DEFINITION

Under general supervision, performs a full range of technical and public contact duties in support of the Town’s code compliance program. This position emphasizes education and prevention by serving as a resource, partner, and guide to residents, contractors, and businesses to promote voluntary compliance and community pride. Responsibilities include proactive community education and outreach, monitoring construction activity, investigating and resolving complaints, and ensuring compliance with the Town’s municipal, fire, building, housing, zoning, and related codes and regulations. When enforcement is necessary, the Coordinator supports individuals through the resolution process by clearly explaining requirements and facilitating corrective action. Work involves extensive collaboration with Town departments and the public, detailed documentation and use of case management systems, and the consistent, fair application of codes and policies. Performs related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives general supervision from the Building Official. Exercises no direct supervision over staff.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS

The Code Compliance Coordinator class series is flexibly staffed; positions are normally filled at the I level, with advancement to the II level based on demonstrated proficiency, possession of required qualifications, and management approval.

Code Compliance Coordinator I (Journey-Level):

This is the fully qualified, journey-level class in the Code Compliance series. Incumbents are responsible for performing the full range of duties related to municipal code compliance, including complaint investigation, construction site monitoring, inspections, case management, and public education. Employees in this class are expected to work independently, apply codes and regulations with discretion, and serve as educators and resources to the community. Positions at this level may receive direction or instruction as new or unusual situations arise but generally operate with a high degree of independence and responsibility.

Code Compliance Coordinator II (Advanced-Level)

This is the advanced-level class in the Code Compliance series. Positions at this level are distinguished from Code Compliance Coordinator I by the performance of more complex or sensitive compliance cases, the expectation to serve as a subject-matter resource, and potential responsibility for mentoring less experienced staff. Incumbents are expected to exercise greater judgment and may be assigned leadership in high-profile cases, advanced compliance activities, or coordination of multi-departmental enforcement efforts. Progression to this level is typically based on several years of successful performance as a Code Compliance Coordinator I, advanced training and/or certification, and demonstration of proficiency in handling the most complex cases.

Advancement to the Code Compliance Coordinator II level is typically achieved through progression from the I level and is contingent upon (i) management’s determination that the incumbent is regularly performing the full range of duties of the higher classification; (ii) demonstrated satisfactory job performance; (iii) incumbent meeting the minimum qualifications for the higher classification; and (iv) management approval for advancement to Code Compliance Coordinator II.

Collaboration & Communication

• Serve as an educator, resource, and ally to residents, contractors, and business owners by explaining the purpose and intent of Town codes and community standards.
• Provide responsive customer service by answering questions, explaining processes, and guiding residents and contractors through permit and compliance requirements.
• Prepare and maintain educational and process materials like notices, letters, handouts, and web based information.

Investigations & Inspections

• Receive, record, and investigate complaints related to municipal, fire, building, housing, and zoning codes.
• Monitor residential and commercial construction sites to ensure compliance with permits and conditions of approval, safety standards, and Town regulations.
• Proactively identify and address issues related to construction completion timelines, site maintenance, safety hazards, or other potential violations.
• Conduct field inspections, research ownership records, review prior complaints, and determine whether violations have occurred.

Compliance & Resolution

• Promote voluntary compliance through education, prevention, and proactive communication.
• Partner with planning, building, engineering, police, public works, and legal staff to resolve compliance matters and ensure consistent application of codes.
• Guide individuals who are out of compliance through the resolution process, ensuring they understand what is required and how to achieve compliance.
• Prepare and issue notices of violation, citations, and related correspondence in accordance with applicable laws and ordinances, while maintaining a solution-oriented approach.
• Coordinate and monitor compliance and abatement activities, including site visits, correspondence, and follow-up inspections.

Documentation & Technology

• Maintain accurate case files, inspection notes, and compliance records using the Town’s land use permit tracking software.
• Input inspection results, notices, and case updates into databases to ensure timely tracking and resolution.
• Prepare clear, professional reports, memoranda, correspondence, and hearing documentation.
• Prepare and present compliance cases at hearings; send required notifications; testify and provide supporting evidence.
• Attend and document hearings, meetings, and related proceedings

SUMMER AQUATIC STAFF POSITIONS

The Town of Danville strives to provide an aquatic environment that is safe, instructive and fun through recreational and lap swim, special events, the Learn to Swim program, Junior Lifeguard program and Lifeguard training classes.

 

PROGRAM LEADER (SWIM INSTRUCTOR/LIFEGUARD)

Salary Range: $17.37 to $23.15/hour

 

QUALIFICATIONS  

Applicants must be at least 15 years of age. Required certifications to perform lifeguard responsibilities:  American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid (Lifeguard). 

Aquatics staff generally work 3–5 hours per day and average 15–20 hours per week, with a maximum of up to 37.5 hours. Shifts can take place in the morning, afternoon, or evening at either San Ramon Valley High School or Monte Vista. Staff schedules and locations are coordinated based on program needs, so assignments may vary throughout the season. Staff may apply as a swim instructor and begin the onboarding process before completing a lifeguard certification, but priority hiring will be given to applicants with completed certifications. 

