Summary Description

Under immediate supervision performs semi-skilled to skilled maintenance, repair, and construction work assigned to the streets division; operates maintenance and construction tools and equipment; performs a variety of maintenance tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.

Distinguishing Characteristics

This is the entry level class in the Street Maintenance Operator series. This class is distinguished from the Street Maintenance Operator II by the performance of the more routine tasks and duties assigned to workers in this series. Employees at this level are not expected to perform with the same independence of direction and judgment on matters related to established procedures and guidelines as are positions allocated to the II level. Since this class is typically used as a training class, employees may have only limited or non directly related work experience. Employees work under immediate supervision while learning job tasks.

Representative Duties

The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

1. Handle complaints and answer questions from the public.
2. Remove blight and illegal dumps from city property such as parks, right of ways, roadways, alleys, walkways, sidewalks and refuse disposal. 
3. Remove debris, shrubbery, brush, trash, tires, appliances, electronics, and miscellaneous items.
4. Make minor adjustments on service equipment; maintain tools and equipment in working order.
5. Abates graffiti.
6. Maintain logs of daily activities.
7. Assist in other areas as needed.
8. Perform related duties as required.
9. Repair and replace street surfaces, sidewalks, curbs, and gutters including back filling trenches and evacuations.
10. Perform the maintenance, repair, construction, and installation work of streets, storm drain, parking lots, street lights, traffic striping, and traffic control signs and signals.
11. Remove hazards from the roadway and other public rights of way.
12. Operate a variety of motorized equipment and specialized maintenance equipment.
13. Perform repaving, patching, overlaying, chuck hole, and crack sealing repair of asphalt.
14. Perform underground service alert locating, marking and notification.
15. Lay out and install traffic signs and pavement markings.
16. Repair and maintain storm drain lift stations.
17. Conduct traffic count surveys.
18. Maintain storm detention ponds, including cleaning, repairing, and spraying weeds.
19. Respond to hazardous materials spills.

Glenn County is recruiting an individual to fill a full time position in the Public Works Agency. The Public Works Maintenance Worker I/II/III position performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled labor in the construction, maintenance and repair of County roads, bridges, and other related structures, and in various traffic control maintenance and  repair activities of the Public Works Agency; operates a variety of construction, maintenance and transportation equipment as necessary to complete daily tasks at the Glenn County Public Works Agency. The Public Works Maintenance Worker III position is the journey-level class in the series, and is distinguished from the Public Works Maintenance Worker II by the primary responsibility to operate heavy diesel and gasoline-powered construction equipment in the maintenance of roadways, drainage systems.

What You'll Do

The Maintenance Worker position may be filled at either the I or II level based on experience. The Maintenance Worker will perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the construction, maintenance, and repair of streets, sidewalks, signs, sewers, storm drains, pump stations, traffic signal and street light equipment, traffic systems, or municipal buildings; and to do related work as required. Some of the duties of this position are as follows:

• Operate construction and maintenance equipment such as backhoes, motorgraders, boom trucks, tractors, vac-all and small sweepers, and skip loaders for a variety of construction and maintenance operations involving streets, sidewalks and gutters, sewer lines, and drainage channels.
• Use concrete cutting and braking equipment; operate a jackhammer; pour and finish concrete; construct concrete forms and perform rough carpentry work.
• Operate maintenance equipment and tools such as trucks, power tools, sewer rodder, hydraulic jet cleaner, vac-all, front loader, backhoe, compressor, sandblaster, power wench, boom truck, cc TV unit, main and auxiliary pumps, pneumatic and electro-mechanical controls, diesel power plants, and related equipment and tools.
• Assist pump mechanics to install, repair and modify pump station machinery and control.
• Paint traffic markings on streets, crosswalks, parking lots, and curbs; operate a striping truck.
• Assist in performing a variety of routine electrical maintenance and repair tasks.
• Assist in trash and debris control activities such as picking up of litter and other street maintenance activities as required or when weather does not permit sweeping operations.
• Fully utilize the computerized work systems in accordance with work flow processes.
• Work cooperatively and effectively with co-workers.

The Department: 

The Department of Public Works (DPW) constructs, maintains and improves various components of the City’s infrastructure and provides quality, cost-effective, timely services to the residents and businesses of Santa Clara. DPW is responsible for a wide variety of programs throughout the City which include implementation of solid waste and urban run-off pollution prevention programs, design, construction management, inspection and maintenance of City streets, bridges, storm drain systems, traffic signal systems, building facilities, fleet, street trees, landscaping and the closed landfill. The Mechanical Maintenance Position is in the Facilities Division of the Public Works Department.

