of Public Works in their absence.

On-Call Expectations

Emergency Coordinators may be assigned on-call duties with a minimum of 7 days' advance notice, distributed equitably among qualified staff. During on-call periods, employees must remain within 30 miles of the facility and respond within 30 minutes of notification while maintaining reliable communication. Employees will be compensated for all on-call hours outside of normal working hours under applicable labor standards and collective bargaining agreements. Employees retain the right to engage in personal activities during on-call periods, cannot be assigned more than 7 consecutive days without a 48-hour break, and maintain full union representation rights and grievance procedures for any on-call related issues. All provisions comply with Fair Labor Standards Act requirements and union standards for emergency worker compensation and working conditions.

Key Responsibilities

• Emergency Planning & Coordination
• Support technical tools such as SMCAlert , EOC software, GIS dashboards, and mapping platforms
• Develop visual aids and dashboards to support situational awareness
• Program Administration & Technical Support
• Develop and update all-hazards emergency plans, policies, and procedures
• Collaborate with County departments and regional partners to ensure coordinated response strategies
• Lead and support planning meetings, working groups, and operational briefings
• Will be assigned to the Emergency Operations Center when activated
• Participate in on-call rotation and respond to emergency incidents as needed
• Liaise with Incident Commanders and partner agencies during activations
• Support situational awareness, logistics coordination, and field communications
• Provide Just-In-Time Training and support for County staff and first responders
• Training, Exercises & Public Engagement
• Help develop and administer the Integrated Preparedness Plan ( IP P)
• Coordinate and conduct drills and community outreach events
• Represent the County at regional stakeholder meetings and public forums
• Maintain inventory of emergency equipment, supplies, and documentation

Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered. A typical path includes:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in emergency management, public administration, planning, GIS, or a related field

Experience: At least one year of experience supporting emergency planning, response coordination, training, or related public service activities

Preferred:

• ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800 certifications (or willingness to obtain)
• Familiarity with EOC functions and emergency notification systems

Position Summary

Under the direction of the shift Supervisor, places and removes traffic tubes in roadway as needed for traffic diversion on Bridge and in Toll Plaza. Cleans and polishes District vehicles, cleans and services traffic tubes and restrooms, works varied hours and shifts, assists Shift Supervisor as needed and performs other duties as required.

• AM shifts: 6:00am – 2:00pm
• Swing Shifts: 1:30pm – 9:30pm

Essential Responsibilities

• Relocates traffic tubes for reversal of traffic on Bridge and in Plaza

• Cleans and polishes District vehicles and assist in servicing District vehicles

Minimum Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.  

• Certification in personal training or group fitness instruction required (e.g., ACE, NASM, or other recognized certification).  

• At least one year of experience in fitness instruction, personal training, or a related field preferred.  

• Experience in group instruction and one-on-one training is highly desirable. 

Knowledge and Skills

This position requires a knowledge of general fitness principles, exercise techniques, and wellness practices, instructing and motivating individuals or groups in a fitness setting, excellent communication to provide clear instruction and positive feedback and assessing client needs and creating individualized fitness programs. The position also requires ability to operate and maintain fitness equipment safely. 

Special Requirements: 

• Current certification in First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). 

• Fitness certifications (e.g., Personal Trainer, Group Fitness Instructor) from a nationally recognized organization.

POSITION DESCRIPTION 
 

The City of San Bruno Community Services Departments is hiring for a Library Page position at the San Bruno Public Library. The Library Page position is an entry-level, part-time role with limited benefits. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in playing a key role in the library's daily operations. Candidates must have a flexible schedule and be available to work 14-19 hours per week, including weekdays, evenings, and Saturdays, to meet the library's scheduling needs.

Under the general supervision of library staff, Library Pages perform routine tasks to maintain the organization of the library collections, including the shelving, sorting, and filing of books, magazines, audiovisual materials, and other library materials. Pages also clean and mend library materials, help set-up for various Library programs, assist in the opening and closing of the Library building for public access, and perform other clerical tasks as needed.

San Mateo Consolidated Fire Department

The San Mateo Consolidated Fire Department commenced operations on January 13, 2019, and serves the cities of Belmont, Foster City, and San Mateo as a Joint Powers Authority. What You’ll Do

• Interpret and enforce provisions of fire prevention and fire safety laws, ordinances, and other regulations.
• Perform periodic inspections of new and existing buildings, structures and installations requiring fire clearances; identify fire hazards; recommend corrective actions; perform follow-up inspections to see that corrective actions have been taken.
• Investigate complaints pertaining to violation of fire prevention laws, issue correction orders as necessary.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The County Executive’s Office is seeking a Management Analyst to join the Office of Budget, Policy & Performance (BP&P) — a team at the core of the County’s budgetary operations and strategic planning.