 

SUPERVISION 
Under the general supervision of the Pool Managers, Program Coordinator and Program Supervisor, the Swim Instructor/Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring aquatic safety and providing instruction for pool patrons.  Swim Instructors/Lifeguards must enjoy working with children and the general public, be patient, reliable and have lots of energy.  

 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES 
Job duties include lifeguarding, swim lesson instruction, leading pool programming, mandatory staff training, pulling tarps, required daily fitness, and administrative duties. Weekend shifts may be available on a case-by-case bases depending upon programmatic needs.  Also:

Senior Guards must have at least two years of lifeguard/swim instructor or equivalent qualifying experience; leadership experience is highly desired.

SALARY:  Step A ($120,598.79) to Step E ($146,552.90) annually. Officers can earn up to an additional 27.5% above the base salary through qualifying incentives, such as specialty pay (5%), evening differential (5%), bilingual pay (5%), Master Officer pay (2.5%), and Master's degree incentive (10%). This results in potential annual compensation of approximately $153,763 at Step A to approximately $186,851 at Step E. 

Program Assistant: Adults and Seniors

Salary Range: $18.52 - $30.68/hour, depending on experience.

 

DEFINITION

Assists in the planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of programs, events, and services in a designated area of Recreation Arts and Community Services. Provides highly organized and responsible administrative and programmatic support to the Program Coordinator, including assistance with internal programs, volunteer coordination, and preparation of the quarterly activity guide, etc. Recommends and coordinates the purchase of program supplies and equipment. Helps foster and maintain positive relationships within the community to enhance program offerings and engagement.

• This is a part-time, temporary, at-will, non-benefited position.
• Flexible schedule of 15-20 hours per week, including some evenings and weekends; not-to-exceed 950 hours per calendar year.
• This position is Primarily located at the Danville Senior Center with some responsibilities at various location around Town depending on program needs.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

Essential duties are inclusive of, but not limited to, the following:

• Assist in the planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of innovative programs, events, and services for older adults.
• Provide administrative and programmatic support to the Program Coordinator and Supervisor, including internal events, volunteer programs, and special initiatives such as Buzz Sessions.

• Assist with public communications and manage the Seniors' Inbox.

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicant must be at least 18 years old.  Receive satisfactory results from a background investigation and fingerprinting. Provide written proof of a negative TB test before the appointment.

Knowledge of:

• Recreational programs, developmentally appropriate group activities, and applicable health and safety regulations.
• Record keeping practices and procedures; office practices, procedures, and equipment.

Ability to:

• Pay attention to detail and accuracy within events and programming.
• Understand and follow oral and written directions; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and members of the public.
• Build relationships and compose correspondence with outside vendors for internal programming and volunteering.
• Provide information to the public in person, by telephone, or through written correspondence where judgment, knowledge, and interpretive skills may be required.
• Effectively utilize Microsoft Office Suite.
• Must be able to provide a TB test result within the last four years, or obtain a new record.

 

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education:

Graduation from high school or equivalent is required, with college-level coursework completed in Recreation, Human Development, Education, or a related field preferred. 

Experience:

Background in municipal parks and recreation and/or Adult and Senior Services is desirable.  Supervision of part-time and/or volunteer personnel is highly desirable. Customer service experience required. 

 

LICENSE(S) AND CERTIFICATION(S)

Possession of a valid California State Driver's License, or a license in another state with the ability to obtain a California license within 30 days of hire.  First Aid and CPR/AED certification is required but may be obtained during the first 90 days of employment.

THE POSITION

Under general supervision of a Police Sergeant, the Reserve Police Officer is a sworn position assigned to field operations to patrol for the prevention and detection of crime and enforcement of laws and regulations within the philosophy of community oriented policing.  Incumbents are normally expected to solve most work problems independently and to refer to supervisory personnel only those matters which involve policy decisions, technical questions and unusual problems at the entry level and make recommendations at the advanced level.

THE POSITION

Under general supervision, the Water Resources Source Control Inspector performs inspections and sampling of industrial, commercial, and residential sources of discharge to the wastewater and storm water systems to ensure compliance with Federal, State, and local regulations; inspects hazardous and toxic materials storage areas; reviews building plans for compliance with building code regulations and to ensure discharger compliance with all applicable regulators; conducts public outreach activities; and performs other duties as assigned. Persons assigned to this classification perform or assist in performing all functions associated with the City’s Pretreatment, Pollution Prevention, and Stormwater programs.

 

Examples of duties include:

• Inspects wastewater discharge sources, site runoff, and hazardous materials facilities
• Collects and analyzes samples
• Operates and maintains sampling equipment
• Conducts educational outreach events and presentations
• Reviews plans for compliance with regulations
• Maintains records and prepares correction and enforcement orders
• Gathers evidence for administrative and legal action