The Position: 

The Mechanical Maintenance Worker is a journey level technical classification. This classification operates, lubricates, cleans, adjusts, and makes repairs to heating, ventilating, refrigeration, emergency generators, solar systems, and other stationary building equipment, and installs and troubleshoots electrical systems up to 480 volts. The Mechanical Maintenance Worker is distinguished from the Mechanical Maintenance Foreman/Forewoman in that the latter is a supervisory position responsible for supervising Mechanical Maintenance Workers and Utility Workers in the maintenance and repair of the mechanical equipment found in City buildings.

License/Certifications: 

• Possession of a valid Class C California driver's license is required at time of appointment and for the duration of employment.
• California State issued Forklift Certification by the end of the probationary period.

Experience with building management systems, such as Direct Digital Control (DDC), Variable Air Volume (VAV), and other related electrical control systems is desirable.

THE POSITION

The City is currently seeking General Maintenance Workers. This temporary position works with the City’s maintenance staff to perform: unskilled labor in the parks and landscape medians, street and sidewalk maintenance, street sign maintenance, and fleet building maintenance. THE OPPORTUNITY

The City of Pacifica is recruiting for a Public Works Superintendent within the Department of Public Works. Under the direction of the Field Services Manager, the incumbents will be responsible for the field services of the Public Works Department. The Department 

The Public Works department is comprised of the Maintenance, Engineering and WQCP (Water Quality Control Plant) divisions. The Maintenance Division is responsible for all of the asphalt and concrete streets within the City as well as all of the associated signalized intersections, streetlights, road signs and traffic markings.  The division also maintains the sanitary sewer/storm system which includes all of the sanitary sewer lines, all of the storm lines and catch basins, several storm water pump stations, as well as various large storm water trash capture devices throughout the City.

THE POSITION

Under close to general supervision, this hourly position is responsible for cleaning and maintaining the downtown corridor, including the removal of litter, debris, and illegal dumping. Duties are primarily driven by SeeClickFix service requests and may include other related maintenance and cleaning tasks as assigned.
 

IDEAL CANDIDATE 

The ideal candidate will have experience with outdoor maintenance work and be familiar with basic tools, equipment, and safety practices related to cleaning and debris removal in public spaces. They will take pride in keeping high-visibility areas clean and welcoming, respond promptly to service requests (such as those submitted through SeeClickFix), and interact professionally with the public and City staff. The ideal candidate will be reliable, self-motivated, and able to work independently or as part of a team, using sound judgment while following established safety procedures.

TYPICAL DUTIES (may include but are not limited to the following):

• Conduct daily cleaning and maintenance of the City’s downtown corridor, ensuring all public areas are free of litter and debris.
• Efficiently empty, clean and service all City owned trash receptacles, adhering to waste disposal and sanitation standards.
• Respond to requests for service in real time via smart device.
• Uses a variety of hand and power tools in connection with the above duties; operates light, motorized equipment, such as pick-ups, flatbeds, and dump trucks.
• Identify and report maintenance issues, safety hazards or vandalism during routine duties to appropriate City personnel.
• Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:

Experience: One year of experience in general construction or maintenance work.

Training: Equivalent to graduation from high school.

The City of Simi Valley is seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented Instrumentation Technician to join our Public Works Sanitation Division. In this vital role, you'll maintain and calibrate complex control systems, support wastewater treatment operations, and help train staff on instrumentation and SCADA technologies.

• Full-time regular position
• 9/80 schedule with every other Monday or Friday off.
• Salary range $35.80 to $45.70 hourly with Excellent Benefits.

                         MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education:

• Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by college level course work in electronics or a related field.

Experience:

• Two years of increasingly responsible experience in the maintenance, repair, fabrication and installation of instrumentation systems in a wastewater treatment system, water distribution, water processing, or other industrial process control environment.

                                  IDEAL CANDIDATE:

• Electronic and Electrical theory and circuit design, current loops, ultrasonic level sensors, and pressure transducers.
• National Electric Code, Electronic theory, principles and practices of instrumentation including current loops, ultra-sonic sensors, transducers, calibration, alignment, and configuration procedures.
• Occupational hazards, NFPA70E, standard safety practices, and applicable electrical codes.
• Operational characteristics of fiber-optic and SCADA systems.
• Office procedures, methods and equipment including computers and applicable Microsoft Office and other software applications.
• Install, modify, design, calibrate and repair electrical equipment related to electronics, instrumentation control, motor control, and telemetry.
• Read, interpret and understand technical manuals, electronic schematics, blueprints, drawings, other related electrical drawings, and diagrams.
• Design, update and fabricate new equipment, control systems, and software.
• Maintain detailed records and prepare clear and concise reports.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships; communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing with those contacted in the course of work.

Paid Leave:

• Work/Life balance with 5.2 weeks of AL (Annual Leave) per year to start (AL combines vacation and sick time). 
• Accruals increase at 5 years and 10 years of service.
• Cash out option available after one year of service.
• 11 paid holidays per year and one floating holiday per year.