This is more than a budget job — it's an opportunity to build technical expertise, lead high-impact projects, and work closely with County leadership. The position is open to both external candidates as a Limited Term position and current County employees through a Work-Out-of-Class assignment (up to 18 months).

Analysts are deeply involved in building the County’s operating and capital budgets from the ground up — gathering data, consulting with departments, evaluating requests, and helping shape budget strategy.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Budget Development and Creation

• Collaborate with assigned departments to build detailed annual and mid-cycle operating and capital budgets.

• Analyze revenue forecasts, expenditure plans, and fund balances to ensure accurate, balanced budgets.
• Draft budget documents, schedules, narrative justifications, and presentations for leadership and the Board of Supervisors.
• Monitor departmental compliance with budget policy, timelines, and reporting standards.
• Support the County’s transition to enhanced or new budget platforms and tools.

Fiscal Policy and System Support

• Lead or contribute to major budget system administration efforts, including testing, implementation, training, and troubleshooting.
• Maintain accuracy and consistency of budget data across departments using a variety of systems and Excel-based tools.
• Use financial models and data visualization to highlight trends, risks, and opportunities.

Strategic and Analytical Work

• Evaluate fiscal implications of department proposals and develop funding recommendations.
• Produce reports, dashboards, and decision packages that support executive decision-making.
• Support capital planning, resource allocation, and long-term financial forecasting.
• Conceive of and execute analytical projects for County Executives and the Board of Supervisors.

Performance and Project Management

• Track program and policy performance across departments to ensure alignment with fiscal priorities.
• Coordinate and manage special projects, including the Children, Youth & Family Budget, Youth Commission, Lean improvement initiatives, and Measure K funding allocations.
• Engage with stakeholders at all levels to implement policy and funding strategies.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

• Has direct experience in public budget development and preparation, including salary projections, multi-year forecasting, and funding analysis, finance, and/or accounting or an interest in and aptitude for these types of work.

• Seeks to grow into leadership roles in finance, operations, or public administration.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying, unless otherwise specified. A typical way to qualify is: 

• A bachelor’s degree in public administration, business, finance, political science, or related field plus three years of analyst experience; OR
• A master’s degree in the same fields plus one year of analyst experience; OR
• Five years of progressively responsible analyst experience in a public or nonprofit agency.

Knowledge of

• Public budgeting and financial management processes in government.
• Financial reporting, cost accounting, and multi-year forecasting.
• ERP or similar systems, Excel modeling, and data presentation tools.
• Local government operations and interdepartmental coordination.

Skill/Ability to

• Independently manage the full lifecycle of departmental budget development.
• Interpret and explain complex financial information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Work collaboratively with department fiscal officers, executives, and elected officials.
• Prepare clear, concise, and comprehensive budget documents and reports.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

The duties and responsibilities listed below are illustrative only and are not meant to be a full and exhaustive listing of all of the duties and responsibilities of the classification. Duties may include, but are not limited to:

• Participating in implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities of the Planning Division;
• Review and manage current planning applications such as design review, conditional use permits, administrative permits, environment documents of various scales and complexities;
• Able to manage multiple planning projects independently while working effectively with other City departments, developers, and community members;
• Providing technical assistance to the public regarding planning matters, including assisting at the public counter;
• Reviewing architectural and construction plans, development applications, and preparing comprehensive written and oral reports;
• Attending meetings and making presentations before the Planning Commission and/or City Council, as required;
• Perform advance planning assignments such as Zoning code amendments, General Plan amendments, Specific Plans, Housing Element implementation, and various other assignments;
• Establishing good working relationships and working cooperatively with all City departments; and
• Participating in zoning code enforcement as necessary; and other duties as assigned.

The City of Pacifica is a beautiful coastal community, just south of San Francisco with an exciting opportunity. We are currently hiring an Engineering Intern to join our team. Under general supervision, the new team member will perform sub-professional engineering work involving manual and computer drafting, traffic data gathering, records management, map interpretation and processing, retrieval of information, assist with field surveys, and to do related work as required. This position will assist the Department of Public Works, Engineering Division.
